So, as the title says, I'll be running a series of short, welcoming introductory D&D games for newer players. While I love epic, years-long campaigns, these adventures—lasting one or two sessions each—will give newer players a chance to get their feet wet and try out the game.
Games will be limited to a maximum of four players, and each adventure will be open to a new set of players.
When: Thursdays at 7:00 PM EST, lasting about three or four hours. I expect to run the first session on Thursday, June 21. (I'm eager to get started, but I want to leave a little time for interested parties to coordinate the necessary details.)
Where: Online using Roll20 and some sort of video and voice chat (possibly the one integrated into Roll20). If you haven't used Roll20 before, let me assure you that it's very, very easy to use.
Experience required: None! I'm specifically hoping to cater to newer players. That said, if you've rolled a few crits in your day, that doesn't disqualify you ... but preference will be given to thsoe with less experience.
Style: Casual, friendly, and fun. Everyone has different tastes, so there's no point in setting too many requirements up front.
About me: I've been gaming for ... well, a long time! I've experimented with a several versions of D&D, as well as running long campaigns with other RPG systems. Through all that, I'm loving D&D 5e, which I think is fantastic for new players but also deeply satisfying for many people who've been gaming for decades.
Interested? Questions? Post a reply or send me a private message letting me know a little about yourself, and we can coordinate further details.
Game: D&D 5e, short adventures lasting one to two sessions Group type: Online (using Roll20 and a voice/video chat tool) Experience:Mine—veteran DM; Yours—little to none! Location/Timezone: EST Schedule: Thursdays, starting at 7 PM and running for three or four hours. First session will probably be Thursday, June 21. Roles sought: Players, especially newer players interested in trying D&D 5e Game style: Casual, friendly, and fun
(A note on "welcoming" games: I'm dedicated to providing a positive experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, ability, appearance, race or ethnicity, or religion. Participants asked to stop any problematic behavior are expected to comply immediately.)
UPDATE (3 July 2018): Hi everyone. I've run a couple of sessions in this series, and they went quite well! I'm still gathering names of interested people and scheduling games as fast as I can. There's a lot of interest, which is fantastic! Of course, scheduling is a challenge, so I am considering looking for a separate time slot (other than the originally proposed Thursdays at 7:00 PM EST). When different time slots open up, I'll reach out to you in the order in which I've heard from you to see if they work. If a time I propose doesn't work, don't worry. You'll still be on the list for the next session.
Like many other new fans of DnD, I became enthralled with the game after watching Critical Role. Despite wanting to play myself, my nerves often got in the way. Until now! I want to start playing to get a feel for the fun and adventure and to get out of my shell a bit. I like the aspect of role-playing and immersing myself in these fantasy worlds. I'm looking to spread my wings and learn the game for my many future adventures to come.
Like you, I also like the idea of long-term epic campaigns full of fun characters, but they can wait until I get a bit of experience!
Hello, I played a few games, but most of them didn't even got of the paper, I'm eager to face new challengers as a old MMORPG player, want to come to this new world of D&D.
Game: D&D 5e Group preferred: Online Experience: New Location/Timezone: UTC - 3. São Paulo Availability: Just tell me the day before and it is ok; Preferred role: Player Game style: I really enjoy playing mage and healing classes, I've been playing mmorpg since ragnarok online, and I still play some new MMORPGs, but I would like to start in the world of D&D.
i would love to join but dont really have much free time till September, if you are still running new games then please let me know, i have played 4 four hour setions before the group started to stop turning up, it was on roll20 but was a year or so ago.
I'm in the UK but am a night sort of guy so 7 EST would work for me.
PM me if you have available slot open, I'm older person but willing to learn. First session with another group will be June 10th.
Game: D&D 5e, short adventures lasting one to two sessions - good with this Group type: Online (using Roll20 and a voice/video chat tool) Fine -have account Experience:New Player Location/Timezone: PST Schedule: Open for the times you put down Roles sought: Player Game style: Casual, friendly, and fun
Hey, I'd love to join. I just joined roll20 a little over a week ago and I dont really have any experience playing the game myself....there just isnt enough interest in it in the rural area I live in. I'd love to be able to start with you, since posting an app on roll20 seems almost like a shot in the dark with how many applications appear when someone is looking for 1 players. It's crazy haha. I've been watching critical role and I've done a few one shots, but that's about it.
Hello, i would love to join one of your introductory games. I have never played the game but I am eager to learn. I bought myself the Players Handbook and read it from cover to cover. As most people here I got introduced to D&D by watching various streams and shows. I have been trying to find a group for quite some time and what you present here sounds too perfect.
I haven't played d&d before, but i have read a lot of wikis and all of my friends are telling me to try a campaign. I have created a few characters just out of curiosity, and I would love to take part in a short campaign to get a handle on the mechanics. I'm in the PST time zone, so I will be on a slightly different time, but I can still participate.
I've played before but still consider myself pretty new to the game. I'm also in the Eastern timezone and Thursdays are open for me (until 10pm when Critical Role begins). I've played DND Adventurer's League games before at cons and had a blast. Feel free to PM me!
I'd be interested in that time frame, though as several others have said I like to watch Crit Role at 10:00 PM EST so 7-10ish is a good window.
I played a good bit, years ago, but have not played for almost 20 years and obviously have never played 5e. I've prepared several characters one of whom could fill a needed role in just about any group. Aasimar Paladin, Gnomish Wizard, Tiefling Sorcerer, 1/2 Elf Cleric, Aarakocra Ranger, and Minotar Barbarian are currently ready to go.
I have a Roll20 acct. and would be happy to use that platform. Please DM me if you think I might fit into the group. Thanks.
Thanks to everyone who’s posted a reply or messaged me. Sessions are coming together, which is great. And I’ll keep planning more and more as interested players show up!
I believe I’ve responded to everyone who expressed interest, and I’m looking forward to our upcoming adventures. If you haven’t received a private message from me, do let me know! We’ll see what dark dungeon the messenger got lost in …
I'm completely new to DnD (other than watching streams like Critical Role). I'm from England but pretty flexible with times as I'm usually up pretty late anyway. I'd love to get into the game if you're still looking for people!

Hey 40below,
Thanks for even posting this! I'm looking to get my feet wet again, and it was just so cool to see a veteran who was down to do something like this! I may not be able to join this one, but it restored my faith in humanity, and for that I thank you!
Hello I'm new to D&D and super interested in it, i've watched friends play and online series but never played myself. Been trying to find a game to play the last few days and have got a couple character ideas/sheets ready to go on D&D beyond.

Any room for one more person that is new but would like to learn to play D&D?
I'm completely new to DnD (other than watching streams like Critical Role). I'm from England but pretty flexible with times as I'm usually up pretty late anyway. I'd love to get into the game if you're still looking for people!
I’d definitely be interested! I have no idea what I’m doing and would be thrilled to have a patient, low-key game to teach me the ropes.
Are you looking for characters to already be created? I can’t tell if people usually pre-create of if they collaborate on their characters.
Im new d&d player as well and I'm looking for a campaign to start my adventure

Hi there! I'd be interesting in getting into one of these. Played DnD well over a decade ago and would love to get back into it.
