I've been playing DnD for some time, and have finally decided I am ready to try and DM. I have built a lvl 4 one shot, and I'm looking for a group of experienced and patient players willing to put me through the wringer as a new DM.
Here is the campaign page, I am looking for 4 players if anybody is interested in a 3-4 hour chunk of play on a weekend.
The world is plagued with dragons, necromancers, goblins, monsters, and worst of all, would-be adventuring heroes. Seems to you, if these adventurers would just keep their noses out of mystical business, many of the horrors that have befallen your little village could have been avoided. If only more people could be content with the simple pleasures. A pint of ale, some good music, that's all you need. Why these hot headed adventurers feel the need to swing a sword at everything they see is beyond you, and your friends. That's why you've made a point of meeting every week at the tavern, and drinking away the woes of this mad, mad world.
Is it the hot headed nature of your adventuring peers that perturbs you so, or is it the realization that they have all far surpassed your capabilities? Just because the most talented people in the world all seem to be 10 years younger than you, doesn't mean you couldn't have done the same thing if you had just felt like it, doesn't it? The distinction does seem a bit blurry, but one thing is certain, you and your friends are no match for any of the monsters you've heard such extravagant tales about. You all hold menial jobs, if that, and even still struggle to be respected in your fields, facing ridicule from your own co-workers.
Really, it doesn't matter to you. As long as you can end each week in good company, and with good drink, this life is all the fulfilment you need. Better to wallow in self pity, than to have your flesh burned off by a dragon. You know everyone in the local tavern, many scoff at your recurring presence, but the bar-maids are kind enough, at least when you have the coin to tip them. Tonight, you all meet up at the end of the day to eat, drink, and be merry, but a table of mysterious figures in the corner has you uneasy. Yours is a small little hamlet, and visitors are entirely uncommon, especially visitors with such finely crafted garbs and gear. You know almost every face that walks your streets, but today you see 4 unfamiliar faces, cloaked in the shadows.
*All characters should be built at level 4 - point buy for abilities. You may pick any background that is not a position of privilege, but know that you are all essentially bums, or just one step above a bum. No races should be picked that you would not expect to find in a backwater tavern of a small village, so no fairies, no genasi, etc. If you pick "soldier" as a background, it means you were a soldier, but were so bad at it that you were dishonorably released from military service. If you were a scholar, you were not a very good one, and none of your various studies have garnered any recognition. If you are a monk, you are the monk that the rest of the monks send out to dig the latrines. If you are a druid, the rest of your circle regularly has you cleaning up after the livestock. Perhaps a drunken town brawler who just couldn't cut it as a gladiator in the big city. etc. etc. Our story begins on 4 remarkably unremarkable individuals.*
I had an idea for a possible character for that setting, likely one of the party(though I doubt I'd play them myself). They'd be an Abjuration Wizard with a cautious nature. I picture this character being the sort of individual who would be against taking most risks at all, hence why they'd be in the state they're in now and why they dedicated themselves to Abjuration magic
