Hey everyone! I'm a somewhat experienced DM with a new D&D 5e campaign based around a team of new recruits to the local forestry service. The Lifesbreath Forest covers over half the continent of Henrell and though it is a sacred piece of land for the kingdom, it’s also a place of danger and mishaps. On this adventure, you can expect a lot of exploring the forest, receiving unusual tasks from your supervisors, and um, is it just me or is there something weird going on around here? Someone check their wildlife guide to see if those things are supposed to have four arms…
For years, the LFS has been losing staff members, from waves of whole teams quitting to a few unfortunate and strange accidents. Now, they’re desperate for anyone who will join the staff, whether you’re a skilled outdoorsman, a talented scholar of the Forest, or just looking to spend your days earning reliable coin somewhere quiet. Whatever brings you to the LFS, our adventure will begin at the completion of basic training, with everyone at level three. Your first task as a team will be to hike to your assigned post, Q2HQ, the base camp of the most diverse and, well, dangerous section of Lifesbreath.
Some mechanics: I like to play mostly RAW though I’m always down to bend things as we need to make things work in a way we’re all having fun with. I’m okay with any official published source material (though if I don’t have a copy, I ask that you send me the details of what you’re using), for races I’d prefer to stick to the more common ones (no animal-based races), all classes are allowed, and you can either use standard array for abilities or we can do roll 4d6 drop one together on discord.
Leveling will be based on milestones as I see fit, with an expectation that this will run for about 8-10 sessions, and hence not likely pass level 10. Hitpoints can be rolled or standard, we’ll more or less ignore encumbrance, standard equipment for each class plus a few LFS basics like uniforms.
I love an emphasis on character backstory and feeling like characters are an integral part of the plot. Looking for players that will be willing to write at least a paragraph or two of backstory as this won’t just be dungeon crawling. Blended mix of exploration, NPC interactions, and combat, but given that this LFS unit will be working together in a remote area, I’d like to help everyone figure out at least a little bit about their intra-party dynamics from their few weeks of pre-campaign basic training.
Games will be played using discord for voice and AboveVTT from D&D Beyond for maps and rolling. I ask that you have a mic that can decently block out background noise and/or somewhere quiet to play, and a stable wifi connection. Please no timezones more than 3 hours off EDT for scheduling purposes. Looking for players that will commit to meeting for sessions as decided on as a group.
My games are a safe space for queer and neurodivergent people and if that's not okay with you, then you need not apply.
ONE OF FOUR PLAYER SLOTS ARE OPEN
Game time TBD, either Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday from 6-9pm EDT as schedules allow. Please do not respond if you cannot make any of these times.
We can arrange a session zero once players are all gathered!
Your Prior Adventuring Experience: Four years worth of short campaigns and the same amount of time researching dnd and listening to podcasts for knowledge (It's my special interest)
What Type of Gameplay You’re Looking For: A bit more roleplay then combat but I'm very adaptive!
Your Prior Adventuring Experience: Only a few one-shots but I'm good at studying up on things and I've been rping and crping for multiple years now
What Type of Gameplay You’re Looking For: A mix of everything, roleplaying and combat are so much fun for me, but exploring a world is also just perfect
Not sure if you're still LFP but I have a character idea that might be a good fit and love the sound of this campaign, so I thought I'd throw my hat in the ring.
Your Name: Stevie
Your Prior Adventuring Experience: About 2 years playing a mix of casters and melee characters
What Type of Gameplay You’re Looking For: I have a lot of fun with RP but also love a bit of combat. I like leaning into my character's strengths, flaws, and quirks and I'm adaptable to the tone of the world/NPCs that the DM sets (so I can do funny, serious, or anything in between to suit the story).
Name: Hos (Nickname) Prior Experience: Been playing for just about 2 years Ideal Gameplay: I don't care Time Zone: PST Discord: Redolimpus#2090 Would love to join if I could!
Your Prior Adventuring Experience: I've been playing 5e for about 5 or 6 years and I've played most of the character classes at least once. I've also been DM for a few oneshots and I'm currently halfway through running a long form campaign for my friends. I'm hoping to find a new game to join as I'm itching to be a player again.
What Type of Gameplay You’re Looking For: Looking for a balanced game of combat/RP/exploration. I don't think every session must have combat, but most should have at least one in my opinion. I also have a character built that I've been hoping to play in a game for a while and I'm not sure if he qualifies as one of the more common races in your world. He's an earth genasi pact of the genie warlock who was born into a family of dwarves, so he's looks like a dwarf but slightly taller and he has green flecked skin and his shoulders are rocky with small green stones. Dirt and stones naturally grow in his dark brown beard and he pulls theses stones from his beard to use with his trusty sling (reflavoring eldritch blast as him slinging these magical stones). He's a Pact of the Chain warlock as well and I'm hoping to bend the rules slightly and use a Dust Mephit as his familiar (similar power level to officially provided options but fits the theme way better).
Your Time Zone: EST (I can be available for any of the proposed time slots)
