Game: D&D 5e Group type: Foundry VTT with Discord for communication Experience: New and experienced players are welcome Location/Timezone: Florida (US Eastern) Schedule: Sunday afternoons or evenings beginning on June 8th., 3-4 hours per session Roles sought: 4-5 Players
You’re invited to play a scary game.
Curse of Strahd seeks heroes of all sorts and pits them against their greatest nightmares. A balance of character classes is helpful, since the adventurers will face a variety of challenges.
What to Expect in This Gothic Horror Adventure: Prepare to be scared. Think about how your character reacts to fright and how that adds to the creepy atmosphere of the adventure. True courage is shown by those who face their fears. Not everyone escapes a horror story unscathed, and the scars gained are part of what makes the horror meaningful.
Combat in CoS: Combat may be infrequent, but it can be deadly. Be prepared that should your character perish, you can still rejoin the campaign and have fun playing another character.
DM Philosophy: As a DM, my primary goal is to run a game that is fun, fair, and tailored for the players. Every player will contribute to the ongoing story and have moments to shine. From those expressing interest, I will be striving to assemble a party that is diverse, balanced, and comprised of members with compatible play styles to ensure a cohesive and enjoyable experience for everyone.
Session Zero: We’ll begin with a session zero to establish hard and soft limits, share house rules, and ensure the entire group agrees on content and boundaries. This will help us create a film-like rating and content warning for the story we’re building.
Immersion and Roleplay:
D&D Beyond Master Tier Subscription: Access to additional character creation options, homebrew, encounters, and shared content including source books.
Cloud-hosted Foundry VTT: High-end dedicated server for reliability.
Professional Voices: Over 100 professional voices rendered real-time in Discord using ElevenLabs.io for NPCs.
Ambient Music: Syrinscape for ambient music and sound effects.
NPC Actors: Brought to life using OpenAI ChatGPT-4o assistants.
Patreon sponsor of DM Andy, James’ RPG art, MrPrimate, and Pyram King for expanded content, rich battle maps, and Foundry integration with DnD Beyond.
Personal Roleplay Experience: My journey began with DMing Advanced Dungeons and Dragons and included designing LARPs in creepy abandoned schools in Maine. After recently completing an 18-month CoS campaign as a DM for six players and having played through CoS as a player, I’m excited to offer another round.
Timing and Flexibility: I prefer Sunday afternoons or evenings, EDT.
Inclusion: I welcome all players, ages 20 and older. If there’s anything I can do to make the world setting more inclusive for you, let me know through a private message (PM), or in our session zero.
If Interested, Reply to Post (or PM me) With: Are you available Sunday afternoons, evenings, or both? What do you hope to get out of the campaign, and what player type are you (Actor, Explorer, Instigator, Power Gamer, Slayer, Storyteller, Thinker, Watcher)? Do you have a favorite race or class to play? What are your feelings on intra-party conflict? Have you watched Critical Role? If so, what are your thoughts? Other actual play video series/podcasts? What’s your favorite and least favorite thing about tabletop RPGs? Is there anything else you’d like to share or think I should know?
There are no right or wrong answers here; I'm purely looking at player compatibility in terms of play style, expectations, and availability.
Ah, my dear future denizens of the night, as your humble master of the macabre and chronicler of cursed tales, I take great delight in sharing the most intriguing communiqués that have crossed my shadow-draped desk. In less than a sun’s passage through the gloomy Barovian skies, your responses have flickered like candles in the oppressive darkness, casting light on souls brave enough to face the haunting echoes of Count Strahd von Zarovich.
To those spirited individuals who have already shared their visions and vanities, know that your words have been received with the rapt attention they duly deserve. Your tales of bravery, your confessed fears, your preferred haunts and roles within our impending drama have been as varied and vibrant as the legends of old.
And yet, the carriage remains at the gate, horses pawing at the fog-laden ground, waiting to bear a few more intrepid souls to Castle Ravenloft. Should you dare to join this grand, gothic adventure, let your voice be heard before the clock strikes the final hour on the fifth day. We seek only the most daring to join our quest—a quest not for the faint of heart, but for those who revel in the shadows and dance on the edge of terror.
As the quill continues to dance across parchment, chronicling the dread saga of our dear Count, I invite you, dear viewer, to behold a vision most dreadful and enlightening: "Curse of Strahd: Inside the Mind of Evil." Let this visage of our villain, captured in his most solitary and somber moments, inspire your own journey into the heart of darkness.
Bear witness to the torment and tyranny that festers within the walls of Ravenloft, and ask yourself—do you possess the courage to face what lies within? The stage is set, the players nearly gathered, and the tale almost ready to unfold. Will you be amongst those who dare to tread the cobwebbed corridors of fate?
I am interested in joining if you still have the space. In response to your questions:
Are you available Sunday afternoons, evenings, or both?
Both
What do you hope to get out of the campaign, and what player type are you (Actor, Explorer, Instigator, Power Gamer, Slayer, Storyteller, Thinker, Watcher)?
Honestly, I had to look these up to know what you meant. I think I am naturally a power gamer/storyteller? That said, I try to play into what my character would do. For example, I once played a barbarian whose flaw was having 0 patience, so I was very much an instigator in that setting.
Do you have a favorite race or class to play?
Half-elf ranger
What are your feelings on intra-party conflict?
I'm fine with it, as long as it stays in game.
Have you watched Critical Role? If so, what are your thoughts? Other actual play video series/podcasts?
I'm just finishing campaign 1 of Critical Role now. (Started watching after finishing the Legend of Vox Machina animated show). I enjoy it. I don't think I have the ability to do that level of voice acting/RP yet.
What’s your favorite and least favorite thing about tabletop RPGs?
I love RPGs for the escapism. TTRPGs are more flexible and immersive than video games. There is much more freedom of expression.
I dislike... The cost? I don't know. I'm still relatively new to the game, and I haven't found a downside yet aside from the hit to my wallet.
Is there anything else you’d like to share or think I should know?
I have been playing on and off for about 2 years now. I have been a DM for a loca game for the last year. I'm mainly looking for a way to get to play myself and to learn about the online resources for DnD.
Looking for one more player, party preferences are leaning towards Sunday night ET.

Players are expected to roleplay in character -- but are not expected to be professional voice actors, i.e. if you play a dwarf, don't feel as though you have to pull off a dwarven accent :)
