Are you going to Midwest Game fest this weekend? My wife and I are taking advantage of that as our first time to play without kids involved. It might help you network for future games, too.
You might also poke around Pawn and Pint near downtown/river market.
I've never been, but it looks like they have Open Play D&D on Saturdays. If my memory is correct it costs a few bucks, but maybe you'll meet some folks there for a regular (free / cost of snacks) game.

Yeah. Bought tickets for Saturday and signed up for one game. A DND AL game in the afternoon. Saw a game in the morning but no one else has signed up yet and I don’t want me and my wife to be the only two players so I’m waiting.
I'm in PV, for what it's worth. Not exactly Independence, but I know a lot of adults (is that "adults"?) who play D&D. I'm running an IRL game at the moment, and we're full, and we have a once--in-a-while game that gathers when the DM can make it (he works in the restaurant business). We actually have a lot of players through our church (it's a UU church, if that means anything to you, super liberal, you've been warned :) ) in Lenexa. Also, a lot of board game players. But, too, I play a lot on here. Good to meet you. Also, yes, scheduling's hard, eh?

My wife and I are looking for a group to play with in person within the Kansas City area.
Our schedule sucks for trying to plan things. You’ve been warned. We’re both new to D&D. Her more so as I play PbP here.

Independence. I know there’s a game shop on the square, but they seem Magic heavy over DND.
