So I figured I would give this a try. I've searched online, found a few Discord servers, and was immediately turned off by them, haha. Let me give a little rundown about me and what I'm looking for. My name is John, I'm in my 30s. I've kind have always been interested in D&D (had a few of the books since I was a kid), but I did get a real chance to play until a few months ago. I've only been in a handful of sessions and I've DMed once. But while I haven't played D&D a lot, I used to play a lot of World of Darkness when I was in college and I've written in several forum RPs for 10+ years. I have a fairly creative mind, I love creating stories, and I enjoy RPing. But let me continue before this ends up sounding like a really bad dating service video, haha.
So recently I got into D&D. However my work schedule altered to a point where the group I was playing with online couldn't accommodate me. I don't blame them. Our schedules, time zones, and personal lives all just kind of fell out of sync. It saddens me that I will have to leave them, but I really don't want that to keep me from my hobby either. With all that being said, let me toss up a little breakdown of what I'm looking for and my skillz (sorry. I not trying to sound cool. but if you think the z is cool, then I totally am).
Game: D&D 5e
Group preferred: Online (Roll20 / Discord combo is what I'm used to), preferably a couple times a month.
Experience: Novice player, one time DM
Location/Timezone: PST
Availability: Saturdays (after 7pm PST), Sundays (all day), and Mondays (morning and afternoon)
Preferred role: Player, but once I get used to a group I can try DMing
Game style: I'll be honest, I tend to be that quiet guy in the group. I'll like to roll dice, I don't mind some light roleplaying (still new to the trying out character voices). But while I’m a quiet person I am usually full of ideas and more than happy to talk about things outside of game and plot things for the future. And the more I’m used to you, I promise, the more talkative and relaxed I am.
What I’ve Played Before: Dragonborn Fighter, Human Paladin (Fighter was my favorite class so far)
What I’m Looking For: I’m just looking for a group of casual players who want the have fun. I would actually prefer a group comprised of mainly older players (25 and up). I don’t have anything against younger players (I honestly wish I started when I was younger), but I just feel like I would be some weird old guy in a group of tweens, ya know? I’m an adult, I’m in my 30s, I have a full-time job, I have a family, so being around like-minded people just makes me more comfortable. But that’s just me. And, admittedly, I'm not super interested in PBP, only because I already do that on other forums. Just looking for the D&D chat experience, I guess, haha.
Anyways, that’s all I really have about myself. If anyone is interested, please let me know. I feel like I found something really fun to get into and now that I finally have the chance to do it, I’d really like to pursue it further.
And, if it helps, I’m a bit of an amateur artist and I like to sketch characters and party members, haha. I’m not the best, but I do have examples of my work below:
Just going to throw this out there, I'm brand new to D&D, but I have a background of playing RPG's and being a general nerd. I'm also fairly quiet for the first while - I'm a shy lad! But once I get used to the group its hard to imagine that I'm shy.
Anyways, I'm married, I'm 31, and the days you listed off I think I could make work. Only catch is please show me the ropes!! I've watched Critical Role for awhile, and because of the advertising that they do during their shows, I learned of this site and thusly, here I am!
If your interested in grouping up, and hopefully more people respond on here, I would love to start up a campaign. I'm quite eager to learn how to play and to start exploring the D&D world
I would definitely be interested in starting up with a new group. It seems like we both have similar things in a game that we are looking for.
I'm fairly new to D&D having started playing about a year ago. I've run LMoP and a bit of ToA for my family, and have played a few sessions of AL at my local store. The family game is fun but is run for my kids and I didn't really get what I wanted out of AL, mainly a good story. If needed, I would be willing to DM, but I have no experience in playing on Roll 20.
The weekend times work for me, so if this thread gets any more traction please contact me, I'd love to join something from the start.
Sure! This is sounding pretty good already. Happy to hear from others! Roll 20 is actually pretty easy to use, Metsut. The hardest part will mainly be inputting the character sheets onto the site but once you do that, it's just a matter of clicking and the site automatically rolls for you. I've only been playing a few months but I've figured a good amount out.
Hey guys, just putting it out there that I'd be willing to DM. Even though I don't have a lot of experience with Roll 20 or Discord, and even though I'm coming back to the game after a looooong hiatus (my only experience of D&D is in 4e, but I'm itching to try out some 5e) I'm looking to get back in. A group this size (about 3-4 players) would probably be ideal for me, and the weekend times are also good. I can run either a prebuilt adventure or a homebrew one, although it's probably better to go with the prebuilt since I'm still trying to figure stuff out. If you guys are interested, PM me and we can hash out the details, hopefully get this thing started within the next two weekends :-)
