Game: D&D 5e Group preferred: Online Experience: Veteran Timezone: EST/EDT Availability: Saturday nights, or every other Friday night. Availability begins at 8 pm EST/EDT, and ends around 12 am. Preferred role: Player Game style: I prefer games with a healthy mix of roleplaying and character development, open to either a good mix of roleplay and combat (50/50) or roleplay-heavy games. I'd rather stay away from straight combat/hack-and-slash games.
Hey everyone! As my title suggests, I'm a longtime forever DM. I've tried my hand at being a player a few times here and there, but those groups never seemed to work out. In the interest of full disclosure, since I'm sure you might be wondering what means, twice, the DM had to end the campaign because they no longer had the time/energy to continue running it, and once it was simply a poor fit where players/characters clashed and I disagreed with how the DM handled (or, perhaps more accurately didn't handle) the issues that arose from it, leaving me feeling uncomfortable remaining in that group. That said, I'm really hoping to get another shot at being a player, because I absolutely adore creating characters and seeing them come to life and find their place in a story, so I'd love to get another chance at actually being able to play one of them long-term.
The good news is, as a long-running DM, I do believe I know the rules quite well (at least 5e 2014 rules. I'm still working on getting the 2024 rules all the way down if you use those, but then again, who isn't, right?) I also have access to a wide array of books and resources on here, as well as a subscription that allows for content sharing, so I'm happy to share those with the group as well! Despite occasionally knowing more than a typical player might, I'm always careful to avoid backseat DMing, and I despise metagaming, so you can be assured that I'll stay as far away from that as I can. Basically, I want a chance to be just a player, so I'm perfectly happy to let you maintain control of the group as you see fit. The only thing I ask is that there's some effort on the DM's part to make sure all players are comfortable in the group, and to prevent any out-of-character conflict. Groups that use safety tools (consent checklists, social contracts, etc.) are definitely a plus for me, although I understand it isn't that common of a thing among more casual groups. As long as the DM is making an effort toward making all the players feel safe in the game, I'm happy. I also prefer groups where the players/DM don't go too crazy as far as homebrewing mechanics/classes/races. I understand how such things are fun, and I'm definitely fine with a few house rules or tweaking some races/classes here and there, but my experience with heavy homebrew is that it often unbalances the game in ways that make it less fun, so I'm someone who prefers to stick at least somewhat close to the rules as written/intended. And while I totally understand and respect the grind of professional DMing, I'm currently not looking to participate in a paid game- I'd rather play with a DM who is running just for the fun of it than one who views it as a job! Paid DMing shifts the dynamic from being (at least potential) friends to being a service provider/client, and I'd prefer the former atmosphere.
Now, I know that my availability, listed above, is a bit slim. Sadly, I work a shift job which means I have a variable schedule, and those are the only times I have blocked out that I know I can't be scheduled to work (at least without my boss asking me for permission prior to scheduling me.) I'm available every Saturday, but I currently run another campaign every other Friday, hence why I'm only available every other week there (which week is our usual "on week" isn't super important since I can shift them a bit if necessary, which we already currently do if players aren't available for some sessions.) 8 pm est/edt is the earliest that I know I'll be available. Technically, I should be available starting at 7:30 most of the time (on both days of the week!) but occasionally I have to stay at work a little late for various reasons, so if the session starts at 7:30 I run the risk of being late occasionally, hence why 8 pm was listed to give a bit of a buffer (unless occasional lateness doesn't bother you, I guess.) Also, I'd prefer to finish up by midnight/12 am est/edt, because I do sometimes have to be at work as early as 7 am the next morning, and while I can handle some sleep deprivation, I do have limits.
For those wondering about what kind of characters I play, well, the answer is almost any. As long as I get a decent chance to roleplay them and develop their character, I'm happy. Examples of past characters, if you're interested, include a rogue who pretended to be a ranger because it was more respectable, an artificer Knight of Solamnia on a quest to find her missing mentor (with her trusty little metal fox companion by her side, of course!), and a changeling trickery domain cleric/archfey warlock who traveled the world using a mix of deception and magic to spread the fey chaos of her patron and his deity of choice. Which is to say, a very wide range of whatever seems fun while fitting whatever role the group needs them to.
Anyhow, I think all of that tells you a fair bit about me as a player. So if any of you out there have a group during my availability that needs another player, or are interested in starting a new group during those times, I'd love to chat and see if it would be a good fit for both of us! I'll look forward to hearing from you!
I let this close because I was talking with a DM about a possible campaign, but it didn’t work out, so I’m opening it up again in case anyone else is looking for a player for their group and thinks I might be a good fit!
