Game: D&D 2024 Group type: Online (Discord) [Sessions are intended to be used as podcast audio; mic quality is incredibly important to reduce the time spent editing audio.] My Experience: Moderate (2+ Years running multiple systems) Timezone: Central Standard Time Schedule: Sunday weekly; 3 PM CST - 7 PM CST Roles sought: Five Players (Experienced players preferred) Game style: Horror. Gritty. Roleplay heavy.
The world of Ivarthiel was once a land of proud kingdoms, sprawling cities, and sacred groves where the gods walked among mortals. Now, it is a realm of twilight and terror, its skies smothered by the Ashen Veil, a churning vortex of smoke and screaming souls that stretches across the heavens. The Veil is not simply a storm—it is the wound where reality bleeds, an open portal to the Abyss, spilling horrors into the land without end.
-
The invasion began seventeen years ago, when the skies over the Holy City of Vaeroth split apart, and from the wound in the heavens, the first demons came screaming forth. They were not the brutish fiends of legend but hunters of flesh, parasites of the soul, nightmares that walked on broken legs and whispered from the shadows. At first, the kingdoms of men and elves fought valiantly—but the Ashen Veil choked the sun, and as the darkness spread, so too did the corruption.
No fortress held against the tide. No god answered the prayers of the dying. The invasion was not a war—it was an infection.
-
Now, the world is a shattered graveyard of haunted cities and festering war zones, ruled by demon lords that have carved the land into their own personal domains of torment. Civilization clings to survival in hidden strongholds, underground crypt-cities, and temple-fortresses where the last remnants of mortal resistance gather.
The Role of the Players: The adventurers are among the last flickers of mortal defiance, members of a resistance known as The Veilbound, warriors, scholars, and outcasts who have either escaped the corruption or learned to walk its edge without succumbing. Their missions may include:
- Escorting survivors to the last sanctuaries, keeping them from the eyes of the Pale Hunt. - Recovering lost relics of light, the few artifacts untouched by corruption, capable of pushing back the abyss. - Severing the Ashen Veil, discovering the forbidden knowledge that might undo the invasion at its source—if it does not destroy them first. - Confronting demon lords and breaking their grip over stolen lands, though the cost is high, and victory is never certain.
Themes of the Campaign: - Corruption & Despair – How much can the characters endure before they, too, are lost? - Body Horror – The transformation of mortals into demonic horrors is not instant—it is agonizingly slow. - Survival Horror – Supplies are scarce, safety is an illusion, and every battle has consequences. - Existential Dread – The demons do not just kill; they erase identities, rewrite memories, and consume souls. What happens when there is nothing left of the self?
More details await for those interested!
