A Little About Me & Dnd Preferences Form
My name is Johnny (He/Him) and this is my first time Dm'ing online. However in person I've been DM'ing since 2019 and I have a massive passion for Ttrpg's especially D&D. I love an emphasis on storytelling think of Critical Role, Dimension 20 or Arcane Arcade, I'm especially a fan of the latter. However I wouldn't expect that level of production value or Dm'ing experience, but I try my best and I expect my players to do the same. At the end of the day we're here to have fun and make a memorable story and adventure, as both Player's and Dungeon Master. I love to challenge my players, be it Skill based, Social, Exploration or Combat. But I'm big softie for my players and I try my best to facilitate your back stories and character builds. I expect as players you would honour me, be committed and engage as I would for you.
Please fill in form below if you're interested in joining, It will give me a better Idea whether our expectations or gameplay style will match. Thanks.
Dnd Preferences Document:
Introduction & Forgotten Relics
Firstly I'm going to be running an introductory adventure followed by the campaign module (Waterdeep Dragonheist) The Sharn Schema Scandal, however with the twist that it will be based in Sharn in the continent of Khovaire in the setting of Eberron. Additionally I may run adventures from Keys to the Golden Vault, Journeys to the radiant Citadel and Candlekeep mysteries with an Eberron twist.
Forgotten Relics: The group is contacted by an associate of theirs, Sergeant Germaine Vilroy of the Sharn Watch. She needs them to carry out a job for her and the group is eager to take it since all of them have debts needing to be paid, one way or another.
The Sharn Schema Scandal
In this adventure, the characters are pit against four major crime syndicates that influence Sharn from its shadows as they try to locate and acquire an object known as a schema. Schemas are blueprints for magical objects, and rumour has it that one is sealed in a lost workshop built by the Dhakaani empire somewhere in the ruins below Sharn. One of the Dragonmarked leaders of House Cannith, Merrix d’Cannith, believes it is the rightful property of his house, and is willing to pay an enormous sum to get it back.
What sort of Campaign will this be and What to expect?
This campaign starts 2 years after the Last War and follows a party of 5 characters with ties to the City of Towers (Sharn). This game is set in a Steampunk inspired magical setting, with Intrigue, espionage and thievery at its core. The setting of Sharn and the module lends itself better to an emphasis on narrative, roleplay, lore and exploration. Using skills, instruments, gaming sets, tools and magic built around utility will be best. However combat will play a part and I enjoy giving my players a challenge, plus I love running combat.
Possible Scenarios
Under the cover of music, the soft strings of the Warforged Bard’s melody serve as a perfect distraction, while the Thief slips into the shadows, silently scaling the walls of a well-guarded manor. Your fingers dance over the lock, the small tools in your hand expertly working their magic, and with a soft click, the door creaks open. Inside, you move like a whisper, your steps light as air as you weave through the halls, avoiding the watchful eyes of the guards. The Aberrant Sorcerer’s subtle spell has already worked its charm, the sentry down the hall slumped and snoring, their pocket watch and coin pouch ripe for the taking.
Later, you find yourself in a dimly lit underground fight ring, the smell of sweat and blood thick in the air. The cheers of the crowd fuel your adrenaline as you place a hefty bet on the outcome, watching as the Aberrant Dragonmark Monk and the Psi Warrior Fighter take their stances in the ring. The thrill of gambling courses through your veins, anticipation rising with every blow exchanged. In the quiet aftermath, the Kalashtar Artificer and Great Old One Warlock share a Telepathic link while partaking in a high-stakes game, fingers twitching with excitement at the prospect of earning enough galifars to set your plans in motion.
The following day the Dragonmarked House of Finding Paladin chases down leads on their mark while the Zealot Barbarian takes their time to honour Tira Miron, at the Cathedral of the Cleansing Flame. The Stars Druid brews potions and alcoholic cocktails with a sprinkling of magic in the Drunken Dragon tavern.
The night grows deeper, and the scent of perfume and wine mingles as you don a new face, casting Disguise Self or perhaps your innate shapeshifting as a Changeling grants you that edge to blend in among the nobles at a lavish party. While the Illusionist Wizard entertains the elite with a charming performance, your companions weave their way through the crowd, collecting secrets, capturing hearts while the Warlock’s familiar stashes away pickpocketed items. Upstairs, hidden away in private rooms, the Gloom Stalker Ranger and Trickery Domain Cleric 'borrow' priceless artifacts, paintings, and enchanted trinkets, leaving no trace but their carefully calculated exit.
Rules & Excluded Content
We’ll be primarily using the 2024 D&D ruleset and expanded rules with a bunch of my own homebrew. I also plan to run the new Bastion rules along with crafting and cooking systems. No legacy content unless I approve of it. Species are listed in Google forms. Most classes, subclasses from the core and expanded ruleset are available along with homebrew options. Backgrounds will primarily come from 2024, Homebrew, Bigby Presents Glory of Giants or The Book of Many Things. We’ll also go over rules, hard/soft limits and expectations in session 0, as well as making your character.
Excluded Content is as follows:
Blood Hunter & Illrigger = Lore reasons
College of Eloquence & Twilight Domain = Overpowered
Path of the Battlerager, Purple Dragon Knight, Way of Long Death, Oath of the Crown, Inquisitive, Storm Sorcery, Pact of the Undying, War Magic = Unsatisfying player fantasy/Underpowered
We'll be using Maps from Dndbeyond for our VTT, Discord for just about everything else. Camera for discord is more preferable but not absolutely necessary. If you are selected I will send you a link to the Sharn Schema Scandal campaign and all you do is join. We can make your character in session 0, since there are few things like stat array etc that will only be covered there, but you can always take a crack at it yourself beforehand.
Expectations
I expect a level of seriousness with this campaign, however having fun is just as important and it’s likely there will be some shenanigans along the way.
Your character cannot be a "lone wolf" or someone who has no reason to adventure. I require players to want to adventure, partake in the events of the story, be curious and work together as a group.
However your character can be a dickish rogue type, like Han Solo who begrudgingly (but in good faith) works with the party.
No evil characters. For instance, backstabbing party members, stealing magic items, making the story revolve around them, killing every NPC or actively causing discomfort for myself or any of the other players, because…that’s what my character would do, etc.
However, If you wish to play a character with darker motivations, who would be perceived as more grey or had once been a bad guy and is seeking redemption, we can discuss that further.
I expect that all players respect each other and myself and I strive to do the same for all of you.
Lastly I will go into more depth about my expectations but also ask you for yours about me, if and when you are chosen to partake in our session 0.
