People go missing all the time. Most folks just stop looking. This game’s about the ones who don’t.
Hey everyone! We’re putting together a group for a new D&D campaign with a mystery/noir vibe—think 1920s-style fantasy, trenchcoats and magic, smoky jazz bars, and unsolved disappearances. The game will be theater of the mind, run on Discord voice, with a strong focus on roleplay, storytelling, and gritty atmosphere.
This isn’t your typical dungeon-crawling campaign—it’s more about digging into the case, unraveling secrets, and building characters who actually care about what’s going on (even if they’re kind of a mess themselves). Think True Detective, Arcane, Dishonored, LA Noire, but with magic and weird creatures.
🎲 The Basics: System: Loosely based on D&D 5e / 5.5e
Where: Discord (voice only, theater of the mind)
When: Fridays at 7pm EST, bi-weekly
Group Size: 7 players total
Age: 18+ only
Tone: Gritty mystery, noir detective story, character-focused with supernatural elements

I tend to play morally-grey intimidating lesbians of some stripe. I played a government double agent during my largest campaign (undercover for the first few months) and a bronze age mystic with some really permissive views on political violence. I tend to play collectivists, or at least people who position against fascism admittedly to a fault. I tend not to be one for a heroic campaign, but only in the sense that I see "good" as merely perspectival and "means to an end" as the sort of justification you can use for nearly anything. I like working with the DM on as much enmeshment with lore as possible and I have experimented with character faults and found that I really like a mechanical fault as a mechanism of plot-making, but certainly do not require that kind of thing, I'm just open to it where its fun. Big rule of cool fan so long as we all think its cool. I tend to legitimate my characters by affiliating them to some larger structure as some sort of cog in the wheel. A leader among pawns is my favored starting position because I find being the "inside man" is a part I play very well and have fun with consistently.
Generally, I have trained as an actor and written plays and am currently a theater and poli sci double major trying to complete my degree in Chicago. I think the characters I tend to play probably are much less self-insert than I make them sound with that in mind, but who knows? I kind of think everyone has to be a self insert player. I love games that play as social deduction but have mechanical threads to play with, so a game like Blood on the Clocktower would be a great example of a continual information-gathering game that hinges largely on trust.
I would love to share that I have some experience in playing DnD both from in-person and digital, I am comfortable using discord, and I love the film noir or gritty campaign vibes! Let me know if you'd like to meet to talk campaign stuff :)
Normally I'll play headstrong, stuck in their way paladins who follow a rather obscure oath, kind of a darker one. Not quite evil, but far from just a hero who stays the good guy. They're people who do what they have to do to survive and get the job done. My race varies pretty heavily, I do like playing the rarer races, like Genasi, Centaur, Firbolg all the ones you never really see as a DM.
I bring a mix of Shenanigans, Strategy, and Dramatic Roleplay. I'm a pretty decent voice actor, and love to stick to my character, specially when everyone else is aswell!
I've always had a thing for Noir and gritty adventures, and I'm hoping that we can build a good party together.
I like to play as a sorta cold and quiet characters with a deep connection to magic i like to play out their stories as their obsessions with learning everything they can drives them to joining a group and using their skills to further my own goals but overtime they come to truly care for those around them instead of seeing them as useful pawns or i also enjoy a deep emotionally scarred character who has to move away from their past and come to be excited about the future
im definitely a big fan of the big roleplay moments when everyone in the party is able to express their character’s personalities i love seeing how others play their characters out but i also love a good big fight that forces the party to really plan things out and work together to win instead of just spamming over and over
i havent had the chance to play out a whodunnit kinda vibe in a dnd game but i lovee these kinda books and movies and think it would be an absolute blast to play it out ourselves! And who doesnt love some supernatural entities messing with the party

Howdy, I'm Jill (20, They/they, she her.) and I haven't played much dnd in a while, but when I did, I tend to play characters who aren't especially skilled in combat—whether physically weak, underprepared, or simply out of their depth. I enjoy roleplaying characters who make choices that put themselves in harm's way if it means saving others. I'm thinking of playing a Socially inept character that tries to be change that about themselves, but knows it would be hard due to the grim situation. As for class and race, I'm not sure what I want to be yet, but I want to play a supporting role.
It's been a good while since I joined a campaign I'll admit, but my favorite part of the few I did was the Problem solving and Party interactions, so this Fantasy Noir sounds right up my alley. Thank you for your time.
I haven't played in a while but I've been a part of some DnD clubs and used to drop in for one shots at a game store. Excited to get back into the game. I generally like to play the druids and rangers cause that's pretty much just me irl (an environmentalist studying wildlife management). However, now I'm trying to break that streak and try out different kinds of characters. It isn't roleplay if I just play me! I think it'd be fun to play some whacky characters and stretch out my acting muscles. I also rather play supports or tricksters than being a main damage dealer, though the exact class and race isn't super important. Whatever fits best with the party!
As a player, I'm into emotional moments where I can really get into my character, but I also like solving puzzles and guessing at what comes next. I love the idea of a mystery campaign cause I know it'll give me lots to think about. Looking forward to some nice twists to leave me excited for the next game. Overall, though, I'm looking for a supportive group of people who can get to know each other. DnD is always better when we're comfortable enough to joke around and be ourselves.
I hope there's still room in this group for me!

What kind of characters or classes/species you like to play
I would love to play a femme fatale high elf, maybe a sorcerer? I could always change any of that though. I usually play druids, but I think what I suggested might be something new and interesting to play.
Your vibe as a player (Are you here for the drama? Big roleplay moments? Detective brain mode? Team shenanigans?)
I'm a big roleplay person and I love team shenanigans. I tend to be quiet around big personalities sometimes, and I'd love to work on that.

hi there! not sure if you're still accepting player applications but this sounds incredibly fun! i am a new player with no experience playing, so i hope your campaign is new player friendly, but if it isn't, i totally understand.

i haven't had the chance to play any characters, but i find myself interested in the rogue, ranger, bard, and paladin classes! and i'm drawn to elves, but i'm down to portray any species and have fun with it. personality/story-wise, i think i'd like to portray a male/masc-presenting character who likes to brood and used to like keeping to himself, slow to make friends, but will work with others in order to accomplish what it is he wishes to accomplish. work first, socialize later type.
