I am writing on behalf of a family member, they are good in reading and writing, but she struggles with verbal communication, she needs practice and I thought how about what if her character didn't speak common, or standard, or whatever version for "basically English" is in your world. This means that her character will need things explained to which would require more patience.
Any group interested in having her? she prefers science fiction to fantasy start trek to star wars.
This is an incredibly great idea. I don't use common in my world. There's many cultures she could be from. But I don't play 5e. I play the slimmest DnD ruleset you can get, AD&D 1e. It scares off a lot of people, but its their loss TBH. It's a fantastic and easy to play system built for roleplay. My campaign world is a combination of scifi and fantasy; more mad max than star wars, but not as clean and tidy as star trek. She'd be welcome in my campaign any time.
