Looking for players that are not afraid to take a chance on some classic original Gary Gygax adventures. Current campaign is the 1979 classic adventure B2 Keep on the Borderlands...NOT the new 2025 starter set version.
Must be 21+. Current age range of this group is 21-55+. Very easy going, fun & helpful group of members.
I run a Discord group that plays every Sunday nights starting at 7pm EST.
We play using Discord for voice chat & DnD Beyond for characters, maps, dice, etc.
At times, characters will have to be made according to classic 1979 Player's Handbook character stats/requirements. I do have a condensed guide I created taken directly from the '79 Player's handbook. Characters can be made using Beyond. This is done as to give players a chance to experience, if they haven't already played this way, what it was like learning the game when it originally came out. All level advancement is done using XP, not milestone. Any subclass can be chosen from the newer 2014/2024 stats. This gives the player a chance to learn about their character & skills. This method also allows a player to come up with a unique background/backstory for the character. This is how I learned to play back then in study hall & weekends at friends' houses.
I encourage team building since there is no I in team. The more you help out fellow team members or do something that i am impressed with gets you a chance to earn some bonus XP. Remember...these are classic Gygax...so dungeon crawl meat grinders with empty rooms & dead ends.
Game play rules are based off of 2014 rules.
Before you turn away... just know that I have had players that ONLY swore by 2014 rules/stats/characters creation before trying this system...now they love it because it challenges them. When D&D first came out you only had limited choices for race(species) & class instead of the millions options available today. I have even introduced players to the "old school" THAC0 (To Hit AC 0) method. It gives even more challenge to the players to test their playing ability.
Weekly games consist of long-tern campaigns mixed in with the occasional homebrew run by one of my backup DMs when I need to work on the campaign & regular/holiday one-shots for added fun where players can use ANY character they wish that is NOT associated(locked) with the current campaign. Game type for the following week will be announced during the Sunday session.
Don't pass us by or say, "It won't or can't work using both methods". It does work & have had NO complaints from current group members. AGAIN...we play using 2014 rule set.
So, if you're up for a change of pace & looking for a place to roll those dice then check us out. Feel free to contact me with questions at my Discord marc8970.
This sounds very intriguing. I really last played 30+ years ago 2nd edition and recently just played 4 games using discord and roll20 for the first time with online playing in the last 2 months. The DM was IMO subpar but I did enjoy it. I am rusty, but know the basics. I am on EST and think a Sunday PM game could work for my schedule. My discord is Beyonder6942

Can you tell me more? Are these old adventures that you converted to 5e?
