I’m looking for a classic D&D dungeon-crawl experience — something that feels like the old SNES Eye of the Beholder or Baldur’s Gate 1 & 2 rather than a high-fantasy, save-the-world story. I like grounded adventures focused on:
Exploration and danger — tight corridors, forgotten ruins, hidden traps.
Tactical combat where teamwork and positioning matter.
Survival and resource management — torches, rations, clever problem-solving.
A gritty, low-to-mid-fantasy tone where treasure feels earned and every fight matters.
Exploration > exposition
Tight corridors, dangerous wilderness, no guaranteed rest, and treasure that actually matters.
I’m not looking for overly goofy or meta-humor games — I enjoy campaigns that treat the world seriously and let the players shape their fate through grit and good decisions.
About Me
Brand-new player (but played AD&D 2e long ago), enthusiastic about learning the game the right way.
Will join a paid game if the DM and group are serious about the campaign
Reliable and consistent with scheduling
Enjoy immersive settings, dungeon exploration, and character growth over time.
Prefer steady, serious groups that still know how to have fun at the table.
Hello! I have a few spots in some Crooked Moon games that you might be interested in. It is paid, but the story is a folk horror survival adventure, where survival is not guaranteed. While we don't necessarily get down to ration tracking (but we could, there just isn't a lot of travel away from food sources to make it matter a lot) magic items are very rare but can be powerful. Each player also gets a personalized character arc for the campaign that is guaranteed to see completion by the end. The main adventure runs levels 1-14, but there is an optional epilogue that runs up to level 20.
If you want to know more, dm me anytime here or on discord at Gnomesftw. I have 3 games going, Friday afternoon (1-2 sessions in so still very early on), Friday evening (further along) and Saturday evening (even further along but still a very long way to go). Happy adventuring!
We know this technically says 5e, so we’ll drop this carefully on the edge of the stack and back away slowly. You mentioned playing AD&D 2e long ago and looking for that Baldur’s Gate or Eye of the Beholder style dungeon crawl, that’s exactly the kind of feel we are building towards.
Our campaign runs on AD&D 1e, high-magic but grounded in danger, resource management, and earned treasure. It’s exploration heavy, full of ruins, and plays with the same tone those old games captured.
