I've been DMing weekly for 10 years and have a strong affinity for 5e (2014). If you're interested in getting your feet wet, or looking for another table to call home then shoot me a message on Discord: Malakna
The pitch:
Rumour has it that a vault containing unimaginable wealth has been tucked away somewhere in the grand city of Waterdeep. You and your fellow adventurers meet in the famous Yawning Portal and are scouted by the one and only Volothamp Geddarm for a quest. Unbeknownst to the you, this is the first in a series of events that lands you in-between the schemes of a number of factions. Will you carefully navigate the scheming factions hell bent on finding the vault? Will you search for the treasures hidden away in the city yourselves, or will you start your own business and live a quiet life? Will you adopt a kobold named trappy and love and cherish him and tell him he's the bestest boy?
Whatever you choose, adventure awaits!
Game: D&D 5e (2014) (Waterdeep: Dragon Heist) Group type: Online (Roll 20) Experience: Any Location/Timezone: Central Standard Time (CST) Schedule: Tuesdays from 5:30-8:30 PM Roles sought: 4-6 players Game style: Heavy roleplay and some combat with emphasis on character immersion.
What you need:
- A discord account and a working microphone.
- A roll 20 account.
What I'm really after is to piece together another gaming table of friends. I've played with several groups over the years and would love to have another consistent group to play with. This is a new player friendly module and an excellent opportunity for newer players to chip their swords on, so don't hesitate to message me if you are interested even if you are new to D&D 5e. To that end I'd like to have a short but super duper ultra mega serious interview through discord. You know, just a "vibe check". I invite the dorks and loners to join and stretch those social butterfly wings from the safety of your own home!
About the game:
Characters will start at 1st level and should be finishing at 5th level. I intend to keep things simple for this campaign so class and subclass options will be limited to official material. Playable races will be limited to PHB 14 and MPMM. There will be parts in this module that are quite roleplay heavy and some combat. I will tailor the experience to the tastes of the table and do my best to provide opportunities for each player to shine. It is worth mentioning that I'm not married to the module, so it is perfectly fine if the party decides to go off the reservation so to speak!
One more thing:
I have a few simple rules at my tables:
Do not harass anotherplayer for any reason. Failure to comply will result in immediate ejection. We are here to have fun.
Be an honest gamer. It isn't my policy to police character sheets, but I've a good nose for cheaters.
Be punctual. Be aware that being late, or no call no show is incredibly disrespectful to all players. Real life happens, but just let us know!
Be a good sport. Sometimes the dice just don't roll our way. Winning in D&D is having fun. Bad rolls can be fun if you let them!
When you are making your character, it is imperative that you provide it with a strong motivation to participate with the party. Edgelord characters are seldom done well, but so long as they can remain connected to the party it is possible to make it work. Tragic backstories are not recommended but not outright banned.
Nice. I've got a Human Cleric (Trickery domain) character already planned out for a Waterdeep Dragon Heist campaign which I wasn't able to participate in. Oh, wait, it was for the 2024 ruleset, not 2014. Hmmm... I'll take a look and see if it can be tweaked. ...we're only going to level 5 so it's probably not super-different.
EDIT 2: Oh... I remember now. He was going to use MI:Wizard for 2024 True Strike, and have Toll the Dead. What does his build look like if I won't have either of those things available? And in 2014 my starting equipment forces me into either leather armor (bad AC) or something which gives Stealth disadvantage.
Also, what method of ability score generation are you using?
Im looking to play for the first time but unsure of how it works in terms of logistics. I have the base of a character but im very new to it all so id need some guidance.
@ThyriaDyre If you are free on Tuesday nights, have a discord and a roll 20 account you are set on logistics. I can help you with putting together the character sheet, transferring it to roll 20 or anything else! Shoot me a friend request on discord: Malakna
We'll get you swingin' swords and slingin' spells in no time!
I could make a character for this if needed, i am looking for dnd campaigns get into besides my current one. i have a discord acc and a roll 20 account too.
Hey! There is still room, however, I have quite a few applicants that I haven't gotten to speak with yet. I'm looking to put together a table of people that can commit, and create a long lasting gaming group. I know it may not be forever, but I want to give it the best shot I can! Just to be clear I want everyone who wants to play to be able to. However, the nature of hosting a free game that is open to anyone to join means that not everyone's expectations and commitment levels align.
If you are also looking to commit to a weekly game night for this campaign (and beyond) then don't hesitate to send me a friend request on Discord. We'll chat and get a feel for one another and if I think you'll be a good fit, we'll get you in. On the flip-side, you may find me insufferable and want to stay away from my table! It sounds harsh, but it's a necessary requirement to avoid a game fizzling out after 3 sessions, or having to introduce new players every couple of weeks.
TLDR: There is room, but, there are quite a few players looking to fill the slots. I'm talking with everyone that's interested to ensure expectations and commitment levels are aligned.

Clerics are the best! I'm sure we can get a 2014 sheet created faster than a wizard can say fireball!
We'll be using standard point buy!
