This is a great starter campaign for new players while also being a great way for experienced players to flex their muscles. Characters will eventually reach Level 13, so it is a great way to gain some experience at a higher level, preparing you for more advanced campaigns.
At my table, players will have plenty of opportunities to roleplay with other PCs and NPCs if that is their thing - if not, that is fine too. There will also be a healthy dose of combat. When possible, I will also incorporate some puzzles to solve.
I believe that rules are meant to be bent. You will have plenty of opportunities to add some flair to your characters' actions, possibly adding an additional effect to an attack on an enemy or gaining advantage on a persuasion check by finding a creative way to gain favor with a guard to get them to help you or simply let you get past them. There is a time and place for following rules as written, but Rule of Cool is way more fun! If you hit a bugbear with a Fire Bolt, I figure they would get a little distracted when their fur starts on fire - it might even do a little more damage than normal. Bunch of bandits standing in a puddle? Cast that Lightning Bolt and watch that 5-foot-wide line turn into a 10-foot radius sphere real fast! Take that, Chain Lightning!
