I am not looking for any pay for play groups.
Let us start with the most important thing: What do you call a group of bards all wearing plate armor?
A Heavy metal band.
Hey there all those that stopped by to take a look. I'm a 44 year old (He/him) looking to find a group to join to have a little fun exploring the fun worlds of fantasy we all like to escape, explore and help build. I've been doing this hobby off and on since I was 14. It started with FASA's Mechwarrior, then on to West End Star Wars 2nd Edition, then towards Dungeons and Dragons 2nd Edition, then 3.0/3.5. After that, I took the dive into Pathfinder 1st Edition, as well as Star Wars D20 (aka 3rd Edition) and a bit of Shadowrun. And finally D&D 5th Edition (2014), and lately some Pathfinder 2e. I'm familiar with the 5e 2024 rules but I haven't had the opportunity to play.
As to the style of game I like to play? Its taken a few games over the years to really nail down what I prefer. But overall I'm looking for a good balance of the pillars of the usual TTRPGs. A good balance of combat, exploration, role play as well as discovering and advancing the story the party finds itself in. I find I tend to enjoy things when it more or less evenly distributed, as I've had some less than ideal experiences when it leans too heavily in any one direction.
I've moved away from the murder hobo lifestyle of my mispent youth, and prefer to stay away from any game that actively promotes player versus player combat, or even allows for it. I much prefer a party set to work together towards a common goal, and have found that while there could be tension between players, any time PVP comes up at any table I've played at, it has never ended well. Sure, I get that Charm and Mind control does happen in game, but actively trying to kill other party members is something I just don't tolerate.
And in searching for groups, I've come across enough discussions I figure I'd put this out there as well just to save all some time: While I know some people enjoy adding rules to increase realism in the game, such as more severe combat, more in depth inventory management, realistic survival rules, and any rules of a similar nature, they are just not for me. I find it actually takes me out of the fun of the game rather then engage me more. All the power to those that do, but I'll never be one of them.
With those two points out of the way, what I'm looking for is a table with players closer in age, with a pretty easy going, laid back nature. That still keeps focus and takes the game seriously, but at the same time can recognize and laugh at some of the ridiculous situations that tend to come up in every campaign. I don't mind playing with and helping new players (it's always good to introduce and help new people enjoy this hobby that we love), And I understand that we all have adult responsibilities and families, and hope they understand the same. If for whatever reason I can't make a session, I'll make sure to notify as soon in advance as I can. And I'm also willing to shift days when needed (as long as it is within the dates and times listed in my availability).
For transparency, in DnD 5e I've done the following modules: Lost Mines of Phendalver, Waterdeep Dragon Heist, and Storm Kings Thunder. I don't mind playing them again, but preference would be given to new modules. And I'm always game for anyone's home brewed campaign, as learning about the world we find ourselves in is part of the fun!
Well, if you made till here, thanks for your attention! I hope that I could be a potential fit for your group, and I'm more than happy to answer any questions you may have, be it here, or on Discord. I'll do my best to reply, but during the day due to work and family obligations I may take some time to reply. Best of luck to you all finding your groups or your parties!
