Top section of this thread will have the basics, some information, what I am looking. Bottom section of this thread will have more about me and further detail of the world. You will be introduced to the game in the new year, aiming January 4th or 11th, which will give you plenty of time to create a character, read what you want on our discord page, and allow me to get a few applicants so that the players get to vote on you as the next player introduced to the campaign.
1. Homebrew setting: A dying planet encased in a toxic, magical gloom. Survival is harsh, resources are limited, and magic is dangerous. Grim, horror, diseases, magic gone wrong. Using Grim Hollow book for heritages, feats, classes, as well as PHB. Restricted access to other contents. 2. Campaign: The Wild Beyond (modified to fit the world). 3. Play: Sundays from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm EST. 4. Current players: Four. Maximum five (one player left as they can no longer meet up on Sundays). 5. Current character classes: Monster Hunter, Fighter, Paladin, Ranger (player who left was a cleric). 6. Current level: 1 (about to finish first chapter and reach level 2). 7. What we use to play: Discord, Roll20, DNDBeyond.
What I am looking for, and if interested, please reply with the following answers. Direct Message is best if you don't want to publicly share the information on this thread. 1. GenX players preferably (I am a GenX DM, and it is very challenging to get into games with younger folk; so, I want to favour us older ones/elder players). Please let me know your age. 2. Your discord addy so I can add you if selected. 3. What concept are you wanting to play in a grim world? Be open to bad things happening in your environment. 4. Are you open to house rules, and a code of conduct? 5. Characters start with curses (as per campaign module), you need to be okay with this.
Who am I as a DM? I am a GenX queer woman who's played first edition Dungeons and Dragons in the late 80s and in high school, Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. I had a long pause after high school as I joined the army and made my career. Near the later phase of service, I started to get back into some light playing of D&D. Now retired veteran (with injuries), I can focus on one of my greatest hobbies: D&D. I have been back on the saddle for the last seven years or so, from player to dungeon master, and now both. I like goth, horror, filth, aberrations, and changing a module/campaign to fit this kind of world. I would consider myself a moderately-skilled DM (not really beginner, not really pro). I pour hours of out-of-game time to help tailor my world, stories, and try to bring in character backgrounds into the world. I also want to have lasting effects on the world I have created, so that players can make choices and discover things as we do campaigns, and in the future one-shots. I don't charge anything because I just want to have some of us older players to find a good group and share/create a story together. My first language is French, but I am fluent in English, and we play in English (that said, I might have an accent or sometimes confuse words, which make for some funny moments by native English speakers). I focus on roleplaying, minimizing rolls, and mixing mechanics with a little "rule of cool".
The world in three paragraphs: 1. The Sun/Sky: The sky is choked by the Gloom Tide—a perpetual, soul-crushing twilight. Solus (Light) is failing. Magic: All magic is volatile and often tied to psychic energy. Uncontrolled casting carries a risk of Volatility (psychic/magical backlash). Nature: Nature is dead or utterly corrupted by the Divine Rot. Druids and Rangers are rebels or heretics attempting to heal a dying world. Water/Food: Pure water is the primary resource. Rivers and rain are tainted. All major settlements depend on purification rituals or hoarded supplies. 2. The Citadel: Ruled by the Council of Archivists (Wizards/Clerics) who prioritize order and knowledge preservation over the lives of the populace. Paranoia is the law. The Pantheon: Only three grim entities matter: The Architect (Order), Solus (The Fading Sun), and The Sanguine Mother (Forbidden Life/Blood). Money: Knowledge, Purity, and Iron are the real currencies. Information (scrolls) and pure water (Aethel-Tears) are far more valuable than gold. 3. Humans, Dwarves, Grudgels: The Core Pillars of the Citadel. You are relatively accepted but carry the burden of military service and heavy labor. Elves, Gnomes, Wulven: The Specialized. You have unique skills (lore, scouting, technology) but are generally rare, sequestered, or mistrusted. Accursed, Dhampir, Disembodied: The Banished. Your appearance or lineage marks you as Rot-tainted or too dangerous. You cannot walk openly in the Inner Citadel and must start your journey in an isolated hamlet (Sorrow's End) or the Contested Wastes.
My discord is .blayner this sounds like it would be very interesting
1. GenX players preferably (I am a GenX DM, and it is very challenging to get into games with younger folk; so, I want to favour us older ones/elder players). Please let me know your age. I am a Gen Xer myself. 48 years of age 2. Your discord addy so I can add you if selected. .blayner 3. What concept are you wanting to play in a grim world? Be open to bad things happening in your environment. I am thinking about playing a Rogue Dhampir. I will create a backstory in the am. His name would be Draven Thorne 4. Are you open to house rules, and a code of conduct? I am good with house rules and totally agree with a code of conduct. 5. Characters start with curses (as per campaign module), you need to be okay with this. I am open to starting with a curse
