About me: 50 yo man from California, been playing D&D since 1e back in 3rd grade. Love 5e, but my old D&D group (same guys I played with in 3rd grade believe it or not) isn't as available as they used to be so looking to make some new acquaintances that enjoy this game. Despite having played for over 30 years I have yet to play a group that leveled all the way to 20, or even really above lvl 12. I'd like to engage with a group who would like to start at low levels (1-5) and play in an ongoing world with the intent of getting all the way to higher levels and bigger adventures.
I'm hoping to find a group of players willing to play a mature game (read emotionally mature not sexy-time) but with a sense of humor. Think Buffy meets Firefly in terms of tone if not content. I enjoy light roleplaying, I definitely want to make a character with a story and build them up over time. Hopefully in a group that actively works together as a team rather than having an edge lord or 2 causing headaches by murder/slashing every NPC who doesn't behave the way they want. I enjoy puzzles and intrigue but would prefer not to have to watch my teammates spend time roleplaying things you can do in real life, like hitting on barmaids. I find that kind of thing a bit silly TBH. I really find a lot of joy in the tactical side of the game as well, especially with a team that has good synergy while mixing in a few good one-liners.
Time Zone: PST, open to evening/weekend play times. 1/week or so would work for me.
Player or DM: Prefer to be a player
Communication: Discord/Roll20 seems to be the flavor of the day but open to using any of the VTT available.
Campaign: Pretty open, I like Eberron/Forgotten Realms. But I find a good DM can make any setting work.
Rules: 5e with limited home-brew, but again, I try to be flexible.
Second time reaching out this way to meeting folks online. I have heard some horror stories, but I've also heard some good connections can be made. Previous group I met we played 4 campaigns in 5 years, but we had to take a break due to RL.
Alignment: Good-ish is the goal. I've tried "evil" campaigns and they don't seem to work well or for long. They also seems to attract contentious players, which I try to avoid.
Ok, that's what I've got, lemme know if any of this sounds good to any of you. Thanks!
Edit: I wanted to clarify that by mature, I wasn't trying to exclude younger players. Perfectly happy to play with younger/newer players, as long as the interactions are respectful, well-intentioned and if there are disputes they can be resolved in a reasonable manner. Thanks again!
