Game: DnD 5e 2014 with lots of homebrew rules, items, secrets and flavour.
Group type: Online / Discord for voice chat and world resources / DnD Beyond for character sheets and rolls / Roll20 for combat.
Experience: Around 4 years on and off DMing in DnD specifically. 10+ years across various IRL and online roleplaying scenarios, writing and story-crafting/world-building.
Location/Timezone: I am based in BST but aslong as you are able to make the allocated time it shouldn't be a problem. We currently have 2 players in CEST and 1 in EEST.
Schedule: 10:00AM BST start on every other Sunday (in theory, however in practicality some members might have commitments and it might have to occur every 3-4 Sundays at times). We play for at least 4 hours, though if everyone is having so much fun they don't want to stop and don't have any commitments later in the day we often go overtime. We run a brief 5-15min food/drink break 2ish hours into a session. First session back will be on the 17th of May.
Roles sought: We've had about 16 sessions in this continuous (5player incl. me) campaign so far, but had to stop at the time due to various real life commitments and personal issues. One of the original players is still unable to rejoin and as such we are currently only looking for 1 new player to join us. Luckily our last session ended just as the storyline of their first city wrapped up, so you won't be jumping in midway through a confusing plot - it is as natural a time to join as any (and we will be doing a recap for the benefit of ALL players anyway as it has been over 2 years since we played together!)
Game style: Fun, friendly and casual group environment but set in a grim, serious world. A lot of roleplay and problem-solving but with (hopefully) well-placed and memorable moments of combat (generally one "serious fight" a session). Low-fantasy world and themes but with the relatively rare existence of high-fantasy magic and creatures.
Willing to take on any experience level. 18+ is necessary due to certain themes and topics. Only apply if you're open-minded and at least willing to try and be understanding of all walks of life. Be prepared to witness injustices while not always being able to do something about it (depending on the situation/context).
The most important thing that I must stress is that this IS a low-fantasy world, and as such many of the traditional DnD/Fantasy options will be limited. Magic is shunned in many scenarios due to people erroneously believing it to be an art invented by the Elves, and as such its use must be handled tactfully wherever possible. The only "civilised" species that currently exists on the continents you will be inhabiting is Humans - as such you will be playing at a disadvantage if you play as anything else (though I do not outright discourage this, we have a fairy and an "aasimar" (who does admittedly appear as a Human)).
Human's are mistrustful of other cultures let alone species - they are seen as creations from the experiments of Elves, although depending on your race chosen you could have ended up here accidentally from a different world with no way to return. Fantasy beasts & monsters do exist across the world, but at the very most they live in remote parts as tribes, however more often than not they roam individually or in packs as some kind of "family unit". The only two species in the world that are "civilised" are Humans and Elves, though Elves have not been seen in the Northlands since the Great Changing a little under 650 years prior to the start of the campaign.
As long as you're the kind of person who thinks you might enjoy getting involved in and learning about the lore of the world, as well as using your creativity and imagination to explore and engage with it then I'm sure you'll find a decent amount of depth and enjoyment out of what has been created. There is a solid amount of background lore, maps and general resources that have accumulated within the discord server if you'd like to know more about the world in which you'll be inhabiting, and I am more than happy to offer insight if you'd like to play something established within the world.
I am always more than happy to cater to homebrew at my own discretion - do not worry I've already allowed/created a lot that people have requested, just ask, the worst answer you can receive is no. You will have to select from a stat spread of about 3 options (be prepared you will have to take one -2 xD). And forgive me if I don't allow some of the race options. You will be starting at level 5.
Wanting to find the right kind of person to fit into our group, so do not be offended by the fact that I'd like to chat to everyone first before settling on a player. We can all hopefully make some new friends and meet other like-minded individuals. It is our intention to have this be a "forever world" if you will, and so only apply if you're wanting to be involved in a very long-term campaign with some hopefully life-long friends. Thank you for your consideration!
