I am currently looking for a player to join an existing Curse of Strahd: Reloaded campaign, which uses a reworked version of the official Curse of Strahd module.
Due to unknown reasons (genuinely no idea) I have recently lost a member of the party and as such I am looking for another player to fill in the slot emptied by them. This will not be without considerable difficulty due to the nature of the Curse of Strahd setting so I will need to work closely with you to find a way for your character to show up in such a strange land without having already been with the party from the beginning. Thankfully the campaign hasn't been running for too long, however, there would still be a sizeable amount to have you/your character catch up on.
In case it may help, the party composition is as follows:
Owlin Monk
Aasimar Paladin
Elf Ranger
Human Rogue
The character leaving was a Dwarf Druid
This does not mean any new character should solely be decided on filling any perceived holes in party composition, but you may certainly use this to help avoid any unintentional overlaps (intentional overlaps are of course fine).
Players of all backgrounds and experience are welcome, after all, we are all here for fun. However, due to the mixture of dark/explicit topics all players must be 18+.
What is Curse of Strahd: Reloaded?
Tone. This will be a heroic fantasy adventure in a dark fantasy/gothic horror setting. Your character should be a hero, or have the potential to swiftly become a hero when faced with a life-or-death situation. Be prepared to cooperate and collaborate with the other players in order to succeed.
Theme. While this campaign will not explore or focus upon your character's personal backstory, you should allow the campaign's characters and setting to inspire your character to confront their own regrets, traumas, flaws, and fears.
Engagement. This campaign takes place in a setting with a deep history, including complex relationships between several dozen non-player characters. You should expect to take notes and take a sincere interest in the lore of this world.
Tactics & Difficulty. This campaign has been balanced to present a challenging, but fair gameplay experience. However, to succeed, you will often need to recruit additional allies while avoiding alienating potential enemies. Consider the consequences of your actions carefully, and avoid taking actions without careful consideration.
Roleplay. This campaign is primarily driven by the stories of its non-player characters, and their relationships to the party. Be prepared to form meaningful relationships with the characters you encounter, and allow yourself to emotionally invest in those characters' success.
Rewards. Treasure, magic items, and other material rewards will be far more scarce than in an ordinary fantasy campaign. Instead, most rewards will take the form of allies, information, and new story hooks, with experience points awarded for narrative milestones you achieve as you proceed through the campaign.
Narrative. The campaign begins with a linear structure, but soon evolves into a more expansive sandbox. Be prepared to balance and prioritize multiple quests, including many with clear deadlines.
Due to the nature of this being a dark horror setting there are a variety of potential triggers that can arise such as:
Child abuse and death
Torture and mutilation
Mind control
(Implied) incest
Stalking and (symbolic) sexual assault
Suicide
Drug addiction
Body horror
Racism
Further lines and veils can be discussed prior to starting the campaign and I am more than happy to make reasonable accommodations to help you feel comfortable at the table.
Please also understand that due to this being a full campaign that a long-term commitment is expected for such a campaign. The campaign will take the players starting at level 2 to level 10 at the end of the campaign. (Although the party is currently level 3)
Who am I (the DM)?
I have been playing D&D 5e and various other TTRPG systems for almost 10 years now, and in that time I have ran a fewlong-term campaigns as well as a handful of shorter games.
I am always a huge believer in wanting to support you to create the character you hope to create, and as such I am always flexible when it comes to flavouring (or potentially reworking) character abilities and weapons if agreed upon ahead of time. However, as much as I am always willing to attempt to support players in accomplishing things that the primary ruleset does not, I am still likely to rely upon the core ruleset whenever possible to ensure a balanced and fair experience. As with many things, if you ensure to discuss things with me ahead of time and are willing to handle my rulings in the moment for us to discuss and tweak potential future rulings after the fact then I am more than happy for you to join the campaign.
If you have any further questions about me or my DMing then please let me know.
How are we playing?
We will be using Discord for all text and voice communications.
The game itself with be ran using FoundryVTT which does mean that the game will not be always accessible as I will be required to host each session from my local computer, so if, for example, you needed to check something on your character sheet or make some changes then I would need to launch up the game to let you.
If you are interested in joining then please feel free to leave a message with how I can best get a hold of you or feel free to ask any questions you might have before you do.
