The kingdom of Avelune is famed across the region for its orchards, terraced gardens, white-stone cities, and culture of beauty. Songs matter here. Flowering bridges are commissioned with the same seriousness as fortifications. Noble houses compete over sculpture, horses, and harvest displays. Pilgrims travel for the spring bloom alone.

Now something is wrong.

A crop disease called the Gray Vein is spreading through the kingdom's fields. Wheat blackens from the root. Apple flesh turns colorless. Vines survive but produce bitter fruit. The blight does not move like a normal famine or a natural contagion. It arrives in patterns, sparing some roads and devastating others. Villages are frightened. Merchants are furious. Lesser nobles are already accusing one another of hoarding clean seed or sabotaging harvest routes.

Queen Mareen, who only recently secured a fragile peace among rival factions in her own court, seeks discreet agents to find the cause of the blight before panic becomes civil fracture.
