Game: D&D 5e / 5.5e using the 2024 ruleset Group type: Online, Discord text-only Experience: New players and experienced players both welcome Location/Timezone: Online. I am looking for players who can participate in asynchronous Discord play; exact timezone is flexible. Schedule: No fixed weekly voice session. This is a text-based campaign where players post in Discord scenes as they are available. I will keep the game moving through scene responses, NPCs, rulings, checks, and consequences. Roles sought: Players. Number of openings flexible while the campaign is starting. Cost: Free. I do not charge for my games. Software/Websites: Discord and D&D Beyond are required. Dice will be handled through Discord/Avrae or D&D Beyond as needed. Theater of the mind is the default; D&D Beyond Maps, AboveVTT, or screenshots may be used occasionally for visual reference or complex scenes.
Campaign:A Line in the Sand Setting: Forgotten Realms — Calimshan, beginning in the city of Memnon Starting Level: 3 Rules: D&D 2024 / 5.5e, XP progression, Point Buy or Standard Array, fixed HP, feats allowed, multiclass requirements on, Variant Encumbrance, and coin weight tracked. Sources: Core and allowed official sources through D&D Beyond. No homebrew. Noncore or third-party options may be subject to DM review or errata during play.
Game style: This is a Discord-based multi-user text adventure RPG using D&D rules. It is not a voice game and not a traditional weekly session format. Players write what their characters say and do, and I respond with the world, NPCs, consequences, checks, combat when it happens, and new scene prompts.
The campaign is set in Calimshan, the Land of Wonders: desert caravans, magical bazaars, genie politics, ancient ruins, merchant schemes, clockwork inventions, dangerous travel, and old secrets buried under the sand. The tone is adventurous desert fantasy with a mix of roleplay, exploration, investigation, social intrigue, travel, and tactical danger.
The Discord server is organized with channels for announcements, dice, handouts, party notes, inventory, out-of-character discussion, and private scene threads. Location threads work like areas in the world. If your character enters an inn, villa, shop, ruin, or active scene, you can be added to that thread; when your character leaves, the thread can move on without forcing everyone into the same space.
You do not need to be a Forgotten Realms lore expert. I provide handouts explaining the campaign premise, what characters know, how text play works, and how character creation works.
The opening adventure begins in Memnon, a red-walled trade city on the edge of the desert, where a clockwork messenger delivers a sealed note from a wealthy refinery owner whose daughter has vanished.
Good fit for players who enjoy:
In-character writing
Exploration and investigation
Roleplaying with NPCs and other players
Meaningful character choices
A living campaign world
D&D rules without needing a weekly voice session
Please reply or message me with:
Your D&D experience level
Your comfort level with text-based play
Your general posting availability
A character concept or the kind of role you enjoy playing
1) I've played D&D on and off for the last 40 years.
2) I'm good with that.
3) Plenty of free time. I'm in EUTZ but I think this could work.
4) Got several character concepts with various degrees of backstory depth so I can adapt to the party composition, but for this campaign my Tabaxi Bard could fit nicely I think.
5) Those will probably come out later.
Hope you'll pick me, you can poke me on Discord : aramand
this sounds like a great way to avoid scheduling issues!
I'm relatively new to playing D&D, roughly 3 months twice weekly, been consuming content for years, my first TTRPG experience was Heroquest about 36 years ago
Text based is cool, I can imagine I'd be less restrained by social anxiety
I'm generally available all day, with the caveat that work is work, and does sometimes get in the way for 3 or 4 hours at a time.
I'm a big fan of the idea of being an outgoing Bard, but I'm much more comfortable playing a quiet Rogue or Ranger.
I don't have any questions YET, I'm sure there will be one or two
