By default, the game will run here on the forum. I can easily set up a discord, but will only do so if all players prefer that. I don't want anyone to feel like they have to use a particular program if they'd rather not.
The quickstart contains the basic mechanics and is free. I realize the choice of system might seem strange, but there's a reason for it. It allows you to easily create any sort of creature you can imagine, without having to worry that you'll be vastly stronger or weaker than other players. It's also extremely easy to learn and to play.
In this game, you are monsters in the service of your Dark Lord, the Dungeon Keeper. Your primary goal is to ensure his safety and success, which mostly means acquiring shiny gems and beating up the accursed heroes when they invade your home.
The Keeper's malign influence in the physical realm is only possible by way of the Dungeon Heart, which anchors his vile essence. If it is destroyed, all is lost, and the keeper shall be hurled back to the Abyss for a thousand and one years. You must protect it at all costs!
As for you, loyal servants of the malicious master, you cannot permanently die. If your corporeal form is destroyed, you shall manifest back at the dungeon heart, so long as it beats, by the dark will of the Keeper. So get back to work, and don't muck it up this time!
This thread will serve as the all-purpose OOC thread for the game. Character submissions, character sheets, questions, and all discussion about the game can go here.
This campaign will have some customized rules and systems to support its theme. Rather than go into extreme detail here, first let's see if the elevator pitch appeals to anyone. But at least I can tell you, you won't just be sitting in the dungeon with nothing to do the whole time until heroes show up. There will be plenty of chicanery and mischief for you to get up to on the surface. My plan is to introduce mechanics progressively during gameplay, much like a series of tutorials.
The ideal player count is three, but anywhere from two to five players is fine. New players may freely drop in at any time after the game has started (up to the maximum of five), and the nature of the game makes it easy for them to get started playing immediately. There will never be any need to wait around for an appropriate moment to start playing.
There is no minimum post length. Write as much or as little as needed to communicate what you're doing on your turn.
For character concepts, imagine stereotypical dungeon monsters. Skeletons, evil sorceresses, death knights, demons, trolls, etc. That doesn't mean you have to be a stereotype, though. If you want to be some obscure creature, or a twist on a classic, or something you made up, that's cool too.
There's just one restriction : monsters must be able to fit in the dungeon corridors. In this setting, dragons are more like eight feet tall bipedal winged snakes. But you can still breathe fire (or have any other effect) and have magic powers. (Being gigantic is not actually much of an advantage in this system, so you're not losing anything.) Any monster that is normally much larger than a human can be modified appropriately.
A few of the powers in the game might be restricted or modified to fit the theme. Rest assured, you will not want for cool stuff to do.
On violence and other stuff : I prefer players to keep their posts concise, and go easy on the graphic depictions of violence, please. I know we're playing as monsters, but try to lean more Saturday morning cartoon than World of Darkness as far as vibes. As far as phobias and stuff like that, I will of course eschew any creature type you ask me to, and I ask the players to show the same courtesy. I probably just won't include giant spiders by default.
This game does not focus on romance or intimacy so you won't have to worry about that from me, at least. I won't tell you what decisions you're allowed to make, though; although I have no interest in it, it doesn't bother me. I have no strong preference either way. However, if another player would prefer you not try to make out with the beholder, please respect their wishes. In general, just respect people's boundaries, and you should be fine.
You may use any method you like for formatting your character sheet. Text posts, google docs, PDFs are all fine. There is a fillable PDF character sheet template available I can provide, if you want to use that.
GM style : I don't fudge. Your successes and your failures belong solely to you. I roll everything in the open, the better to catch mistakes. I reward risk taking, the more insane and chaotic the better. Also, players may request to see the complete statistics of any foe they encounter at any time. Fair adjudication and consistency is extremely important to me. If you ever have any concerns at all, no matter how minor or silly you think they are, I want to know. The game can only be improved by communication.
As soon as two people express interest, I will begin setting up the game. Feel free to ask questions here.
I would very much like to join! My character is a college of dance bard. He was originally a human, but he got attacked by a wererat and was cursed with lycanthropy. In addition to that, he also gained black swan wings from a cursed mask, so imagine a flying wererat coming at you on the night of the full moon! (See "A Night of Masks and Monsters" for origin of the monster idea.)
I know he's only pretty much useful and monstrous during the full moon, but I hope he can still play even as a human with wings.

No, John, YOU are the monsters.

I'll use orokos for dice rolls.
