I’m looking for three players to help launch a small, collaborative D&D living-world campaign played through Discord.
The campaign will center on Roan, a small jungle village where the mortal and spirit worlds overlap. The tone will be laid-back, character-driven fantasy focused on village life, relationships, exploration, strange spirits, and episodic adventures. The world will begin small and grow naturally through the choices and ideas of its players.
System: D&D 5.5e Format: Casual play-by-post Starting group: 3 active players Expected involvement: Medium Cost: Free Tools: D&D Beyond character sheets and Discord for gameplay, campaign notes, and discussion
Setting and Tone
Roan is an intimate fantasy village surrounded by mystical jungles, unusual creatures, wandering spirits, and portals to unfamiliar worlds.
Major inspirations include: Studio Ghibli, The Jungle Book, Kingdom Hearts, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Slice-of-life fantasy and episodic adventure stories
The campaign will emphasize roleplay and exploration, with combat and danger appearing when the story calls for them. Characters will become members of the community rather than simply adventurers passing through it.
How the Living World Will Work
I’ll begin as the primary DM, introducing Roan, its residents, and the first adventures. As the group becomes established, players will be encouraged to suggest personal storylines, locations, characters, rumors, and possible future chapters.
There is no expectation that players immediately become DMs or arrive with extensive worldbuilding prepared. The goal is to gradually build the setting together while keeping the game relaxed and approachable.
This is a new format for me. I have beginner-level DM experience, but I’ve found thoughtful play-by-post games extremely rewarding and want to create something within this particular genre.
I’m looking for friendly, collaborative players who enjoy character development, creative roleplay, and allowing stories to unfold without rushing.
Reply here or send me a direct message if the concept interests you and you think you would be a good fit.
That's fine with me. Ideally this will be an all ages welcomed game. PG rated to pg-13 rated is maybe a good mindset of the range of content warnings. Part of the communal story and world building will be finding that balance of tone that fits the world best.
