Hi, I am looking to start playing for the very first time. I just made my first character, a rogue called Jaltar. I made my character sheet public to hopefully make it easier to see if I fit with a group. As I have said I never played and have a very base understanding of the rules but would love to learn and grow my character. I am open to suggestions if I made mistakes while making my character also. I am EST and love mornings but definitely okay with playing at night. Again, thank you and look forward to learning how to play. Here is a link to my character, https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/167902300/OJ5Lbg
I have a forming group that also has some new players, it will be on Mondays at 10 pm EST if thats not too late for you, add me on discord "makinfire" i also have some other timeslots on different days if you are interested.
Hey Char, Mike here. Forever DM for, well, a long time. Took a look at Jaitar and there's a few things that jumper out at me, so I thought I'd bring them up.
#1: Don't use Roll dice for a beginner character. Either use Point Buy or Standard Array. 72 total stat points are what DM's are looking for and if you tally higher than that, that's an immediate red flag.
#2: Int and Wis too low: For a fighter, he checks out. For a rogue? Not even close. Rogues live or die based on Perception and Investigation, so cheeping out on those two stats is a huge mistake. For a Rogue, Str and Con are your dump stats, and I know what you're thinking, but seriously, CON isn't as required as you might think, but Int and Wis are far more important. I just ran a rogue for a couple of months in an online game called Everweave (Don't bother, it's still in early access and it's not ready, plus it's only loosely based on 5e, so, there's that.) But I got to effectively level 11 and one of things I learned was, if you're ever trying to figure out what the bad guys are up to, you NEED Investigation (Or an Int score that gives you at least a +1 {+2 is better, but) For my build, I took Perception and Stealth, with Expertise in both. When sneaking around or spotting trouble before I ate an arrow, I was the DM's worst enemy.
Anyway, hope this helps. Good luck in a game, should you find one.
