I’m a new tabletop D&D player looking for a play-by-post campaign and a group that enjoys collaborative storytelling, character development, and consistent participation.
I’ve been learning through D&D Beyond and have developed an Orc Cleric concept named Drogath Vhar that I’d love the opportunity to adapt to a campaign. I originally built him using the 2024 rules, but nothing mechanical is locked in. I’m happy to rebuild his stats, starting level, equipment, subclass, and other mechanics according to the DM’s character-creation rules and allowed sources.
The core character concept is more important to me than preserving a particular build:
Drogath is a former Adjudicator from a religious order devoted to judgment, accountability, and the belief that every deed carries a consequence. He eventually left the Order after discovering that its leadership was willing to overlook serious wrongdoing in the name of political stability. He remains deeply devoted to his faith and its original teachings, but now travels without rank or institution, trying to live according to those principles himself.
His outlook can be morally harsh, and I originally envisioned him as Lawful Evil, but he’s specifically designed not to create party conflict. He isn’t cruel or self-serving, doesn’t pursue wealth or power, values loyalty strongly, and will protect those he considers companions. His morality is intended to create interesting questions and roleplay rather than provide an excuse for disruptive behavior.
His existing backstory is also completely adaptable to the campaign setting. Names such as his former Order, its members, enemies, locations, and historical details can be changed or developed with the DM so that Drogath actually belongs in the world rather than having a prewritten story imposed upon it.
I’m particularly interested in:
Play-by-post, preferably with reasonably consistent activity
Roleplay and character development alongside exploration/combat
A cooperative group where characters can disagree without creating player conflict
A DM willing to work with a new player who’s still learning the mechanics
I can generally post at least once per day and often more frequently when others are active. I’m happy to learn, take feedback, and adjust the character to fit the table.
I do have a D&D Beyond sheet and a more developed version of Drogath’s backstory, but I consider both a starting point rather than a finished character submission. I’d be happy to share them with an interested DM and rebuild whatever is necessary for their campaign.
Thanks for reading! If you think the concept could fit your game—or simply want to discuss how he might be adapted—I’d be glad to hear from you.
Just thought I'd come in and give you some advice. I know I'd want it if I were in your position - It's generally considered bad practice to make a character before speaking to the prospective DM. This is because:
- Different DMs have different rules for character creation including how to roll stats, what starting items you get, what level to start as, and which sources are allowed.
- Your backstory will feel a lot more real if it's based on the world you'll be playing in. This is because places, people, and events from your backstory can come up in the game.
Instead of sharing a character, you may want to try "I'm eager to learn and have a concept for an orc cleric that I'd love to discuss", or at least make it clear that the character is adjustable/negotiable.
I think this advice is especially true in your case, since your character also has insanely high stats (19,18,17,16,14,7) - far far more powerful than your average lvl 1 character, which can affect the fun of other players. (For context, your character's stat total is 91, standard array is 72)
Thanks for the heads up. I just rolled for his stats, but am more than willing to redo them to balance it and bring him in line with whatever the standard point values would be.
I’ve edited the original post to reflect your recommendations.
