What is a West Marches Campaign?
A West Marches campaign is a large-scale, sandbox-style D&D game featuring a rotating cast of players. Rather than following a fixed party or linear story, players organize expeditions from a central settlement into dangerous, unexplored lands.
Each adventure typically:
Begins and ends in town.
Explores an open-world sandbox.
Allows player choices to permanently shape the world.
Encourages discovery, survival, and cooperation.
The Setting
Welcome to Faerûn... 500 years after the end of a legendary age.
This campaign takes place five centuries after the events of my previous five-year West Marches campaign. The actions of those adventurers forever changed the world.
Long ago, a devastating war threatened to consume the continent. As mighty heroes made their final stand, reality itself fractured. A great rift opened, and the once-powerful empires of the Forgotten East vanished beyond it.
For five hundred years, the eastern lands remained silent.
Now...
Rumors speak of forgotten cities buried beneath the sands, marauder kingdoms roaming the wastelands, ancient relics untouched by time, and isolated pockets of civilization that somehow endured.
Meanwhile, the Western nations have entered a new age.
The great cities of Baldur's Gate, Waterdeep, Neverwinter, Athkatla, Calimport, and Hearth Home have embraced steam power, diesel technology, firearms, and industrial innovation.
Seeking wealth, territory, and forgotten knowledge, these western powers have formed a coalition to fund expeditions into the lost east. Adventurers willing to risk everything are promised coin, land, influence, and the chance to shape the future.
New frontier settlements now cling to the edge of civilization, serving as staging grounds for exploration, trade, and conquest—but every mile beyond their walls is deadly.
The wasteland remembers.
