System: D&D 5e/5.5e Setting: Barovia & The Domains of Dread (Featuring content from CoS: Revamped, Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft, and The Horrors Within) Platform: Roll20 + D&D Beyond for character creation + Discord for Voice Schedule: Mondays and Saturdays (as the DM is available) from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM CST (Play when you can!)
The Pitch The Mists of Ravenloft are churning. Barovia is no longer just a isolated prison—it has become a focal point for the multi-dimensional horrors of the Dread Realms. In this campaign, the Mists themselves are a living, shifting entity. Because the fog is constantly warping reality, this is a flexible, pickup-style campaign. One day you are fighting alongside allies in the shadow of Castle Ravenloft; the next, the Mists swallow them whole and spit out new survivors in their place. Whether you can commit to every session or just want to drop in when your schedule allows, the Mists have a place for you.
How the Pickup System Works * Flexible Schedule: Sessions will run AT LEAST every other week (Mondays and Saturdays at 11 AM CST) or up to twice a week. An RSVP system will open weekly—sign up for the days you are free! * The Mist Mechanic: If you can't make a session, your character is temporarily claimed by the Mists. When you return, the Mists spit you back into the party with stories of the horrors you saw in the fog. * High Variance: Pulling from the newest Ravenloft sourcebooks, you will face classic Gothic vampires alongside psychological, cosmic, and body horrors. *You MUST attend session 0 with the party. Date TBD (one of the listed game times)
What I'm Looking For * Age: 18+ only (Gothic horror themes). * Experience: Previous experience required! Great for players who want to experience Curse of Strahd but have volatile weekly schedules. * Vibe: Reliable communication, respectful behavior, and a love for dark, atmospheric storytelling. Curse of Strahd: Character Creation Guide Welcome to Barovia. The mists are waiting, and your survival depends entirely on who you are before you cross the threshold. Follow these rules to build your Level 3 character.
Core Mechanics & Stats * System Rules: Use the 2024 Core Rules (5.5e) for all class features, species traits, and spell mechanics. (Daylight spell will remain 5e) * Starting Level: Level 3 * Ability Scores: Point Buy System. * Backgrounds & Features * 2024 Backgrounds: Choose a 2024 background (or customize one per the core rules) to get your +2/+1 (or three +1s) ability score increases and your Origin Feat. * The Mists' Favor (One Free Feat): Every player receives one additional free Feat at character creation to represent your specialized training or survival instincts. * Restriction: This must be an Origin Feat or a General Feat that you qualify for at Level 1. The Gothic Trinket Your character carries a strange, unsettling item that connects them to the darker side of the world. * The Rule: You must select one Gothic Trinket from the Curse of Strahd appendix or Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft. * Homebrew Option: You may design your own custom creepy trinket. It must have zero mechanical or combat benefit and must be submitted to the DM for approval before the first session.
Character Background Template To ensure your character has skin in the game, your background story must be at least 8 sentences longand must clearly establish a driving character goal.
Your D&D experience/ Experience with Curse of Strahd.
Your general availability for the Monday/Saturday slots.
Your favorite TTRPG moment in a previous game.
Your favorite pillar of D&D.
A brief character concept you'd love to throw into the meat-grinder of the Mists. (No problem if you don’t have a concept to drop here, I will NOT count it against you).
If I think you will be a good fit, I’ll shoot you a message and we’ll do a brief interview over discord!
My name is Wren and I use any pronouns, but mainly she/they
My discord handle is karmagedon_
I've played in few dnd campaigns and i've been in the community for much longer. I also play CoC, so roleplay is no issue.
My mondays are almost always free, saturdays more often then not.
My favourite TTRPG moment would be when the party found a sentient quill pen, and we started asking it stupid questions (also lore but thats not as fun lol)
Its hard to pick a pillar since they all have their place, but I would say exploration.
I like the idea of playing a character that speaks to something that isn't really there, or a character obsessed with the darker side of nature (like rot and decay, instead of the more typical side)

Hi everyone! I'm 19 and based in the UK :) I'm lesbian so i'm open to any and all walks of life!
I’ve been playing dnd for 6 years, mostly as a DM. I’ve finished CoS once as a DM and am running it again now with updated rules, but I’d really like to experience this as a player! My only experience is with the vanilla module, none of the modified campaigns.
I’m available on Mondays, though there will be days I have to come in late if work keeps me. This isn’t usually a common occurrence.
Less a moment and more a character development. My giant barbarian in Tomb of Annihilation had slowly gathered up different ghosts over the course of the adventure, including the teleporting t-Rex in Omu. It was mostly a joke because the DM kept popping the token back into the corner of the map during downtime activities, like it was watching me, and eventually it got into my ghost lantern too. I just embraced the joke of it and had my barbarian start speaking of soothe sayers in his clan, and how he’d always admired them. And so he basically became one and I would commune with my fallen enemies every so often. I couldn’t directly talk to them of course, because of the soul monger situation, but I could sense their presence and was pulled along by it.
I love interesting combat scenarios, and I like to roleplay. I’m 50/50 on both, but probably more combat if I had to pick. I get itchy with too much downtime haha
I would love to play the updated Undead warlock! I played a yuan-ti pureblood undead warlock back in 5e that I had so much fun with. Acererak was her patron, and their bargain was that she would give him loot from her travels to fill his dungeons with, and he would give her power. There’s no yuan-ti in 5.5, so I figured maybe I could revamp her to be a reborn, which will have happened as part of her pact with Acererak. She’s materialistic because of her pact, always looking for something to appease her patron with. She’s evil, but she knows how to put on a kind facade to manipulate and get what she wants.
