Like flowers that bloom in spring, ideas, much like seeds, germinate in the minds of men— soon flowering and bearing the fruit of knowledge. Along with the newfound genius comes these entities, regarded as Empyreans, deities that embody what was discovered and fathered by humankind. As denizens of the realm of Kirmenmar continue to develop new technology, science, philosophy, religion, and knowledge, new Empyreans are born and walk the world. This never-ending scientific revolution sprouts deities that represent knowledge. As information reaches its peak, however, these Empyreans become stagnant while man continues to evolve and change. A desire to usurp the powers they created comes to fester like maggots in a ripened fruit, and for our folly, we will reap.
As knowledge branches out ceaselessly into the world of Kirmenmar, the genius of man triumphs over nature seemingly. Erudite across the realm gather at the metropolitan city of Rahasyaan, a hotspot for one to hone their genius, develop their craft, and seek wisdom, funding, and support from the Maharaja Vemulakonda, patron of knowledge and more commonly regarded as the herald for the Empyrean of Biology.
The veil of knowledge is thinning, however, as Domains left behind by Empyreans upon their creation spread its influence and distort the world surrounding into the unnatural. These anomalies spread and expand in their influence, as denizens of the world vanish within them, seemingly consumed by these domains— and what knowledge within them is devoured.
Rahasyaan, the city above the grasping roots, is the metropolitan capital city of the Margraiyn Concord. Nestled atop a cliff that overlooks a fjord, the once beautiful waters entangled in snaking roots and vines— the Domain that birthed the Empyrean of Biology, the Progenitor of a Thousand Roots. As the vines attempt to crawl up the colossal cliffs, the city of Rahasyaan founded the Veritas Foundation and welcomed geniuses across Kirmenmar to contain the Domain in hopes of freeing the city from the invasive vines below that seek to devour it.
Hello, interested in this premise? My name is River (23, he/him) and this is my longterm homebrew campaign that is currently looking for 1-2 players that can regularly attend Fridays at 6pm - CST weekly.
The campaign is inspired/set in a period that would be near equivalent to a Late Medieval — Early Renaissance, feudalism is nearing an end, if this helps with character building
OVERVIEW
System: 2014 D&D 5e (2024 spells/features must be checked with dm beforehand) VTT: We will be using Roll20 for maps and character sheets (D&D Beyond is okay, but a character sheet on Roll20 is also needed), please have something that can easily run Roll20 maps with dynamic lighting. Date: Fridays, weekly Time: 6-10:00pm CST
There are chances for cancellations as I tend to be busy and have events this summer but a notice will be given.
This campaign will expect an encounter every other session or where it permits, I am looking for creative players that love roleplay and creating characters that are well integrated into a lore-heavy world. I will do my best to have backstories be integrated into the world and character arcs/plot hooks in backstories could be explored across this campaign. If you are a player that likes to make conversations with the other players and NPCs, interact with the world I provide, are willing to follow a complex storyline that we are telling, and actively participate in the game, then this campaign is perfect for you! In terms of characters/players, I'm looking for characters that are capable of aligning/cooperating with the party; arguments, rivalries, and disagreements exist, but D&D is a cooperative storytelling game, and we honestly can't have that if your character isn't open to adventuring with the party.
I'm a lenient Dungeon Master and I'm open for most ideas! All I ask is that you communicate with me.
With the scope of this longterm campaign I offer downtime inbetween sessions which can be done through roleplay threads done in-text using the discord bot, Tupperbox.
HOUSE RULES
Critical Hits:Roll double dice (does not double any modifiers).
Flanking:Allowed! When a creature and at least one ally are within 5ft of the same enemy on opposite sides, that enemy is flanked. Each of the creatures flanking gains advantage on melee attacks against it. You do not gain the effects of flanking if you are also being flanked.
Opportunity Attacks:While typically D&D rules that only willing movement provokes opportunity attacks, I find it to be more fun to rule unwilling movement also does so. I think this allows players to use strategic thinking in combat when doing something that might alter an enemy’s position. However, this rule is a double edged sword, because it can also be used against you.
Healing Potions:Drinking one yourself is a bonus action, feeding one to someone else takes an action. If a player dedicates an action to drinking a healing potion, they receive full benefits (max dice).
Attack Rolls/Saving Throws:Meets it beats it. If you meet someone’s armor class, it is a successful hit. If you meet the DC of a saving throw, you succeed on the save.
Initiative:Rolling a Nat 20 on initiative lets you choose what place you'd like to take in the initiative order.
PVP:I will not allow harmful spells, attacks, or actions to be used on another player without first discussing the matter out-of-character. This also includes charm spells and attempts to steal from one another. I want all players to feel mutually respected, and so if PVP is something that feels like a natural progression of the story, please first bring it up with me and the other players involved so that everyone's thoughts can be heard and so that I can prepare accordingly.
Inspiration:I award inspiration for doing the recap, answering one of the weekly character questions, or at my discretion for doing something especially cool in game. You may only have three inspirations at a time.
CHARACTER CREATION:
Roll a 10th level character.
All published 2014 races, classes/subclasses, and backgrounds are allowed. (DM me if you would like to use homebrew or 2024 rules).
Allocate these stats however way you see fit: 18, 15, 15, 12, 10, 8
Roll ( 2d4 x 100 ) + 100 for starting gold.
Fixed HP, no encumbrance. Milestone leveling.
Tasha's rules for starting ability point bonuses.
You may start with an additional feat, choose from the following options: Actor, Alert, Athlete, Chef, Dungeon Delver, Healer, Inspiring Leader, Keen Mind, Linguist, Observant, Prodigy, Poisoner, Skill Expert, Skilled
Start with an Uncommon magic item that does not add to Spell Attack Rolls/Save DC or Weapon Attack/Damage rolls
All official and partnered content is allowed - if there's a feature/spell/etc. I don't allow I will let you know before taking it. I am open to looking over your homebrew, however I reserve the right to rebalance it if it gets too powerful. We are all here to have fun.
Detailed backstories are very welcome (more lore on the world in the discord server once you're accepted!), please package them in a neat google docs, which include:
Childhood, Adulthood
How they acquired their abilities/What makes them 10th level?
Your character's goals and fears
Your character's reason for joining the organization Veritas Foundation
Privately message me rumors about your character:
two rumors that are true, one of them a bad thing, one a good thing
two rumors that are false, doesn't matter if they are good or bad
Thank you kindly for reading everything, I really hope to play with you in my world! Please fill out this google form, and I should reach out to potential players soon. Google Form:https://forms.gle/zpVn68QARhj7jaTYA
It will require your email I believe, that's because it will give you the opportunity to edit your responses if you're not satisfied or made a mistake, and gives you a copy of your answers.
