D&D 5e Play-by-Post Campaign — Looking for Players Hello, adventurers!
I'm currently looking for a small group of enthusiastic and reliable players to join a long-term Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition campaign using a mix of the official 2014 and 2024 rules. Whether you're completely new to D&D or have years of experience rolling dice, you're more than welcome to apply. This campaign is designed to be beginner-friendly while still offering plenty of depth for experienced players who enjoy immersive storytelling and memorable character moments.
The campaign will begin at Level 3 and focuses heavily on roleplay, mystery, psychological horror, investigation, exploration, and character-driven storytelling. While combat certainly has its place, the heart of this adventure lies in uncovering secrets, interacting with NPCs, solving mysteries, and watching your characters grow through the choices they make. Every decision matters, and your actions will shape both the story and the world around you.
The adventure begins in a seemingly ordinary town whose name remains a closely guarded secret. During the day, life appears peaceful and uneventful. Merchants sell their wares, children play in the streets, and travelers come and go without concern. However, everything changes after sunset. Strange lanterns appear throughout the town, casting an eerie glow despite no one remembering who lit them. People disappear without a trace, familiar places become unsettlingly unfamiliar, whispers drift through the empty streets, and reality itself begins to fracture in ways no one can explain. The townsfolk avoid speaking about the strange happenings, and those who investigate too deeply often vanish—or return forever changed. Your party has been sent to uncover the truth behind these terrifying events before the darkness spreads beyond the town's borders. What begins as a simple investigation soon becomes a descent into forgotten secrets, ancient horrors, and mysteries that challenge not only your courage but your very perception of reality.
This campaign is intended for players who enjoy writing descriptive roleplay, collaborating with others, and becoming invested in both the world and their fellow characters. Character backstories will play an important role throughout the adventure, and I plan to weave personal stories into the main narrative whenever possible. I welcome creative ideas and enjoy rewarding players who actively engage with the world and contribute to the group's storytelling.
Characters will start at Level 3, and character creation will use a combination of official 2014 and 2024 D&D 5e content. Additional details regarding allowed sourcebooks, character creation guidelines, house rules, starting equipment, and world lore will be shared with accepted players before the campaign begins.
As this is a Play-by-Post campaign, there are no scheduled sessions. Instead, the story progresses asynchronously, allowing everyone to post when they're available. I'm looking for players who can post consistently—ideally at least once a day—and communicate if they'll be unavailable for an extended period. Real life always comes first, and good communication is all I ask.
Above all, I want to create a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment where everyone feels comfortable participating. This is an LGBTQ+ friendly campaign, and mutual respect between players is expected at all times. New players are absolutely welcome, and I'm more than happy to help anyone who is still learning the game.
If you're interested in joining, please send me a brief introduction that includes your D&D experience (if any), your time zone, your general activity level, and a character concept you'd like to play. Feel free to tell me what you enjoy most in tabletop RPGs as well—it helps me get to know what kind of stories you're excited to experience.
If you're looking for a campaign filled with suspense, mystery, meaningful roleplay, memorable characters, and a world where every answer only raises more questions, I'd love to hear from you.
The lanterns have already been lit. The only question that remains is... will you follow their light?
Hi im Marcy, she/her. I've been playing ttrpgs for nearly a decade now, dnd since 2020.
I'm in pst and generally available most days. i would let you know if I think I'll be away for a day.
I played an async pbp for about a year before the group pettered out and really enjoyed it. I love getting to know the characters and the world, while I do enjoy combat I find i prefer the collaborative storytelling parts of games far more. I love intrigue and a good mystery.
I'd like to know a bit more about what you mean by a mix of 5 and 5.5 for character creation before committing to a concept. But I tend to lean towards playing full casters and think I'd like to go a different direction next. Perhaps someone smart and inquisitive.
For a better idea of what kind of characters I like to play here's a couple of my other PC concepts:
a half vampire who was kidnapped by a zelotos religious order after they killed his parents for protecting him, they tried to raise the creature in their values never letting it out of the manor. After 30 years he found an opening to escape and is trying to figure out where he fits in the world and if he's evil or not. ( This takes place in a game where vampires although not well liked do have a kingdom and a seat at the table in the continents politics.)
A goblin who saw some adventures helping out her village when most people wouldn't, she went to catch up to them to join them for the gold and glory and ended up learning about compassion and that violence isn't always the answer. Although sometimes blowing stuff up is exactly the answer. She had a sword that talked to her and directed her at times, it turned out to be a devil who had a bet with another devil in regards to the party and was an interesting thing to navigate. ( full hexblade i gave my dm free reign on my patron, this character came in after I lost my first one and was a blast.)
I would list more but I don't want to talk you ear off.
I'm MarcyB3ar on discord I'll send you a friend request.
Hey, i'm very interested. Here's some of the info you asked for:
I've played for several years, familiar with both D&D 2014 and 2024, though i prefer 2024. I'm in the US Pacific time zone. Activity level: for PBP, i can post at least daily, and probably more when the activity and story lends itself to that. I really enjoy PBP, have been in a couple small PBP campaigns, and have had regular campaigns that have used rp chat in between regular sessions.
Character concept = soulknight rogue or a shadow or spellfire sorcerer, depending on what would work best in your campaign. The character type would probably be some type of elf or genasi. An option would be a kitsune character from a D&D partner publication called Ryoko's Guide to the Yoki Relams- there is a homebrew version in D&D beyond that is usable, completely up to you). The backstory for the character would really depend on know more about your world and what would work.
I very much enjoy story development and puzzle solving. I like creating and developing a character, interacting with other PCs and NPCs.
I've sent you a discord friend request, discord is piper_82485
Hey! I'm interested in joining, I'm still not sure exactly what type of character I'd play, but most probably a Fighter or Rogue, I think I'd want some more information on the world before I decide what to play. I've never done a play-by-post before so I'd appreciate some teachings on the topic! My timezone is PDT, and I should be pretty active unless something is going on in real life. My favorite thing about tabletop rpgs is experiencing the stories that both the DM and other players give to their characters! When it comes to actual play, I enjoy solving situations through wit and thinking outside the box. My discord is kerresft
Hello there, i like the premise you have for the campaign here's a little information about me I played d n d for about 3 and half years now, started it with 5E I have been very much integrating with 5.5 now and it's become my favorite system. And I just enjoy the roleplay and storytelling of dnd. I haven't decided what I would play yet , but I'm leaning on Paladin, Wizard or Warlock depending on the party's needs. My Timezone is CST right now , the best times I would play would be Monday or Tuesday evenings give or take depending on my work schedule. If you do have room for me , I would love to chat with you my discord is gamer_boss4.
