Hi. One of my players has recently left An Dubh-Cheò — The Black Mist, so I am looking for one person to take the open seat.
This is an established game rather than a campaign waiting to begin. We have played seven sessions, the group already knows one another, and the main investigation is now underway.
There is still most of the campaign left. I will give whoever joins a proper catch-up and work their character into the story. You will make your own character at the party’s current level. You will not be expected to take over the character belonging to the player who left.
THE IMPORTANT INFORMATION
System: D&D 5e using the 2014 rules
Schedule: Every Sunday at 3:00 am UK time
North American time: Normally Saturday at 10:00 pm Eastern or 7:00 pm Pacific
Session length: Approximately 3–4 hours
Platform: Foundry VTT and Discord
Price: $60 USD per month through Stripe
Age requirement: 18+
Campaign progress: Seven sessions completed
Openings: One
Planned length: 30 main sessions, followed by a two-session epilogue
Please check the time properly before applying. The game begins at 3:00 am UK time on Sunday, which is Saturday evening for most North American players.
The game follows UK local time. Because the UK and North America change their clocks on different dates, the conversion can temporarily shift by one hour during those periods.
WHAT IS AN DUBH-CHEÒ?
An Dubh-Cheò is a folk-horror campaign set in a fictionalised version of the 15th-century Scottish Highlands.
Names have power. Iron keeps certain things away. Rivers remember their dead. Burial mounds are left undisturbed for a reason. The Mist changes roads, distances, memories and sometimes the truth itself.
The horror is built around uncertainty rather than constant gore or cheap jumpscares.
Reliable people remember different versions of the same event. Written records disagree with living witnesses. Familiar places change when nobody is looking. Sometimes something disappears, and the most frightening part is realising that you may be the only person who remembers it existed.
Without spoiling too much, the party has reached the town of Caer Dùbhra, survived what waited around its graveyard, dealt with both the Church and the local authorities, and become involved in investigating the increasingly unnatural behaviour of the Mist.
They are now beginning to understand that the graveyard, the town’s oldest boundaries and the contradictions appearing in people’s memories may all be connected.
WHAT IS THE TABLE ACTUALLY LIKE?
The campaign is horror. The table itself is not four hours of everybody speaking solemnly and pretending to be miserable.
There is a lot of joking, swearing, strange plans and players winding one another up. When something serious happens, the players engage with it, but we still remember that this is a group of people playing D&D together.
You should be comfortable with strong language, adult humour and mature horror. You also need to know when to let another player have their moment.
The game contains roleplay, investigation, exploration and dangerous combat. There is no fixed percentage assigned to each. If the party decides to spend most of a session questioning witnesses, comparing records or trying to work out whether a road has changed, that becomes the game.
WHAT DOES THE PAYMENT COVER?
I treat this as a committed, properly prepared campaign rather than something assembled an hour before the session.
I prepare the setting, encounters, battlemaps, lighting, music, journals, artwork and NPCs in Foundry. Character histories and decisions are worked into the campaign where they naturally fit.
The campaign has a complete structure, but its outcome is not predetermined. What the party investigates, whom they trust and what they disturb will change what happens.
The price is $60 USD per month, paid through Stripe or PayPal.
WHO AM I LOOKING FOR?
I am looking for somebody who:
- Can reliably attend the Saturday-night US/Sunday-morning UK schedule - Enjoys roleplay, investigation and interacting with the world - Can share attention without disappearing or dominating the table - Is comfortable joining an established group - Understands that character decisions can have consequences - Can communicate if something is wrong or they cannot attend
You do not need to know Scottish history, speak Gaelic or attempt an accent.
You also do not need previous Foundry experience. I am willing to teach somebody who genuinely wants to participate.
This probably will not suit somebody who only wants combat, spends the entire session silently waiting for initiative, or treats every NPC as a quest marker.
HOW TO APPLY
Send me a private message containing:
- What you would like me to call you - Confirmation that you are 18+ - Your timezone - Your experience with D&D and online play - What you normally enjoy most in a campaign - A rough character idea, if you have one - Confirmation that the schedule and $60 monthly payment work for you - Anything you would not want included in a horror campaign
It does not need to be an essay. I just need more than “interested.”
I will speak with applicants before deciding. This is not first come, first served. Finding somebody who will genuinely work with the existing group matters more than filling the seat immediately.
Questions are welcome in the comments, but please send applications privately.
