This is a playtest for Lost Mine of Phandelver. If your application is accepted you will be a part of the first group to set the baseline for this world from start to finish. Help me polish this adventure and your characters may just be immortalized in some way. Roll20 link: https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/449808/lost-mine-of-phandelver
Expectations: - 4 or 5 players - Starting at level 4, playing from levels 4-9 (its normally designed for 1-5) - Aiming for Monday Sept 14th (6:30PM, PST) with an optional 'Session Zero' Monday Sept 7th if applications fill fast - 1 Free roll of stats, 4d6 drop the lowest, otherwise pointbuy (Please declare it in Roll20 chat) - Vanilla Forgotten Realms Dnd (mostly using rules from 5.5e, 5e classes and the like are allowed)- Open to a 5e rules playthrough, applications will determine. - Focus on questing and combat (think Tactician level difficulty) - Aiming for 20 sessions (with distant options to get into DoIP or ToA. Shattered Obelisk was considered but not my style) - For character backstories you will be assigned secrets (as seen in the adventure IDRotFM) but I am flexible here. - Downtime, IC conversations, shopping, etc will be encouraged over discord and less in game. - Possible monster card game if I have time. (Defeat a monster, gain their card, cards can lvl up, play NPCs for keeps, etc.)
- No players under 18 - No homebrew or Unearthed Arcana. - No primarily evil characters at the start (may revisit this as the campaign progresses) - Most books are allowed (list in discord)
If you have a question about some popular combos (shepherd druid, coffeelock, conjure woodland beings, etc) I am flexible If you have a question about some item combos (bag of beans, equipping a familiar, illusionist bracers, etc) feel free to ask Write Gygax in your application so I can see you read this.
Some brief homebrew rules: - Level ups by milestones - Flanking, but only for Rogues - Anyone can grapple on an op attack, including enemies - Rest casting ok, but incurs 1 lvl of special exhaustion that cant be mitigated till next longrest - Cant benefit from a full rest in armor (unless Warforged or Autognome, etc) - 2 of the 8hrs rest can be done awake, however, staying awake in camp requires Con check - Starting gold may be rolled once in Roll20 chat. - Inspiration has ways of being earned (see discord) - Write the name 'Greenwood' in your application for free inspiration. - You may sell unneeded items at half price but need to wait till in game to buy stuff, initially. - Death saves are rolled in private (But, characters 5ft away can make a free medicine check [DC 12]) - Characters preforming help action requires proficiency for the respective ability check. - We will try not to dogpile skill checks, but I may ask multiple characters for the same check - Druids can equip metal - Using surprised condition from 2024 - Orc NPCs are evil bc Grummsh said so, Halforcs can be any alignment (players can still play anything with any alignment) - S, M component discrepancy mostly ignored if you have a spell focus. V components can be no quieter than a 'chant'
About me: -Around 2000hrs experience, with limited one-shot GMing -Completed LMoP, SO, ToA, OOtA, DoIP, WDH -Heavily played in SKT, Planescape, IDRotFM, DragonLance, Scarlet Citadel, BG3 800hrs+

Exploration, Combat, Pushing buttons, Roleplay, Builds, something else? mixed -Your character dies mid-campaign in an average way, would it be a dealbreaker to reroll? nope -You understand we start at level 4, and this is a full playtest of an adventure by a new GM? ok -Describe your favorite scene(s) from a Dnd game or similar genre. I like Ravenloft, Dragonlance, and the Forgotten Realms most -Choose 2 items (up to rare) you would like to see in the game (I will likely pick 1, no promises) I suppose that depends entirely on what class I play :) Thinking of playing a wizard. Perhaps elven chain or a cloak of protection? -Do you have anything youd like to cross off a bucketlist? play and finish the whole Curse of Strahd campaign. Then I'll be free to DM it.
I have not played Lost Mine of Phandelver, I think.
I should be able to. I tend to get off of work around 2pm, Mst
I have about 3 years of DnD experience but on and off so its more like a few months. I have never DMed before.
I don't mind RP or combat. I'm okay with either.
I don't mind the rules either. 5e or 5.5e, doesn't really matter to me.
I don't have a preference.
It would not be a dealbreaker. I wouldn't mind making a new character if I have to.
I do understand that we start at level 4.
I don't really have a favorite scene yet.
I don't mind the items. Any is okay with me.
UUUUhhh. I have always wanted one of my characters to fall in love with another character or another player's character is possible.
HHHHHHmmmmmm. I don't know if you would accept Vulpins because they come from the humble wood book and they weren't made by wotc. But, uuuuhhhhh, a vulpin, Rusty, Rogue, ant feats that deal with dex, and for background, he was a cub who was raised in a small cave by his parents, learning to be fast and light on his feet in order to hunt for food. One day, he lost his parents in a brutal attack and had set out to find the killer by any means necessary.
-Age: 32 -Gender: Male -Discord name: zackisnotwhack -Have you played Lost Mine of Phandelver before?: DM'd the intro, but never played the entire module. -Can you commit to the Monday schedule and is your internet stable? Yes and yes. -Are you able to do a ‘Session Zero’ this Monday (Sept 7) if enough players are accepted by then?: Unfortunately no since that date has passed. -What is your dnd experience and what adventures have you played or DMed? I have a far bit of experience as a player under my belt, but very little DM experience. -Ideal RP to Combat ratio?: I greatly prefer combat, A good 33% rp and 67% combat would be my preference. -Do you prefer 5e or the new 5.5e rules? I'm flexible, though I have more experience with 5e. -Do you have a preference? Exploration, Combat, Pushing buttons, Roleplay, Builds, something else?: Combat and builds are my preference, though emploration and roleplay would be my runner ups. Creating a business is always fun, though I don't think it would fit in this module. -Your character dies mid-campaign in an average way, would it be a dealbreaker to reroll?: Reroll. -You understand we start at level 4, and this is a full playtest of an adventure by a new GM?: Yes, I fully understand. -Describe your favorite scene(s) from a Dnd game or similar genre.: My favorite scenes are the reversal of fate style situations. Things seemingly lost/hopeless only for them to be turned around. Makes everyone feel good. -Choose 2 items (up to rare) you would like to see in the game (I will likely pick 1, no promises): I prefer low-level magical items, a decent +1 weapon or equivalent and a wonderous item like an Ever Smoking Bottle of Bag of Tricks. -Do you have anything you'd like to cross off a bucket list? I try to face every campaign as unique situations and tend to change the bucket list to what is happening in said campaign at the time. (IE: finish a specific campaign, acquire a legendary/artifact, seduce a dragon, destroy a god’s avatar, become immortal, defeat Godzilla, escape hell, obtain the wish spell, take over the world, meet a place/character from pop media (Drizzt, Themberchaud, Elminster, Baldur’s Gate, etc), pull off a heist, etc)
-Give me a Sample Character (or 2 if you like): I tend to lean towards humans for versatility, but open to other races depending on what's available.
Human Range/Rogue Always a bit of a nuisance as a kid, running off rom his parents, getting into trouble with the locals, stealing paltry things to get a rise out of people, it was a given he'd grow up to become a rogue. While favoring a bow and finding his place of comfort in the wilderness, he began feeling at one with nature, developing a kinship with the 'natural order' of things, leaning further away from the society that he never quite fit into, but never wanted to separate himself from. Name / Species / Background / Feats / Description
