Hey all! Looking for a few players to add to a 5.5 campaign, we play on dnd beyond and discord We meet monday nights 7pm EST and play for about 3-4 hours. Looking for players who are good with a homebrewed story set in Faerun. Ideally there will be lots of interparty roleplay. Medieval fantasy/some dark fantasy settings (nothing too crazy though haha) 18+ experienced players prefered
Centuries ago, a powerful wizard lost her child and became consumed with finding a way to bring him back. Her search reached beyond the gods and the boundaries of reality itself, where something answered her grief: an ancient entity that would become known as the Wanting One.
The entity returned her child, or at least convinced her that it had. In return, she became the Pale Mother, its first and most devoted follower, opening the way for the Wanting One to enter the world. Around her grew the Church of the First Purpose, a faith devoted to the belief that suffering comes from humanity's countless competing loyalties, gods, and ambitions. The Wanting One offered a simpler existence: one faith, one purpose, and eventually, one will.
Its growing influence became dangerous enough that gods, fiends, archfey, and other ancient powers united against it. With the help of a mysterious figure known as the Examiner, the Wanting One was ultimately imprisoned and its church seemingly destroyed.
Centuries later, the old faith has returned under a new name: the Society of the Open Hand.
The players become caught in its resurgence without initially realizing what they are facing. Their adventures lead them through forgotten ruins, strange religious movements, ancient trials, and encounters with remnants of the Wanting One's first rise. Allies may secretly serve the Society, enemies may know pieces of the truth, and some of the party's victories may unknowingly further the cult's plans.
As they uncover the history of the Examiner, the Pale Mother, and the creatures known as the Forgotten, they gradually discover that the Wanting One was never simply trying to conquer the world.
It wants to become the world's only source of purpose.
The campaign ultimately becomes a struggle not just to prevent the Wanting One's return, but to preserve the ability of every person to choose what they believe in, whom they love, and what gives their life meaning.
Very interesting premise, I recently replayed Pillars of Eternity 1, loved it's take on theology, and your campaign gives me similar vibes though I do have some more questions. Could you let me know what is the best way to ask i.e. on this thread or in private e.g. discord etc.
