Combat: Enjoy it when story-driven; prefer it not to be the default solution to every encounter
Rules: Rules-respecting but creativity-friendly; consistent, logical rulings over strict rules-lawyering or unrestricted “rule of cool”
Looking for: A friendly, consistent group invested in the world, story, and each other’s characters
I'm based in the UK, and looking for a long-term D&D group to join. Ideally, I'd love to find a weekend game, preferably in the evenings (UK time), although I can be flexible with scheduling. I'd prefer the 2024 ruleset, but I'm absolutely open to 2014 5e as well. I'm also more than happy to join an ongoing campaign if there's room for another player!
A little about me and what I'm looking for:
I've been interested in D&D for years, primarily through watching and listening to actual-play campaigns such as Critical Role, High Rollers, Dungeons & Daddies and others. While most of my experience comes from actual plays rather than extensive time at the table, I've developed a real love for collaborative storytelling, character development and the wonderfully, unpredictable stories that emerge when a group of people get together and start rolling dice.
I'm particularly interested in roleplay-first, narrative-driven campaigns where the world feels alive, characters have agency, and the story develops organically through our decisions.
I love the idea of getting invested in a character, forming relationships with other party members and NPCs, exploring their motivations, and watching the consequences of our actions shape the world around us. I'm equally interested in the quieter moments between adventures as I am in the big, dramatic ones.
Combat is absolutely welcome! I'm just looking for a campaign where it serves the story rather than being the default resolution to every encounter. I love the idea that a tense confrontation could become a negotiation, an unlikely friendship, a narrow escape or an absolutely disastrous fight, depending on what happens at the table.
Essentially, I want a game where we discover what happens rather than simply move from one encounter to the next.
In terms of rules and playstyle:
I enjoy a balance between respecting the rules and encouraging creativity. I'm not particularly interested in excessive rules-lawyering, but I'm also not looking for a game where anything goes simply because it sounds cool.
I appreciate consistent, logical rulings that respect the game's mechanics while leaving room for creative problem-solving and unconventional uses of spells, abilities and the environment.
For me, the rules should provide a consistent foundation that makes creative decisions meaningful, rather than either restricting every imaginative idea or being discarded whenever something exciting comes along.
I'm also very happy to learn, take feedback and get more comfortable with the mechanics as I play.
Ultimately, I'm looking for a group of people who genuinely enjoy telling a story together. People who get invested in each other's characters, embrace unexpected developments, enjoy a good laugh and are just as excited about the journey as they are about their own character's individual story.
I'd love to find a friendly, consistent group where I can settle in, make some friends and hopefully share an amazing campaign over the months (or years!) to come.
If that sounds like your table, I'd love to hear from you. Feel free to send me a message, my discord is atrxyuu.
