Game: D&D 5e (2014) Group type: Online Experience: Any Location/Timezone: Eastern Timezone Schedule: Monday 7PM - 11PM Eastern (May be open to change) Roles sought: 2-3 Players. Game style: Heavy roleplay, serious tone. Combat is frequent but not guaranteed.
Looking for 2-3 players to join an ongoing Tier 4 campaign set in Exandria. 5e 2014 rules. We play on Monday at 7 PM - 11 PM Eastern. The schedule may change if needed, but there are currently no plans to do so. 18+ only. Current ages are 40s and one late 20s. Preference will be given to players in that range to try to match our current energy. Origin of the campaign was continuing on with a couple characters from a Call of the Netherdeep campaign. Current story continues some threads from that module, but is entirely homebrewed. And while it is set in Exandria, its best to hold on to your knowledge of the setting loosely as we’ve also made some changes and likely will make more as time goes on. We originally just started with just 2 players and me DMing. We added another player a few months back, but then one of the original players left. I didn’t look to increase player count because I was/am a neophyte DM and 3 players was more than enough. However, its been over a year since we started now, and we’d like to have more people at the table.
We’re a very roleplay heavy table. There is combat, but its not the focus and we’ll sometimes go several sessions without any. I also applaud and encourage players when they can subvert or avoid a planned combat through other methods. The themes of the campaign lean heavily into Heroic, but with some elements of gritty. I try to make the world react and respond to the choices the party makes. Consequences can be good, bad, or otherwise, depending.
While there is a definite “BBEG” and exigent threat, how the party chooses to handle it is left up to them. My approach for both story and encounters is “I create the problems, you create the solutions.” That said, I will offer road signs if it seems the party is floundering and would like a nudge.
I’m a big fan of characters and try to live by the rule of “Be a fan of the player characters” and my effort is always to make sure they are the protagonists of the story. I normally make a great effort to incorporate character stories into things, but with as advanced as the campaign is (they’re currently lvl 16, probably 17 soonish), there may or may not be a lot of bandwidth. We generally stick to Rules As Written, though have a number of house rules we use. I believe the constraints the rules create are important for balance as well as maintaining threat. However, if ideas and suggestions are made in good faith, I’ll generally help find a way to roll with it. For example, recently the party had one of the characters take a potion of gaseous form so they could hide in a bag of holding while the other character carried them out of danger. However, we did keep track of how long they were in there, as we ruled it they couldn’t breathe and had to hold their breath.
Attitude and tone of the table is on the serious side. Definitely more Star Trek with a hint of Star Wars, instead of Spaceballs, but we can also engage in shenanigans when it happens in the moment. But Joke or Meme characters need not apply.
LGBTQ+ friendly is required. Ideally, we’d love to find players who are willing to invest in the world and their characters. I’m the type to say when it comes to a character’s backstory, more is better. You give me 40 pages, I’ll read 40 pages. But the primary questions I ask players to think about is: Why is your character doing this? Where do they come from? What do they care about? And what do YOU as a player, want to get out of them? We use Foundry for the VTT, and DND Beyond for the Character sheets, but honestly, you can use the sheet builder in Foundry instead. We use Discord for chat, Webcam preferred but not required. If you’re interested, please send me a message about yourself and ideas you have for characters. While we want to fill out the table more, we also want to make sure it's a good fit, so we’re not wasting your time as well as our own.
