Tavern Tales of Vice and Dice - Recruiting Dedicated Players!
[FREE] [18+] [ONLINE] [Eastern Time] [LFP] - 3 Primary Campaigns + Optional Activities!
🍻 Who Are We?
Tavern Tales of Vice and Dice is a NEW, completely FREE, 18+ TTRPG Discord community operated by two experienced Admin/GMs with decades of tabletop gaming experience.
We previously hosted active campaigns on another Discord server. However, due to differences in philosophy regarding Pay-to-Play versus Free-to-Play gaming, we decided to go our separate way and establish our own community.
Our philosophy is simple: Good tabletop gaming shouldn't require a price tag.
Our new server is fully established, organized, and ready to go, with three primary campaigns and two additional activities for our members!
⚔️ What Games Do We Offer?
1. Science Fiction Adventure
An original homebrew sci-fi tabletop experience involving specialized teams traveling to unfamiliar worlds, encountering dangerous threats, recovering technology, and completing unique missions. Expect exploration, combat, teamwork, and unexpected challenges.
Recruitment: Up to 5 players per group, with 2 separate groups planned (A and B). Up to 10 players total.
2. Dark/Evil Fantasy
An evil-aligned, long-running dark fantasy D&D campaign blending horror, mystery, exploration, political intrigue, and villainous adventure. Players will encounter disturbing discoveries, ancient mysteries, rival powers, betrayal, dangerous entities, and morally ambiguous decisions with lasting consequences.
Characters may pursue personal ambitions, power, and conflicting loyalties while working together to shape their legacies. This is a mature 18+ campaign featuring dark themes, violence, cruelty, psychological horror, and other unsettling subject matter. Cooperation between players is still expected regardless of character alignment.
Recruitment: Up to 6 players per group, with 2 separate groups planned (A and B). Up to 12 players total.
3. A Digging Adventure
An original homebrew adventure centered around digging, exploration, and discovering what lies beneath. Sometimes the greatest adventures aren't about reaching the top of a mountain, but finding out what's buried underneath it!
Recruitment: 4-6 players per group, with up to 2 groups possible (A and B). 8-12 players total if both groups are formed. Depending on applicant interest, sessions may run weekly or every other weekend.
🎭 Additional Member Activities
4. PvP Combat Arena
A combat-focused environment where players can challenge one another, test character builds, experiment with strategies, and enjoy Player vs. Player combat.
This is an optional activity that does NOT require a GM to run. Players can arrange their own battles, provided everyone involved willingly consents to the PvP encounter and follows the established rules.
5. Adults-Only Play-by-Post (PBP)
We also offer a separate, optional 18+ text-based roleplaying experience involving mature, sexual, and intimate themes between consenting adults.
IMPORTANT: THIS IS NOT AN OPEN RECRUITMENT GAME!
This activity is available ONLY to members who are already actively participating in one of our three primary campaigns: Science Fiction, Dark/Evil Fantasy, or the Digging Adventure.
You CANNOT join our server solely to participate in the adult PBP game. Applicants must first qualify for, join, and actively participate in one of our three primary campaigns.
Participation in the adult PBP is 100% voluntary, and nobody is expected or required to participate.
📅 When Do We Play?
Time Zone: Eastern Time (EST/EDT)
Our primary Saturday campaigns operate on alternating weekends, with separate A and B groups allowing applicants to choose the schedule that works best for them.
Weekend A - Saturday
9:00 AM - 1:00 PM (occasionally 2:00 PM): Science Fiction - Group A
2:00 PM - 6:00 PM (or until the session ends): Dark/Evil Fantasy - Group A
Weekend B - Saturday
9:00 AM - 1:00 PM (occasionally 2:00 PM): Dark/Evil Fantasy - Group B
2:00 PM - 6:00 PM (or until the session ends): Science Fiction - Group B
The weekends alternate continuously: A, B, A, B, etc.
Each group follows its assigned weekend, giving players different morning and afternoon options while accommodating varying schedules and time zones.
Friday Evenings - Digging Adventure
6:00 PM - 9:00 PM (or until the session ends)
Group A and/or Group B, depending on recruitment.
Sessions may be scheduled every Friday or on alternating Fridays, depending on how many qualified applicants join.
We would ideally like one primary group to be geared more toward newer players and another toward experienced veterans, but this is NOT a requirement. Dedication and compatibility matter more than experience.
🎮 Required Platforms
All players must have access to:
Discord - Voice communication and community interaction.
D&D Beyond - Character sheets and dice rolling.
Roll20 - Virtual tabletop, maps, and token control.
All three platforms are required for our primary live games. Free accounts are sufficient!
📜 Who Are We Looking For?
We're seeking HARDCORE, LONG-TERM, DEDICATED tabletop players!
Our goal is to establish a community of people who want to spend 1-3+ YEARS adventuring together, developing their characters, building stories, and genuinely investing themselves in their campaigns.
We're NOT looking for temporary players, casual drop-ins, or people who join a Discord server just to disappear a week later.
Our ideal players:
Are 18 years of age or older.
Are seeking a serious, long-term commitment of 1-3+ years to regular tabletop gaming.
Can consistently attend their chosen group's scheduled weekly or alternating-weekend sessions.
Enjoy immersive roleplay, combat, exploration, character development, and storytelling.
Respect their fellow players, GMs, and established campaign rules.
Are NOT rules lawyers. Questions and discussions are welcome, but we aren't interested in spending game sessions arguing over rulings. The GM has the final say at their table.
Take responsibility for preparing their characters, staying informed, and participating between sessions.
Value communication, reliability, maturity, and teamwork.
Want to help establish a lasting community rather than simply add another Discord server to their collection.
New players and experienced veterans are BOTH welcome!
You don't need 20 years of experience to be a dedicated player. We're happy to help new players learn, provided they're willing to put in the effort!
We understand that real life happens. Jobs, families, emergencies, and other obligations come first. We aren't asking anyone to sacrifice their personal lives for D&D.
We're asking for commitment, communication, consistency, and respect for everyone else's time.
If you're looking for a casual game you might attend whenever you feel like it, our community probably isn't the right fit. If you're looking for a table to call home for years to come, we'd love to hear from you!
Interested in Becoming a GM?
While our current campaigns are hosted by the two Admin/GMs, we're also open to expanding our selection of games in the future!
If an established community member eventually decides they'd like to run their own campaign, we're happy to allow additional GMs to host games within our server, provided they follow our community rules and GM expectations.
We'd love to see our community eventually offer even more adventures and opportunities for everyone involved!
🚪 Our Three-Step Vetting Process
We have a structured application process to ensure new members understand our expectations and are a good fit for our tables.
Step 1 - Rules & Knowledge Check
Applicants review our 15-section server rules and complete a 20-question, open-book questionnaire demonstrating their understanding of the community's expectations.
Step 2 - The Interview
A conversation with two Admins to discuss gaming experience, scheduling, campaign interests, expectations, and whether our community would be a good fit.
Step 3 - Introductory One-Shot
Applicants who pass the first two steps enter a limited-access section of our Discord server and participate in a short, one-on-one introductory adventure with a GM.
This gives both parties an opportunity to experience each other's playstyles before committing to a regular campaign.
Successful applicants receive access to their respective games and the wider community!

Tavern Tales of Vice and Dice
Bring your imagination. Bring your dice and trauma. Leave the drama at the door.
Your age (18+ required). I am 20 years old turning 21 in February
Your time zone and Friday/Saturday availability. I am in EST. Friday's I am typically available all day morning to night as for Saturday's I am available in the earlier parts of the day with a cut off around 7pm
Your tabletop gaming experience. I have played 5e ever since I was in 7th grade and have been in multiple campaigns with both the 2014 and 2024 rulesets. I also have some experience with dagger heart as my other group has switched from 5e to dagger heart
Which of our three primary campaigns interests you. I am interested in the Dark/evil fantasy campaign
Your preferred group or time slot (A or B). I would prefer group B as it aligns with my time best
Whether you're genuinely interested in a long-term campaign lasting potentially several years. I love long spanning campaigns, I will go out of my way to find a long term campaign even if a short term one is available because I believe it gives more time to acclimate to your fellow players and really experience the world you are in.
Your age: 37
Your time zone and Friday/Saturday availability: CST
Your tabletop gaming experience: Aside from board games in general, we did a Star Wars 5e campaign for around a year (it went on hiatus after a couple in the group had a baby). We played here and there before that and did a couple short ones using 2014 5e. Since it was a little sporadic, I am definitely still in the noobie category.
Which of our three primary campaigns interests you: Science Fiction Adventure
Your preferred group or time slot (A or B): B
Whether you're genuinely interested in a long-term campaign lasting potentially several years: Yes, I really want to experience it with a group that meets regularly. I think it would make the experience a lot better. And I am sure the story would just get more engaging as time goes on.
