Ghosts of Saltmarsh and Call from the Deep campaign
I'm looking for two players to join our ongoing, long term D&D campaign set in the Forgotten Realms. Expect immersive roleplay, dangerous combat, memorable characters and a story that can grow far beyond the usual adventure.
We're an established group looking to welcome two new adventurers into the party. If you enjoy classic fantasy, collaborative storytelling and combat where your decisions genuinely matter, this might be the game for you.
🕒 Session Details
Day: Sunday
Time: 8 pm UK time, London
Duration: Approximately 4 hours
Platform: Foundry VTT
Cost: Completely free
Group: We have an established group of American and European players. We enjoy fantasy, roleplay and a bit of out of game chat alongside the adventure.
Regular weekly attendance is important to us. Holidays, family commitments and the occasional missed session are completely understandable, but we're looking for players who can make the game a consistent part of their routine.
🐉 About Me as a DM
I'm an experienced DM who has completed several campaigns, including Tyranny of Dragons, Lost Mine of Phandelver, Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen and Dreams of the Red Wizards.
I've been playing with my current group for years, and I genuinely enjoy creating adventures that bring characters and worlds to life.
I love old school fantasy, meaningful character interactions, dangerous encounters and stories where player decisions have lasting consequences. I'm not a rules lawyer. I see the rules as a framework for telling a good story, and I'm happy to be flexible when it makes sense.
My biggest satisfaction as a DM is creating memorable moments and watching a story develop in unexpected directions because of the players' choices.
🌊 The Campaign
The campaign is a long nautical adventure on the Sword Coast, built from Ghosts of Saltmarsh and Call from the Deep. It starts in Saltmarsh, a small fishing town with a smuggling problem and a divided council. From there it grows into a voyage up and down the coast, through Neverwinter, Baldur's Gate, Waterdeep, Luskan and the pirate islands beyond, as the party uncovers something stirring beneath the waves. Expect your own ship and crew, sea battles, haunted wrecks, flooded ruins, intrigue in port towns and the peoples of the deep, some of whom might become allies. The choices you make will come back to help or haunt you. So far, the party has cleared out a smugglers' den, captured their ship and survived a night aboard a ship of the dead. Now they are deep in a lizardfolk lair, trying to turn an uneasy truce into an alliance.
The campaign takes place in the Forgotten Realms, with inspiration from Ghosts of Saltmarsh and Call from the Deep. I've built a flexible campaign framework with plenty of room for expansion, player driven stories and unexpected developments.
To give you an idea of the preparation behind it, I currently have:
• More than 60 maps prepared.
• Around 300 NPCs to meet, befriend, antagonise or regret crossing.
• Hundreds of magic items to discover.
• A collection of additional adventures ready to introduce when the story calls for them.
The campaign combines published adventures with my own additions and ideas. I have a wider framework prepared, but the story isn't set in stone. Your characters, decisions and relationships will help shape where the adventure goes next.
I also use VOICEMOD and attempt a few different accents to bring NPCs to life. I'm no professional voice actor, but I enjoy making the world feel alive!
⚔️ What to Expect
Roleplay and combat in equal measure. I enjoy character development, party interactions and a good story, but I also want combat to feel dangerous and victories to be earned.
Encounters can be tactical, challenging and occasionally deadly. Not every fight is designed to be won by charging straight in, and sometimes retreat is the smartest decision. Character death is a real possibility, including a total party kill if things go badly enough.
I'm not particularly puzzle focused, although I'm happy to introduce puzzles when they fit the adventure.
I want to challenge players without taking away their agency. You will have meaningful choices, opportunities to think creatively and the freedom to approach situations in your own way. There are consequences for reckless decisions, but clever plans and teamwork can make all the difference.
This isn't a campaign where every encounter is balanced around an easy victory. Think carefully, work together and don't underestimate your enemies.
And my motto? Never split the party!
🧙 The Current Party
You'll be joining three established characters:
• A male tiefling Mystic with psionic abilities.
• A 6'2" female half elf and human Fighter wielding a two handed sword.
• An Aarakocra Druid.
I'm looking for two characters who can become part of this group naturally, contribute to its dynamics and help shape the direction of the story.
You don't need to create the most powerful character possible or optimise every ability. A character with an interesting personality, clear motivations and a reason to work with the group is far more valuable to me than a build designed purely to maximise damage.
🤝 Who I'm Looking For
Personality and teamwork matter more to me than building the perfect character.
I'm looking for players who:
• Enjoy interacting with other characters and the world around them.
• Work with the party rather than trying to be the lone hero or the main character.
• Enjoy both roleplay and challenging combat.
• Respect other players and are happy to share the spotlight.
• Accept that failure and character death are possible.
• Want to develop their characters over time and commit to a long term campaign.
You don't need years of experience or exceptional roleplaying skills. New players are welcome! Bring enthusiasm, creativity, a willingness to collaborate and a character who has a reason to be part of the adventure.
Consistency matters, though. I'm a father to a young boy and balance D&D with work and family myself, so I understand that real life comes first sometimes. Holidays and occasional absences are fine, but I'm looking for people who can attend regularly rather than treating the game as something to join whenever they happen to be free.
🎨 A Little About Me Outside D&D
When I'm not DMing, together with my we are raising a little boy, I also painting miniatures, travel, cycle and craft marketing strategies and campaigns for living.
D&D is one of my favourite creative outlets. I enjoy building worlds, developing characters and creating situations where the players can surprise me just as much as I can surprise them.
I put a lot of time and effort into preparing the campaign, but I also want the game to be enjoyable for everyone. I'm here for the long haul and would love to build a group that enjoys spending time together, both during the adventure and in the conversations around it.
📝 Practical Details
Foundry VTT: The game runs on Foundry. I can import your character, and I also have a character creation module available if you'd prefer to build one there.
D&D Beyond: I don't provide a D&D Beyond subscription, so you'll need your own access if you want to use its character tools. Alternatively, you can create your character directly in Foundry.
Character options: Ideally, let me know what sort of character you're thinking of playing when you get in touch. You don't need a fully developed concept yet. We can discuss your ideas and how they might fit into the party and the campaign.

I'm interested in finding players who want to become part of an established group and help create a memorable story together, not just fill an empty seat. The game will take more than a year to finish so it's a really long term commitment.
If you're looking for a long term adventure with a living world, meaningful roleplay, dangerous combat and a DM who genuinely enjoys building stories with his players, I'd love to hear from you.
Hey im interested. Ive been playing D&D for a couple years and always wanted to do a pirate campaign. I do have to ask tho, is this campaign include 2024 rules or is it strictly 2014 5e?
My name is Sephie, I am an American undergraduate in college majoring in psychology and vocal performance with a minor in music technology. I have been playing DnD for a few years now but have only been a part of two long-term campaigns, one of which was just canceled permanently which is why I am looking to pick up another one. I've been playing in my other campaign for about 6 months now and we have stayed very consistent. Although I have been playing longer than your average "beginner" player, I still have a lot to learn. I enjoy the roleplay and combat of DnD and am looking for a party who likes to have a laugh here and there but keep the plot moving seriously. For a character for this campaign, I have a couple of ideas but nothing solid in mind yet. I love playing bards but I am currently playing one in my other campaign and would like to experiment with different classes. I am thinking artificer, ranger, paladin, or cleric!
Hi Jarek, I also am very interested in this setting! Sounds like you guys have a lot of fun and as far as you described a players influence on the environment, that is exactly what I am looking for. I have been playing and watching DnD for about 8 years now although at times more frequent than currently. I have DMed two campaigns and played 3 so far and the most important thing for me always was for a character to make sense in a setting. I like to feel like a part of the world my character is in. To that extent, exploring the party members backstories and ties to the world is just as cool!
I am not too sure about what kind of character I would like to play, it could really go either way, wizard to fighter. I think that would be easier to shape out when I have some ideas for the character backstory.
I would love to hear from you, my discord is
