It encompasses over 750,000 square miles of territory and is home to nearly forty million citizens, not one but who owes fealty to the Emperor in Ragos. Forty million people living out their lives under the crimson and gold, sharing the same customs, the same language, the same religion, all semblance of dissent ruthlessly quashed under the iron-shod boots of the Inquisition. But it was not always so.
Ten years ago, a last alliance of rag-tag rebels formed. Calling themselves the Grey Rebellion, they chose to stand against the Imperials’ conquest of their lands, seeking to wage a guerrilla war of attrition against the vastly superior armies of Ragesia.
Look back with me to the time when a handful of rebels stood against the might of the world itself, to ten years ago, deep in the mountains. Our story begins with a small band of soldiers called “Alpha Company.” Sent to reconnoiter troop positions and meet with a woman named Torrent who has vital military intelligence, you encountered a clutch of Wyverns and barely escaped with your lives. Your sergeant wasn’t so lucky. He lies at your feet, talon marks on his neck, life’s blood spilled there beneath a spreading oak tree.
The night is cool and clear, not a cloud in the sky, and you can feel the chill of winter on the air. Stars twinkle overhead and all around you, you can hear the sounds of the forest sleeping. You smell honeysuckle and pine needles mingled with the coppery scent of the sergeant’s blood and the rich tang of his sweat. In the distance the lonely cry of a coyote rolls out over the forest, drawing your eyes up to the full moon overhead.
You’ve made it to Gatepass and have a bit of time before your meeting with Torrent is set to commence. The mission lies before you. What do you want to do?
Hello Friends!
I am a DM looking to recruit some adventurers to go through a really cool module. I tried running this campaign a few months ago and it went well for a while but for multiple reasons, it fell through. I would like to try it again but finish it through this time. I already posted this on the fantasy grounds LFG forum and i thought I would here as well. Let me know if you are interested.
Campaign Name: The War of the Burning Sky
RPG System: D&D Fifth Edition played on Fantasy Grounds (I have an ultimate license so it will not cost you a thing)
Campaign Genre: Fantasy.
Campaign Style: I am a lover of stories, so that will always be my focus, but I do enjoy encounters. And by encounters, I don’t mean every one of them will be a combat. Could be puzzles, RP or anything in between. I do my best to make encounters challenging and fun with multiple ways to surpass them. But it all comes down to the players If you want a hack and slash type of game I can do that, if you want 60/40 RP to combat I can do that too.
Number Of Players: I’m looking for 4-5 players.
Logistics: This will be a Voice game, facilitated through discord or Teamspeak.
Time & Day: montain time.Sessions will be 3-4 hours and could go longer depending on whether or not we are at a good stopping point. While the actual day and time is open to a mutually agreeable decision of the final Group. Since my work schedule is kind of all over the place at the moment, the first few sessions may be a bit random until I can get a more stable work situation.
Player Preferences: I have no preference as to Gender or age so long as you are (relatively) mature I don’t really mind. However, I do prefer people who will be both invested in their character and in the story. If you’re a “power Gamer”, “munchinkin” or anyone who’s objective is to “win” or “beat” the game, or to make the most powerful character you can by cheating the rules, then I am not the DM for you.
Language: English
Expected Commencement Date: Depending upon responses I expect to start sometime pretty soon, but I am prepared to take as long as it does to find the right people.
Expectations: I expect this Campaign to run for quite a while. Long enough for characters to grow, and evolve and to play out the story whichever way the players take it. If you’re looking for a one-off or a short series of games then this is NOT the game for you. I expect the Players to commit to the possibility of a long campaign, hence the detailed recruitment. Now, life changes and things happen, so while I expect you to commit to the Campaign I also realize that sometimes unforeseen events occur, so if you need to miss a session or two then we’ll accommodate you by rearranging the schedule or postponing the session, but only when you give some notice or in the case of an emergency. I don’t even mind if you feel the need to drop-out, as long as you let me know in advance and, at the very least, genuinely start the Campaign with the intention to “see it through.” In exchange for all this you can expect a committed GM who will do his very best to provide you with a great Campaign full of intrigue, mystery, heroics and danger. You can also expect a regular game with as few interruptions to the gaming schedule and Group as possible. All the adventures are available on the Internet: resist the temptation to “look ahead;” you’ll only spoil things for yourself and your fellow gamers.
Hey I’m very interested! I want to gain a bit more knowledge and experience with d&d and this seems like a good place, if you don’t mind new characters. I don’t mind the long sessions, it just means that it’ll be more fun. I do have a few characters I want to try and bust out, but one of them I’ll have to pm or run through by you since a friend of mine said I had to talk to the dm to see if it was fine with them or not. It’s not an op character, it’s more of a background of the character that they would have to approve. Hopefully you choose me to be part of the campaign, I know I can bring in a lot of elements of fun to it.
Like many other new fans of DnD, I became enthralled with the game after watching Critical Role. Despite wanting to play myself, my nerves often got in the way. Until now! I want to start playing to get a feel for the fun and adventure and to get out of my shell a bit. I like the aspect of role-playing and immersing myself in these fantasy worlds . I absolutely love the story/character part to DnD and I'm a real sucker for character development and getting emotionally attached to the game... Almost more than the combat itself!
This sounds like a really interesting campaign that really catches my interest! If you don't mind having a newbie along, I'd love to join!
As for characters, I have a few basic ones. Of course, once I learn more about the world they'll be living in, I can further develop and link them to the lore and jazz. Want to make sure they're very well developed for maximum intrigue/payoff!
If you need to know anything else, feel free to pm me! Thanks!
This sounds like a pretty fun campaign so I'd like to put my hat into the ring. I do have all the DnDBeyond material which anyone I'm in a campaign with would have access to (great for character building as well as a resource). Mon-Wed after 7pm'ish Pacific/California would be ideal although if your schedule is all over the place I would do my best to reasonably accommodate. I do host a face to face game Sundays so I'm fairly familiar with 5e at this point. I also prefer longer running campaigns largely due to story and character development.
Feel free to message me any questions as well as a response and I'll try and be prompt with my own response. Thanks!
Read the whole post and cant help but feel excited even though I haven't been given a spot yet ... lol. This campaign looks really interesting and I'd love to participate, I have no issue with a long campaign and have a pretty flexible schedule mon-tues evenings (5 PM EST and after) Weekends any time. As many I'm a fan of Critical Role so something like 60/40 or even 70/30 RP - Combat is fine with me, but the reverse is also fine. I am relatively new to DnD so far I've been apart of 1 Campaign, and while the experience of it was great it started to fell through due to some of the groups IRL situations, which is fine life does happen, but that has brought me here looking to dive back into something! Everything mentioned about the campaign seems great to me and I use discord every day so im super easy to get in contact with.
If there is any info you need or questions you have please send me a message and I'll get back to you ASAP, can also move to discord if you'd like.
I am interested in campaign based on what I read in your post. I have no problem with a long campaign and I have a somewhat flexible schedule during the week. If you have any other questions who can message me and I will get back to you in a timely manner. Thanks.
I like that you start with a description of your world it gives me some insight into your storytelling style and the broad strokes of what I could expect in the campaign. It seems interesting and I am intrigued by the idea of looking back from a current environment to a rebellion and its role in the eventual creation of this empire.
I have been playing D&D off and on for over 40 years and can honestly say that some of the characters I've played, the sessions I've been involved in have helped me explore my social, political, logical and religious opinions and beliefs - in the end helping to shape who I am today. At this point in my life I am enamored by playing a character who wants to be lawful, in a chaotic world. One that recognizes that many of the beliefs he holds are flawed and may not be appropriate and therefore need to be challenged and potentially change. Who can be disappointed in the outcomes of his behavior based on those beliefs. I'd like to play a character who has been deeply involved and committed to a given structure, code and set of beliefs and has found himself let down by those and reexamining the beginning and execution of those beliefs. The initial description of Ragsia seem to make a great sandbox for doing that.
I'm a big fan of the roll playing and thoughtful aspects of D&D - but at the same time great combat is flavored by roll play and it's fun to let loose and smash some heads! Some of my favorite campaign modules have been the Ravenloft series, Tomb of Annihilation, and home brews where you don't solve every problem with a sword or fireball - but instead find interesting approaches to problems. I'm also a big fan of flawed characters (usually informed by my stats) who have to work around obstacles of self.
I am located on the West Coast (Seattle area) and my schedule in the evenings and weekends is fairly open. If I had to state a preference it would be for an early evening on Friday, Saturday or Sunday but can work other days and times as well. I've got the standard work week hours and a family to take care of - but D&D is my primary "me time" and gets priority. Long term campaigns are great.
I hope I've piqued your interest in having me at your table as much as I'm intrigued by the possibility of sitting at yours! Thanks for considering me.
I also would be interested in this campaign. I have been looking for a long term campaign for awhile now. I like the setting and the lore that you described
Hey there!, This campaign sounds really cool and it seems like it'll be like a hoot to play.
Im decently experienced in DnD but have plenty of experience of Role-playing in other systems as well so i am by no means new!
I am free more or less Sunday to Thursday from about 6CST till 2 CST and Friday/Saturday are more up for debate depending on what my schedule looks like. Im a fan of a pretty even split of RP and Combat, but generally i make combat focused characters.
I have both Discord and Teamspeak so both work for me!
Im interested in your campaign. I'm a bit new to DND and looking to improve that. I'm able to join most weekends and at times during the week. If I can join I'm looking to play a rogue character depending if you would allow that or not. Since I'm new to the game I wouldn't argue and if I do I will do it outside of the session.
Hey, me and a buddy of mine were interested in joining your campaign if you had an open slot available! We've been playing for a little bit now, and want to know if you have slots open for two players that can bring a strong sense of RP to the table along with fun characters.

Hi there, I know this is an old post but did you have any of the subclasses from WOTBS in DnD beyond? If so, could you share the homebrew? Many thanks
LIke from the actual module?
yes, there's none on DnDbeyond other than the bard cirquelist in homebrew. I wondered if your game used any and if you played them on dnd beyond?
