I run a set of 5 homebrew campaigns with interconnected stories in the same world and live stream all the chaos to YouTube. Our games and audience are growing and the campaign is quickly evolving into something beautiful. With growth comes change. We have slots available in our campaigns and so many wonderful stories we want to tell. The difficulty comes in that we no longer want to just recruit players to play. I want to find people who want to be apart of the immersive and expansive experience we are creating, and would really get committed to telling a moving story that would either make you cheer, laugh, cry, or smile. Normally, I would post a summary of the group's storyline that I am recruiting for, then a summary of the world, and finally a summary of my DM'ing style. Instead... I'm going to post my goals. If they interest you, lets talk?
I'm refocusing the artistic aim of the campaigns. I am building a vision for the campaigns and the Ilderon Tales in general. Why I’ve chosen to post this: These campaigns have replaced the time I normally spend writing traditional stories and creating art and have become a form of art in themselves to me. They are crazy amounts of fun. But in order to justify spending 25+ hours a week on the campaigns, I want to be able to look back at the time and be proud. This means that I have to really consider who I am recruiting into the campaigns and their mindsets towards the groups. I will become a better DM to ensure the 2-5 hours each of you give me every other week is rewarding and emotionally satisfying. I'm not asking anyone to become a better player. But I am asking that you be conscious of our vision into the future. Before I post the vision. I want to post the ideas and philosophies behind them:
Be Respectful of the time other people have put aside to play in the campaigns. Be respectful of the time the dungeon master puts into the campaign. This means while in session you should make decisions conscious that you’re not the only one playing this game.
Be respectful of the slot you occupy. Dnd is a commitment. I understand if you can’t make every game but understand there are other people who would like a slot to play in the campaigns and at the end of the day it's a privilege that you were selected to occupy that seat. With that comes a commitment to the character you have chosen to play. Constantly switching characters damages a group’s ability to build a meaningful storyline and eats away a lot of the dungeon master’s time in integrating your new character into the story.
Dnd is a roleplaying game and that means you’re filling the shoes of a person who travels around the world facing threats that want to kill them. This means some situations they will be in will be hard. You might have a bad session or two bad sessions but the struggles make the game worth it moreso than any game I’ve ever played before. Stick with me as we grow, and once again, thank-you so much for the tremendous opportunity to be your dungeon master. And without further delay:
THE ILDERON TALES VISION 1 Commitment to the storyThe driving aspect of the Ilderon Tales is the story. By joining and playing, understand there is a commitment to telling a tale that is worth someone’s time and is interesting or moving to experience or listen to. 2 Playing in the campaign means you will create & experience the story.Stories inherently involve conflict. Conflict is hard and might not be fun as you’re going through it, but looking back the experience becomes more worthwhile because of the conflict. 3 We are a community.Don’t be afraid to talk or ask questions. If you have a problem with the admin or the dungeon master, speak up and voice them. Feedback only ignites improvement.
The aim of the Ilderon Tales is to create an environment where interesting fantasy tales can be created and shared with others.
I am not quite sure where I am supposed to reply to this post, so I might as well do it here.
Hello there,
My name is Malte, I'm a german D&D player who has been DMing and playing D&D for about 16 months now, although, I have been roleplaying for a lot longer than that on other mediums. I personally really love if I get to work together with the Dungeon Master if it comes to the story of my character. I also enjoy seeing other characters develop and thinking about how my character would be affected by the actions of the other members of the group. I tend to play characters that crack a lot of jokes, however they do not necessarily have to always be the funny goofball character. I really enjoy listening to the lore of homebrew creations, the more thought went into it, the more likely I am to be fascinated by it. I also try to be as respectful as i can be to what the Dungeon Master has thought up for the group, as I myself know how hard it is to create a compelling story. Please, feel free to reach out to me on D&D Beyond or Discord [@Malte #3208]
Hi! I'm super interested! I do have a few questions though. When do you normaly have sessions? Do you use discord for voice, and roll20 for gameplay?
Alright so here's some stuff about me.
My name's Melissa, and I've been playing D&D for just short of a year now. I'm currently in two campaigns, and I'm going to start dming a third next week. I love making characters and watching them grow and respond to the world around them. I enjoy working with other people (and their characters) to explore and solve challenges. And I love getting super immersed into the story of my character and the characters around them.
Feel free to dm me here or on discord @memelissa2780 #1601
I'm not really sure what else to say, so thank you for reading this and good luck on your adventures!
I’d be very interested if things were to work out. My name is Jeff and I played a lot of 2nd edition way back in college and life/work pulled me away from it for a long time. Now with 5e, I’m currently DMing two games with local friends over the last 18 months, but I’m very eager to explore a world and a character with the input of a supportive world builder. I am the father of 3 young girls, and want to build character and story not just so that I can be a better player or DM myself, but so that I can be more creative and inspire them to enjoy and tell their own stories someday. Would be happy to talk more (DM, discord, etc) if I’m a good fit or not.
My name is Grant and I've been playing D&D since starting with AD&D in 1981. I am currently DMing two PbP games on DDB (Princes of the Apocalypse - my first foray into DMing a PbP and Storm Kings Thunder - the Gods Respond (a cleric only campaign which is generating some interesting character dynamics). I really enjoy the RP aspect and find that PbP is particularly powerful in this respect as gives players time to think about how their character will respond to a given situation and develop a post accrodingly. I currently live in Manila (the Philippines) but am an Aussie by birth. This means that I am about 12 hours ahead of EST in the US and more in Seattle. If there is a opportunity to participate on PbP basis please let me know. My discord is Grant From Canberra.
I am very interested in this concept. I have been playing dnd for the about 15 years now. I see this as more of a game but a way to tell a story. There have been times where I have had some of my character's keep "Journals" of their journey in campaigns. I would love to take part in this Journey you have created and ask what I need to do in order to do so?
Been player DnD for about half a year, but the main reason I play is for story. This sounds like something I could get really invested in, although I'd like to know more before making a decision. message me here or through discord velarays #0152
From what you have posted so far i can tell that you are as passionate about ur stories as i would like to see a DM be. this makes for allot of fun and emotional stories! I love ur vision and passion and would love to join you guys if able. since i am from Europe i have no clue if it will work out with timezones. but we can always talk if you want.
Thank-you for the interest!! I super appreciate all the love and people I have been able to meet who have been applying. All my spots in the free games I run are filled. I have one spot open in a paid game on friday nights if anyone is interested. Its $10 per session or $30 for the month.
