Game: D&D 5e Group preferred: Face-to-face Experience: a few years Location/Timezone: Switzerland, area of Mellingen/Baden (Aargau) Availability: ideally fridays, other days possible; not sat/sun Preferred role: DM / Player (have been both in the past) Game style: casual, roleplay
Hi there, I'm looking for an English speaking group of players to join (or create a new group) to play D&D (suprise). A little bit about myself:
I'm 33, from Germany but now living in Switzerland (5 years). I'm married, have a son of 17 months and the second child is due in june (which doesn't mean I'm going to give up D&D again). I've been playing a lot with friends back in school but haven't really gotten around to it afterwards. My last game of D&D was, I think, 10 years ago. I've always wanted to return to the game but college, moving to Switzerland have made it difficult. But I feel like it's finally time to return to the world of D&D.
Now, why do I want to play D&D in English? I've always preferred the original English language of movies, tv shows, books (both paper and audio) over the German translation. (So much is lost if you translate something from English to German.....) Plus, with my friends we had the 3rd Edition of D&D in English and I'm accustomed to its formulations which are not too different from the current edition's. (Also, I have a knack for the English language and speak it fluently.)
I actually have a few of the source books available on this site
Player's Handbook
Dungeon Master's Guide
Monster Manual
Curse of Strahd
Lost Mine of Phandelver
Princes of the Apocalypse
Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide
Volo's Guide to Monsters
Tomb of Annihilation
Xanathar's Guide to Everything
Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes
Guildmaster's Guide to Ravnica
Lost Laboratory of Kwalish
Concerning the question if I want to be player or DM. I like both roles, so I don't really have a preference. Although I'm working on a campaign and would be interested how it plays out.
I have already read the Player's Handbook and Dungeon Master's Guide to get up to speed to the 5e ruleset and I've looked into the other source books too just to get a feel for what it's like playing a pen&paper RPG again.
So, if anyone's interested to know a bit more about me to see if I fit in your group (or to form a new group altogether), just let me know. :)
Thanks for your reply. If I get your other posts correctly, though, you seem to be based in the U.S. while I live in Switzerland. The time difference will make it impossible for me to play with you, unfortunately.
I live in israel which is pretty close time zone wise but im a beginner DM. if that doesnt bother you, im glad to have you in my One shot if youre interested. im pretty organized so it probably wont be bad.
I'm pretty new on this Website, i would play with you to learn some things :D Im from Germany 23, turn 24 on 26th this Month. I have plenty of free time an only bought the Volo's Races so far on this Site.
So if you don't mind, you can add me on Discord, or just pn me here on Beyond.
I know you posted this two years ago, but I thought I'd try in the chance that you might still be playing D&D/looking for someone to play with. I live in Langnau i.e. area and I'm new to Switzerland, so I'm looking for any English speaking groups even remotely close-by to meet in person for D&D sessions.
I've never been a DM and don't own any handbooks, but I wouldn't mind giving it a shot if it would be needed! I've had about 5 years of experience playing D&D and would be willing to commit to a full campaign.
