Hi I'm river, I'm kinda new to playing but have a group I play with and want to join a second group. My Character is a human sorcerer with draconic ancestry, her background is she's an anthropologist who wants to learn more about different cultures especially the draconic ones.
Hey! I'm Ruby, and this campaign sounds like a lot of fun! I'm newish to D&D, meaning that I've watched and listened to a lot of shows and podcasts, but never actually played myself even though I've wanted to for a while. I like writing, binging tv shows on netflix, and snuggling with my cat. I'm still in school so my schedule is a little restrictive, but hopefully it will work out. As for a character concept, I was thinking of doing something pretty easy as I get a hang of the game, a human paladin or fighter for example. I'll wait to see what the setting for the campaign is before creating a background for my character, but I was thinking of doing a character who comes from a sheltered town and wants to experience the outside world, maybe as a form of rebellion against her faith or family. Sorry for this entire essay haha, but I'm really excited to get into it and play some D&D with you!
Hello, my name is Miguel. I would love to be apart of this campaign as it sounds interesting. My availabilities are Monday and Tuesday, at any given time. Any other day it will have to be before 11pm since I work over night. And my character concept is a Verdan wizard/monk. One who learned magic from his tribes elder, and left to learn martial arts. Oh, and I am relatively new only having played about six games with a group before they disbanded.
Hi im Jacob i have about 4 years of D&D experience and I love reading up on the lore and history of D&D and other RPGs (cyberpunk/shadowrun/Pathfinder) and im a dedicated tabletop gamer with games like Warhammer and MTG. My character idea is Skoll Wolfsbane (Shifter race) a Bloodhunter/Wizard(Necromancer) who was at one point a monster hunter for higher with a small group of friends after being stabbed in the back by one of them and left for dead he now seeks revenge for the betrayal.
Hello my name is Kevin, I have played 5e for about a year and a bit now. Enjoy playing in a RP heavy group where combat is a last resort maybe. I am EST so I don't know if that will work? My character idea is a bugbear barbarian who is trying to be human as much as he can. (shaving a lot) If there is an opening I would love to join into your creation and meet new friends.
Hey, my name's Dylan. I'm a pretty relaxed, easy-going guy. When I'm playing I like to take a more offensive approach to combat, and a more relaxed approach to RP, prefering to be more of a comedic relief character (though I'm not just gonna go through the whole thing like "Hurr Durr joke"). My character is a Human Rogue, with the criminal background. He was originally a thief, but ended up turning to a life of adventure for income after seeing what his work had done to a family, leaving them on the streets.
hello there im Michael and im down and the only dependent is the time we start. I DM a solo campaign for my bro and have about 2 years experience as a player. my character is a druid/ barbarian loves to commune with nature but shifting into animals and helping them any way he can and protects the forest from any people wish to harm what he cares for, which he will even kill for. as he lives alone in the forest.
Thanks so much to everyone who's replied so far! I've seen quite a few cool ideas and I'm glad to see so much interest in an in depth RP campaign. Just to answer a few questions/address a few concerns I've seen people bring up:
The campaign will be set along the Sword Coast of Faerun. Mostly between Neverwinter in the North and Baldur's Gate in the South.
Hoard of the Dragon Queen is a pre-written, 5e campaign meant to take characters from 1st level to about 7th. I am adding homebrew elements in order to up the ante for characters starting out at 5th level and to smooth out some issues I've noticed with the narrative to make playing it more fun.
I'm allowing character races, classes and background from the player's handbook and the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide only. Though I am willing to negotiate if someone does want to play a monstrous race like a bugbear, goblin or something similar.
This is going to be a text based PBP campaign taking place in D&D Beyond's Play-By-Post forum starting on August 5th. Because of this, availability shouldn't be an issue as there isn't any specific time when the group will need be online at the same time. All I ask is that everyone posts at least once a day. This does mean that the game will progress a fair bit slower than voice based or in person ones usually do but it also allows for people from different time zones and with different schedules to play together without running into scheduling difficulties.
I'm going to be leaving this open until I get off work tomorrow just to see if there's anymore interest and then I'll close things up and start making decisions. If ya'll have anymore questions feel free to ask. :)
Hi there is a character of mine I loved to play but the previous campaign got to a dead end (now he is level 2 but I am willing to re-adapt him accordingly) and he is been built with standard array.
Im Gabe, started playing back in 4e, and switched to 5th once it started picking up popularity. I’ve played in a lot of long term F2F games as well as PBP games (though never on beyond, we’ve always used discord!), and run a few myself so know how important committed players are! HotDQ is actually one of the three book campaigns I haven’t played either!
Character Concepts :
if Artificer is allowed, I’d like to try a battlesmith out, RP as a sort of INT based Paladin. Very helpful, but powers tied to my smarts and tinkering ability instead of drawing it from an oath
otherwise I have an idea for an Eladrin celestial warlock that made his pact because he wanted to learn to be able to leave the feywild, but couldn’t find a way other than that. And now he’s just trying to becoming stronger to repay his debt and make sure he doesn’t get sent back
Alright, my character is a Hill Dwarf Life Cleric (I know I'm so original but I;m in a dedicated healer mood today). Thorberk Todgar is his name, and backstory will come in a spoiler cause i feel like it's kind of long. Will be editing in a bit but here's what I have so far.
From the time Thorberk was born, the only thing he can really remember is time in the church. And he loved it, it gave him purpose. It gave him a reason to help people. That's what his parents did, and that's what he wanted to do. The oldest of 3 children, he learned to help people from an early age. He grew up with a very strong sense to help others, no matter the cost. The priests at the temple of Lathander took notice to this and, and as he became of age he was welcome to join them.
As he grew older, something inside him was becoming restless. It felt like Lathander himself was telling him to go out into the world and help others in his name. As much as he wanted to follow this calling he felt a duty to the people in his town. He needed to stay. But as time went on he became more and more restless. He was being called out into the world, but as it called more the more he dug his heels into the dirt. Then his father died. It was coming, everyone knew that. But it still hurt him, worse than anyone else in his family. He stayed partly to help his aging father, but now that he was gone there was really nothing else holding him here.
Still he stayed, feeling like he owed it to his father to help the people he helped. Still something was calling him out into the world. Then the priests approached him. They knew he was becoming restless staying here, and that he felt conflicted about staying or going. To fulfill his final promise to his father or to follow the calling he could sense Lathander was sending him too. 'There were people' they explained. People who had done things against the church. Rouge priests, heretics, people that need to face the crimes they've committed. He could track them down and bring them back to face the trial and punishment they deserved. Thorbeck finally knew what Lathander was calling him to. So he took the responsibility with pride and went out to bring justice to those who avoid it. And help those who deserve it.
I am very interested. I am familiar with the module, having run a party through the beginning. But I don't meta game and won't have my characters know things they shouldn't know. As for character concept I'd like to run an elven bard who left his city due to a scandal with a nobleman's daughter and now travels looking for love and adventure
Alright everybody, I've looked over everyone's bids and have made my decisions and sent PMs to those who'll be playing. Thanks so much to everyone who replied, I'd run a campaign with everyone if I thought it wouldn't be waaaay too much for me to handle. Thanks again!

Benagol is a human (variant) fighter , a wild rover and a rascal, even if not utterly evil. (that's why he has stealth skill)
