West Marches Discord Group - Looking for New Members

We’re a 5e based discord focused on roleplay and general d&d fun!

We’re looking for more experienced players that know how to make a character sheet with little help and know how to play encounters. We’re also looking for people who would like to run quests for the server.

We are an English oriented campaign and generally have users from the east coast or with time zones around that time. It’s possible that we will get into more adult themes, so it would be preferred if one reached the maturity range of 18 or older.

OUR RULES

1) BE KIND- we want everyone to feel happy and safe in our playing environment. Even if our in-game characters are at odds or dislike each other, we want everyone to be friendly and enjoy each other's company! And also, no slurs please! And please, please check people's pronoun roles as to not misgender them!

2)MAGIC ITEMS- in order to not break our server's economy, we won't sell magic items we might find on quests. Instead, items bought or received specially as rewards will have licenses and certifications, rendering them capable of being sold within the city legally. Of course, you could try  to sell things illicitly, but you'd have to dm our Rulemistress to initiate getting into contact with the Blood of the Trinket, which is a highly risky and illegal move.

3) CHARACTER LEVELS- we start our characters at level 4 so we aren't little squishies right at the start. We can have multiple characters, getting our 2nd at lvl 8 and our 3rd at 13. Stats are rolled in #stat-rolls , typing the command !randchar and then !r 4d6kh3, removing the lowest from the list.

4) RESTS- When you take a short rest, your character cannot adventure for an hour. A long rest is eight hours.

5) PvP- Player vs Player combat can only be initiated if both (or all) players agree and consent to such combat.

6) NAMES- When you're playing a character, you need to set your server nickname as their name, level, class, and race.

7) RP EXP- If a certain interaction is absolutely stellar out of combat, EXP can be awarded to certain players. A good way to do this is to RP your character in a way that definitively fits your character, delve into backstory, or get closer/push away other adventurers you interact with. The EXP will be decided by admins, typically between 50xp and 300xp, but at higher levels and for certain instances, the xp could be higher.

8) CHARACTERS- Before you start playing, please work with the Rulemistress to make sure your character fits in with the rules/setting, and to incorporate them into the nations, factions, and minutiae she has locked away in that maniac brain of hers!

ALSO: With few exceptions, we're strongly against evil/psychotic characters, with few exceptions to be made if a solid case is presented to me for it.

9) CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS- When putting a description of your character in the #character-descriptions chat, make sure that it's a solely physical description of them. Any bits of backstory, explanation of the features, and anything of that sort will be learned through the gameplay itself and ~quality~ RP!

10) LEVELS (cont.)- when you level up, you CANNOT carry over xp that goes past the threshold. If you need 20xp to level up and you get 10000, you can ONLY take the 20xp.

Interested player here. I am not familiar with games played through discord. Do you use voicechat in discord or text? Also, are there multiple groups and do they have times they all log on to play?

Hello! West Marches/Living Campaigns generally don't have set times they meet. The characters can do whatever they please in the town (we have multiple servers for all the areas of the town itself, but most adventurers live in and talk in the Lazing Lyre Inn.) Quests can be run by any person who would like to DM, and anyone can join those quests anytime. So if you have a sporadic schedule, you don't really have to make it to any session. We generally use text for roleplay and combat. We do have a bot that allows us to roll on discord and have all our stats connected to a system. If everyone is available to voice chat, they can run their quest through vc instead! Generally, time will pass as it does in real life. (if you start roleplaying in the morning, perhaps your character has just woken up or come back from breakfast in town.) If you have any more questions feel free to ask me!

Hi I have some experience with roleplay, and  bit of experience with d&D, this sounds like it would be fun to do. I’m by no means an expert with character sheets, and D&D but I do understand how rolls work, and some mechanics. Very interested.

I have experience roleplaying (first game being NWN 2) and have limited experience with DnD but I am farmiliar with the mechanics and am currently involved in 2 separate DnD campaigns.

I have multiple character concepts and only so many campaigns available, so I'd love to have room to play out other characters.
