Game: D&D 5e Group preferred: Online (Can use Discord) Experience: New Location/Timezone: New Jersey/Est Availability: Weekends Preferred role: Player Game style:????
Hi I am new to playing dnd and would like to know if anyone can help me with everything (create character, understand rules, playing in a campaign). I have a little bit of knowledge already from listening to some podcasts but that is all I know.
Hi there. Can't get you into a game as I am brand new to 5e and online D&D myself, but with a few years of playing previous versions in a home game and exploring this site I offer the following advice:
1) Check out some YouTube videos of people playing 5e D&D to get an idea of game-play beyond podcasts (I listen to a some also).
a. I recommend a video of high school students playing with an adult DM (link follows). Not all games are like this with the table top map, but the player creation part and the DMs explanation of how things work is more helpful to learn D&D from scratch than a few podcasts I have listened to so far: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52NJTUDokyk
2) Once you have an idea from the video on initial setup and general rules, try the free character creator on this site with the guidance it offers (you can make up to 6 chars for free).
This might help get you a little closer to being ready for actual play in the event it takes a little while to find a game. Good luck! :)
