I was an experienced DM way back in the last millennium who has recently become interested in starting a Fifth Edition campaign. I've been fussing around drawing, painting minis, writing content but not locking anything down. I figure, if I put up a post, I might feel pushed to actually get this thing off the ground.
I'm looking for sharp, genre savy players interested in a fish out of water campaign. People who come at D&D from their love of fantasy fiction and have read extensively in the genre.
People who want their magic to be, well, magical.
Fans of Jack Vance's Lyonese trilogy or Lois McMasters Bujold's Chalion books especially welcome.
Mechanically, I figure on meeting once a week in my home for face to face play with downtime handled by electronic devices during the week. The first episode is pretty much written and will be on rails. It's more of a practice session for me to gauge how the combat goes and may be pretty much a cakewalk for the players. After that I hope to go as sandbox as possible. Players would start at first level and progress at a reasonable rate but not necessarily together as a group. I'm thinking PG-13 with some mature themes but handled discreetly. Guaranteed at least some combat every week but also lots of character fun along the way--including a little "who's the father" soap opera subplot at my home base inn.
Philosophically, I don't think of lower level play as being a stepping stone to bigger and better things later on. I want to this to be so much fun that leveling up is just another thing that happens. If that's what you yearn for, give me a yell.
