Hey im new to the community but i hope i can be accepted in lol :) never played before but it seems kinda complicated and i have no idea how it even works like... do i just make up the game with my imagination? Cause i feel like that would be pretty unfair and too op. but i created my account yesterday and have done a little research, but somehow im still confused. ive also seen different kinds of rules on how to play so idk which one is best. but yeah if anyone wants to play with me i would love to, and also some help too :)
Hi there. While I can't get you into a game, as I am relatively new to 5e and online D&D myself, I do have a few years of playing previous versions in a home game and after exploring this site I offer the following advice:
1) Check out some YouTube videos of people playing 5e D&D to get an idea of game-play, beyond listening to available D&D 5e podcasts.
b. Not all games are like this with the table top map, but the player creation part and the DMs explanation of how things work is more helpful to learn D&D from scratch than a few podcasts I have listened to so far.
2) Once you have an idea from the video on initial setup and general rules, try the free character creator on this site with the guidance it offers (you can make up to 6 chars for free).
This might help get you a little closer to being ready for actual play in the event it takes a little while to find a game. Good luck! :)

a. I recommend a video of high school students playing with an adult DM (link follows): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52NJTUDokyk
