I'm preparing to run a text-based game over Facebook Messenger, set in my own world of Naeshelion, a gritty, low-magic world. I have one player so far and need three more. Below is a pasted copy of the post I shared on Facebook.
Hello everyone.
I'm looking for four players to play in a text-based game over Facebook messenger. The game is set in Naeshelion, a world of my own design. It's a gritty, low-magic setting, where spellcasters (especially clerics and wizards) rule over city-states (like Waterdeep or Neverwinter) and vast expanses of wilderness have yet to be explored.
PCs will need to be created in my campaign group on D&D Beyond, and will begin as members of an Adventurer's guild (like the Pathfinder Society). Ability score generation method is standard array, and advancement is XP-based. Variant encumbrance rules will be used, and coin weight will not be ignored.
I live in Texas, and am up at about 4:30 every morning and in bed around 10 or 11. I plan to continuously run the game throughout the day (I'm currently doing the same with a text-based Curse of Strahd campaign that is going well).
Those who are interested, please leave a comment and include a character idea plus your amount of experience with 5e.
Thank you for your interest, and I look forward to playing with you.
EDIT: Below are some of my houserules. There are more that slip my mind, but these are listed.
CAMPAIGN HOUSERULES
Drinking a potion is considered a bonus action instead of an action, but administering a potion to someone else does require an action.
Sorcerers do not need material components for their spells, as long as those material components do not have a listed gold value.
Any character can attempt to use a spell scroll. If a spell scroll contains a spell that is not on your class' spell list, or if your class does not have a spell list, you must succeed on an Intelligence (Arcana) check (DC = 10 + spell level) to identify the scroll, unless you are already aware of the scroll's spell. To cast the spell contained within the scroll, you must succeed on an additional Intelligence (Arcana) check with the same DC, made at disadvantage.
In order to Help a character with a skill check, the character who is using the Help action must be proficient in that skill check.
When casting two or more spells in the same turn, only one may be above 2nd level. This replaces the RAW ruling that only one spell may be above 0-level. In other words, a cleric may cast a 1st level healing word as a bonus action to bring an ally back to consciousness, followed by a 2nd level guiding bolt to damage an enemy. By RAW, the cleric would only be able to cast a cantrip after healing his ally, so his action would be limited to a sacred flame or something similar.
Two-Weapon Fighting, by RAW, requires a Light weapon in both hands. I rule that your main hand weapon need not be Light, so long as it is a one-handed weapon. Your offhand weapon, however, must be Light unless you have taken the dual-wielder feat.
Some magic items requiring attunement, whether due to their power, sentience or some other reason, may have certain conditions that must be met in order to be attuned to. For example, a ring of protection may gain sentience and desire its wearer to display protective qualities to another before it grants its own protective qualities to its wearer.
A failed medicine check while attempting to stabilize a dying creature results in a failed death saving throw.
By RAW, fall damage is 1d6 bludgeoning for every ten feet you fall, maxed out at 20d6 for 200 feet. The cap is meant to represent terminal velocity, and while this does have some weight in physics, it allows for unbelievable feats of survival. The maximum damage from 20d6 is 120. Most high-level characters and monsters will have too many hit points to be killed by a 1,000-foot fall, by RAW. I therefore disregard the fall damage cap.
Stabilizing a dying creature via the use of a healer's kit, the spare the dying cantrip, a Wisdom (Medicine) check, or other means shall restore 1 hit point to the creature.
While dying, each failed death saving throw shall increase the DC for another creature's Wisdom (Medicine) check to stabilize by 1.
When making an attack roll, a natural 1 leaves you open for a counterattack your target can make using its reaction.
I would love to join, I typically play paladin and will continue to do so lol. if there is still room please let me know. I've been playing for about 3 years (though normally i'm a dm) but i really wan to be a player.
I'd be into it. I've been playing for four years now, mostly DMing, so it'd be nice to be a player again too. I'm thinking of rolling a ranger, but can you give any more information about the setting? Is the unexplored terrain wilderness, deserts, mountains? How big are the cities and what sort of trade is conducted there?
I'm tempted by the UA Swarmkeeper they've got on the page here on D&DBeyond, but I'd be able to do more too knowing the type of environments around.

Drinking too many potions can have unintended consequences, as per the following link: https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/640-epic-house-rules-potion-toxicity-and-quick
