She is paying tribute to a dragon. To change this fate of your country you make the king kill the Kobold it sends to collect the tax... My lord is Elandria's representative of the Elf's. Having been raised to emperor by his Elven brethren he spent his younger years raised by Elven monks serving (your god of warfare) learning and honing his skills in the monastery. Until one fateful night where the monastery was destroyed by a hateful band of Ork's that burnt it down so nothing was left but ashes. Everyone he knew had died. Only surviving himself as he was on a pilgrimage to a local holy lake. After this he swore vengeance upon all Orks and joined the Elven military quickly rising in rank due to his combat experince amoungst the monks. Eventually reaching the rank of general where he gained much glory and renown amongst his people that they staged a coup d'etat making him emperor of the Elven colonies in Elandria. This high station and race gives him great influence with the king of whom he has an understanding with that the elfs and men should exist together in peace. His monk teaching show that fighting should always be a last resort so he strives for peace at all costs except for dealings with Orks all of whom should be executed for their slight against his people.
For the character concept, It's a Paladin or Purple Dragon Knight chosen by a God of Chaos to wear a ring of pure destruction, after failing his Kingdom and losing the person he loved most due to his own mistake. Following him is a small floating creature who's bonded to the ring. He only uses the ring when necessary, but even then he has to share his mind, body and spirit with the creature which makes him act like a different person. Still working on it, hope ya liked it though.

Hello! I'm interested as well! I've come up with something real quick that I like, I like to format backstories in a story/novel-like format, so bear with me.
Matthias knows his parents aren't his real parents, but he's come to accept it. Matthias grew up in the Family of Thorliefson, a wealthy, royal family in a neighboring kingdom (or far away, whatever works) called Olveilas Shores. Matthias had a good education growing up, but no matter what he always felt disconnected from the family, because every full moon his family would lock themselves away in the dungeons of their manor, unable to control themselves as they turned into Werewolves. Matthias was angry that his parents would never admit that he wasn't her son, because it is obvious as he didn't turn like he did. The continued to say that he was their true son. As soon as he could, Matthias started to teach himself magic in Elandria. He soon met a woman while studying there, and she happened to be a Duke of Elandria. She was soon entranced by him, and him to her, and with her proper introductions Matthias learned to love Elandria like he always lived there.
Matthias didn't tell her about the true nature of his family, he didn't want her to know and he was sworn to secrecy by his family so that no one may know. He didn't tell her until a few months before their wedding day, when he was drunk with happiness of being with her. Strangely, she accepted it and didn't treat Matthias any differently. Because of this, Matthias started to stop blaming his family as much, but he wasn't going to tell them until past his wedding. His wedding came, and in the dance after they were married something happened that Matthias still can't explain. In an instant, the Thorliefson family manor was filled with a red fog before quickly receding. Everyone captured in the fog dissipated with it, except for Matthias. Standing in the before him, in the center of the ball room, was an old, female, red-scaled Dragonborn he'd never seen before. She said to beware the night of the twin full moons, and turned into red dust. Matthias stood alone in that manor then and there on.
Matthias came to blame his family for what had happened, their true nature must've somehow been revealed, and this is what it cost him. After weeks of self torment and loneliness in the manor, he recieved a letter telling him of his newfound duties. By marrying a duke of Elandria he was to resume the duties she had. So, he picked up his gear and headed to Elandria, leaving Olveilas Shores in the dust, denying ever stepping foot in that place. Elandria is his home now, and he knows something is coming.
This is isn't the best thing I've done at all, and really just something I came up for you as an example. I'm a roleplay-heavy type of player, so I think that's why being a Duke would be fun experience for me! If I were to join I would make a more fledged-out backstory that is actually good. Not much is known about Ragmar's past. He does not speak of his past, and nobody is foolish enough to press him for it. Historians and archivist have tried throughout the years since his sudden rise to power to find any child who might match his description, but with so little known about him, including whether his name is his birth name, it's like searching for a single grain of sand on the beach that doesn't stand out in any way. So to talk about him, we must start where the records do start to describe the person we know today as Lord Ragmar
Lord Ragmar first appeared 6 years ago, when he signed up for the military to fight in a recent vicious set of border skirmishes. He signed up as a simple soldier, but quickly showed his true skill and battle prowess, summoning incredible might within himself and incredible forces at his side. He was not nearly as powerful then as he is now, and it is unknown just how much of an effect he had in the battles then, but he certainly played a greater part than the average soldier. He continued to rise through the ranks over the next few years, seeing many different fighting environments, growing skill and power in his leadership, fighting skill, and supernatural power. Then, when a massive rebellion shook one of the fiefs, he saw his opportunity. Still not quite at the top, he disobeyed orders and use vicious and well planned guerilla tactics to take strategic places and send false messages through communications. Between these key tactics, he shattered the rebellion's sense of unity, and swiftly picked off each piece one by one. His sills an tactics were horrifying to some, but to others it seemed to be a weapon of sorts, that as long as it was pointed the right way could prove vital in the future. He continued to rise swiftly through the ranks, and due to good relations with many of the top commanders and the baron, through various different interpretations of "good relations", when one of the barons passed away in an unexpected accident, Ragmar was given the position. He does not rule by fear or power, though they definitely play into his continued leadership. He works overall for the good of his people, but the is no doubt that he is a ruthless leader, and a very cutthroat and somewhat coldhearted individual and definitely not someone to get on the wrong side of.
I really like the idea of this campaign, and I'd like to join in, so I whipped up a bit of backstory. Considering what his backstory is like, I figured that having it be in this ind of style made sense. So far this session I have hit my teammates twice, flat-out missed 3 times, and only hit the enemy twice. Trust me, you don't want to borrow my dice.
I recently went on down a rabbit hole and was looking up a bunch of homebrew classes. The one I had in mind is Dragon Rider esc kind of thing, Which I think pairs well with this whole story as a concept. As my character, Edran Dawnrunner, With his dragon partner, Hyperion, are striving to find peace between dragons and other cultures/societies. Some back story he had found Hyperion when he was very young in a cave deep in the local mountains when he was younger and has been with him ever since. Having to learn how to become independent for the most part as his home town refused to have anything to do with his dragon, he had been traveling the world ever since. I believe it might bring about an interesting dynamic to having a dragon as an ally and another dragon as an enemy. Story: My people are Triton and we are not from this plane. Where we reside the great Water Plane consumes all in righteous and ravenous sea. We're raised as fighters and mages, to combat the evils that swim in our realm. You know them well unfortunately. Kraken, Sahugin, Kappa, the lot. They escaped our realm into the Material Plane centuries ago and we have learned over the years to track and follow them, hoping to aid the Material Realm of their evil.
Since then our people breed two kinds of warriors, those that stay and those that will travel to the material Realm as an envoy and ambassadors of our people in order to unite those willing to fight against ungodly terror. I was born into neither.
I was a but a kelp-earred whelp. My determination and prowess were unmatched however it mattered very little when I battled to keep up with the others during training. But I always felt a call...felt something was there for me I hadn't yet found. I tried to compensate for my lack of prowess with knowledge, learning of the enemy. I read books, scrolls, tomes you name it to obtain knowledge of the enemy only to find that my people think to polar of them. They're power is of our plane. It is not something to destroy, but control...
I told no one of these thoughts, but the voice in my head that hinted of my talents. Then...it came.
The voice told me it was Ancient. And that it could help. It was like me, of another people but wanting to unite for strength against the Chaotic Evils. I merely need sew my goals to it's power and with him as my Patron I could make a difference. So I did. My eyes burned a bright white, sending down a force of lightning through my body into my hands, forming a lightning bolt between them. Although a great storm erupted from me, tearing into the scenery around me I could still hear the voice. He told me to mold it. To keep myself true to our goal I molded into the symbol of my people, a marvelous Trident. The storm followed me as I charged into the front to aid my people against our enemy, securing the victory.
I asked to join the envoy after that and travel to the Material Realm, knowing that I could make something of myself there and that when I did I could change things. learn from them and teach them, become a Noble man that allowed society to prosper through their courage and confidence. My work will never stop until this is done.

Hey, I don't think you can ride a dragon when there is a fierce dragon tyrant that collects taxes from your kingdom as gold, livestock, and people. Also, you'll be a duke that rosed power recently or from your family. So think yourself more like a noble or battle lord, your call of course. My character is a gnomish young man, full of childlike wonder and curiosity, his name is Trinket. Name: Trinket Twinefoot Race: Forest Gnome Class: Rogue (Arcane Trickster)
Trinket is the eldest son of the Twinefoot family, a large gnomish family of nobles that are known for being Elandria's representatives for gnomes and owning the largest manufacturing company of the land. The Twinefoot family specialized in manufacturing machinery, warforge, magical items, magical weaponry, and nearly every item is made from this gnomish factory. Trinket is a curious gnome that lacks any sort of responsibility as his parents often coddled him and suffocated him with affection. He was to inherit the family business and become the head of the family once Trinket reaches of age. However, Trinket proves to lack any care for nobility, nor does he care for the family business. During his childhood, Trinket would sneak away from his private lessons, from his large manor to visit the slums and play with the other children. This continued once he reached adolescence and the family, he would shrug off his duties as a noble and the new head of the family. Trinket's parents found the young gnome in a thieve's guild, gambling and fighting. His parents did not enjoy the fact that their eldest son was gambling and playing in the slums, and found it best to move the duties to Trinket's eldest son, Locket Twinefoot. Trinket was under house arrest and constant watch by gnomish family guards, he was tasked to act as Elandria's representative and must do his job well to be able to earn back his freedom and trust from his parents. (Story can be changed to fit the setting better!)
The Twinefoot family consists of the eldest son, Trinket, the second eldest son, Locket, the third eldest son, Bauble, the fourth eldest daughter, Ornament, the fifth eldest son Gadget, the sixth eldest daughter, Gizmo, and twin son and daughter, Bead and Button. Their father is Pickpocket Twinefoot, and the previous gnomish duke of Elandria, and their mother is Jewel Twinefoot, a woman who owns a large mining company in Elandria.
