I'm new to D&D, but would really like to get into it. Problem is my workload won't allow me to set aside a consistent weekly session that could run for hours. I noticed that people used to do text based games by chat or email.
Would it be possible to set up a game where people check in once a day to contribute as a minimum; then if you all happen to be on at the same time, you could all keep playing until someone has to leave.
I know it's not ideal, but is this something that could work?
Have you checked the Play by Post area of these forums? I think that's close to what you're looking for. Nowadays, Play by Post is more common than Play by Email. Most games are okay with you just posting once a day. As long as you don't miss too many days (a couple times a week is usually alright) and let people know if you're going to be gone for a long time, it's all good.
Edit: Way back in the day, when Wizards of the Coast still had forums, the DM played my Goblin Rogue for me when I had to go away for literally months, but I cleared that ahead of time and communicated. It's only when you vanish suddenly, don't post and don't tell anyone anything and don't warn people that it's usually an issue.
