Hey! I've had some good luck finding groups here, so hopefully this (potentially unusual) ad will get lucky for us!
First and foremost: I am representing three players already assembled who are looking for a DM or existing group to join. All three of us have been friends for quite some time and have good experience roleplaying together, and I can confidently say we have that existing synergy together as players. Two of us already have existing and well fleshed-out characters with very deeply-crafted backstories and plentiful plothooks to offer; the third has only recently joined this endeavor but is very flexible and willing to make whatever kind of character will best fit in. I think we make a very happy, friendly, and positive bunch! If joining an existing group, we'd do best in an LGBTQIA+ friendly space playing with adults--preferably around our own 25-35 age range, but that's more of a loose preference. I'll include more in-depth details below!
If a DM without an existing group is interested in taking us on but would prefer a party larger than 3, I should be able to add other players to the mix, too! Again, all would be people I can thoroughly vouch for, and I can discuss that more if that need arises.
Game: D&D 5e Group preferred: Online; Discord + DnDBeyond (for maps, we are all also familiar with using Roll20/Fantasy Grounds, and willing to learn others if necessary) Experience: All players are veterans with roleplay, but some are less experienced with D&D specifically Location/Timezone: MST (Arizona), PST (Washington), and CST (Oklahoma) Availability:Wednesdays, 7p - 1a CST (weekly sessions--4 hours long, maybe more?--preferred, if possible!) Preferred role: Players Game style: We're all writers at heart, and we thrive with a narrative-rich, story-driven focus on roleplay. Combat/mechanics are great, too, but we do best when there's thriving roleplay at its center. We need a DM who embraces artistic liberty and a mentality of "if it makes you happy and doesn't negatively impact or imbalance anything, why not?" as we have a couple characters we want to play who have less traditional interpretations of the biology of some races--and we like having the ability to play with cosmetic changes in magic and the like. We're artsy nerds, is really what it comes down to. All of us respect when the line is drawn for the sake of balance or fairness, but we have a lot of fun with aesthetics, "flavor", etc. In short: we're here to be creative and to make exciting stories we can get invested in, not just to do dungeon crawls and min-max stats and do math. An interest in homebrewing is super important to us!! We love the shit out of homebrew. We'd prefer either a completely home-made medieval-fantasy setting (I have one that can be built off of to expedite that process if necessary), or a willingness to adapt parts of canon D&D settings to our needs should we be using those. Again, we're here to make fun stories we can be super invested in, not to end up restricted by what is or is not in a book.
Onward to group details and other important things!
Players in our Trio:
Daarka (me) She/Her - mid-twenties Playing a female Fallen Aasimar Death Cleric (Lawful Neutral/Good?) - Existing sheet for a game she's currently in here. Relatively new to D&D, but been roleplaying for something like 15 years; all through written posts, with some TTRPG experience in the last ~4ish years. Played in a variety of systems (including Call of Cthulhu, Savage Worlds, GURPS, and a homebrew based off a system I don't know the name of :D) but extremely minimal experience with D&D itself. But I've watched, like, a ton of Critical Role so I'm basically an expert.
Dakota He/Him - mid-thirties Playing a male Feral Tiefling Order of the Lycan Blood Hunter (True Neutral, maybe with a toe into Neutral Evil) Some D&D experience, but also over probably 20 years of roleplay experience in various formats, including TTRPG, written posts, and LARP.
Jules They/Them - early-thirties Character undecided; willing to fill whatever roles are needed More D&D experience than us other two, I believe, with similarly hefty experience in other varieties of roleplay formats over the years.
Our Preferences:
We ideally would prefer to game with people around or above our age range, but that's a loose preference. While none of us are at all interested in bringing explicit adult themes into a game, we would still prefer to not join a group containing minors.
We all have a distinct, healthy separation of in-character versus out-of-character, and we require any group we join to share this. If one character loves another, it should never imply that the corresponding player has feelings for the other player. If characters get into a fight, it should never be a reflection (or cause) of the players themselves having negative feelings towards one another. Likewise, characters should be played based on how they would organically act, not as a means of passive-aggressively conveying signals between players themselves. This is 100% a hard limit for us, and we cannot be in a game that does not wholeheartedly share this mindset.
We're not here to murder-hobo, and we're not interested in playing in those kind of games.
Every single one of us belongs to some facet of the LGBTQIA+ spectrum. We're a very understanding and lighthearted bunch, but I'm not going to bring my friends into a group that will not respect their identities.
Players who have a decent grasp of mic etiquette are also super important to us. Push-to-talk is heavily preferred to reduce distracting or abrasive background noise. As long as you/your players have an understanding of the merits of muting yourself when someone IRL approaches you to talk, going to push-to-talk if your mic picks up things like keyboard clicking, using headphones if your mic is prone to picking up an echo from others speaking, and just... yknow... maybe not trying to play dungeons and dragons from your phone while you're actively in a grocery store or literally at work washing dishes next to your mic... then there's no problem. You'd hope these things would be common sense, but here I am feeling obligated to include this point.
On the note of etiquette, I'd prefer to avoid backseat-DMs, as well as people prone to constantly talking over one another.
Encumbrance sucks. We'll do it if we have to but please no :[
Morbid content is fine by us! We're well-practiced in roleplaying extremely dark subjects while maintaining open and healthy communication OOC to make sure no one is ever actually uncomfortable or made anxious by the scene. We can establish our hard limits up front for both OOC and IC content, we would expect other players to do the same, and we are all reliable for communicating appropriately should something come up that causes concern.
We would do best with a DM who's comfortable and glad to answer some slightly newbie-ish questions, as a couple of us aren't perfectly familiar with this game system.
The two already-made characters were created in a setting where real-life mythos gods were used in place of the deities WotC created. It would be an absolute cherry on top to be able to keep this intact, but if necessary, a bit of adjustments should make it doable to transition to D&D's gods.
We have a dice hoarder in training, a proper dice hoarder, and someone who literally makes art dice for a living in our ranks; if possible, we would love for rolls to be handled with IRL dice, and hope that the people we're playing with are mature enough to go off the honor system on that without issues.
If you're interested:
Post here letting me know! Tell me about yourself, your group/game (if you have one already), your experience as a DM, your preferred play style, all that good stuff. Please keep in mind that Wednesdays are going to be the easiest day for us to all get together weekly, but Tuesdays might also be doable. Fridays are less doable, but they're the only other option that isn't completely ruled out. 7p - 1a CST is the available time window for any viable day.
If you sound like someone who might work out with us, I'll shoot you a DM here with my Discord handle so we can chat!
I would like to come into the community we're joining--or introduce myself to the DM if there are not other players--by myself initially. This is something I'm doing with the other two's blessing to make sure that the DM/group in question would be a good fit for us--but also that we'll be a good fit for you--before anyone gets too involved. I don't want to waste anyone's time!
Thanks so much for reading! I know this is a bit of a heftier post, probably, but we really want to find a group we fit in with great, so I felt like a lot of this needed to be put out there!
Have a good one, and stay safe out there in this crazy world!
Edit: To clarify (apologies if I did not do so originally), we are searching for either a DM, or an existing group containing a DM. We are not searching for additional players at this time; the extra players I offered to bring in if necessary are my own contacts. Thanks!
Hi, you guys certainly sound like an interesting bunch!
I am kind of a new DM, in my early 30s, but I do my prep work to try to get all the things nicely in place (and prepare for any detraction from the main quest line because that's what I like about DnD personally). I love how you guys don't do min/maxing and focus on roleplaying the roles which I think would be very fun to play with.
Currently I have 2 running campaigns (but the f2f one kinda died down as we met only once a month prev and not anymore after covid). For my other campaign we are running one of the Wildemount campaigns (Because right after I got the book I was excited to play xD) But I have to clarify I may not be following the same NPC settings as CR (mostly because I am not caught up in C2 yet). As mentioned, I like to DM a very free world where players can do whatever they want (basically, not railroading), so I like to set up everyone's story arc well and see how I can tie in relationships with the storyline (as well as possible future encounters). I mostly follow the rules given in the books (mostly for balance) but homebrew anything I feel would help with making it more fun or more convenient for the game.
My timezone is GMT+8 but your timing of 7pm-1am CST works for me on both Tuesdays and Wednesdays and would prefer to play one of the Wildemount campaigns (they are LGBTQIA+ friendly, with various NPCs as non binary or gay couples etc)
Both my groups were (mostly) completely new players to DnD, so I have no issues with questions right down to the bare basics.
I do prefer you guys to start from level 1, but I will leave some room for discussion if you guys insist.
Either way, hope you guys have fun in this wonderful DnD world!
Hello, i am a new PC to dnd, and i had lately played with my friends on idk whether it was a custom campaign or not, but all i know for certain is that we played with a different lvl up system, instead of leveling up classes one by one, all the classes we had would level up all at once, so im a level 3 fighter/barbarian/ranger, but we havent really been playing dnd for quite a while, so im hoping i could play then with my character since i dont really want to have to make a new character because of how much time it took me to make this one, it took like almost one day to make mine so hopefully the way my character was leveled up doesnt ruin anything. I guess my friends wanted me to get a addicted to dnd. Also im using an actual character sheet, not the one from the website.
