In the remote valley of Hawksdale, swathed in deep forest and bounded by ancient mountains, a small group of would-be adventurers, driven by visions of imminent disaster, set out into the greater world beyond...
...and we'll pretty much make it up from there as we go along.
There's a campaign variant described in the Dungeon Master's Guide in which there is no permanent DM. Every player starts with a "token" which lets them hijack the DM's position at any time -- potentially even in the middle of combat, or (even better!) in the middle of the vital expository conversation with the party's ultimate rival. The new DM does not have access to any of the previous DM's notes or plans. I'd like to put together a group of 4-6 unrepentant literature and theater nerds who think the problem with this idea is that it just doesn't go far enough, and needs to be turned up to eleven.
Fabulously purple prose and tactical application of bathos will be obligatory. The players won't be able to take it too seriously, but for the player characters it's genuinely a matter of life and death. Most of all, we'll need players who are committed to teamwork, especially when playing characters who don't share that commitment. We'll be using D&D rules (at least to start; who knows where it might end up) for an extended game of "Yes, and..." -- and there will be no retcons. There are no mistakes, only opportunities for heightened absurdity.
I would prefer a weekly game (or biweekly if we're able to schedule longer sessions) on weekends; I'm available from 5:00 pm Friday to 5:00 pm Sunday California time (UTC-7 during summer). It would be best to keep open the option of running the campaign long-term if it works well. Organizing the campaign to be free, loose, and improvisational will, counter-intuitively, probably require more planning and setup than just putting together a few characters, so the first few weeks will probably just be devoted to agreeing on a structural outline.
I'd also like to discuss the possibility of making the campaign a stream and/or podcast -- not (mostly) because I have any desire to be Internet Famous, but because it opens up opportunities for audience participation and other ways to make the whole thing even more off-the-rails. I don't have any experience setting up streams/videos/etc (and would appreciate working with a player/DM who does have that experience), but can develop custom web apps to help coordinate details (setting up and saving in-universe surprises to be revealed later, arranging in-character journals, etc.).
If you've read this far, might want to try something a little bit in the direction of "extra AF", and would find it perfectly reasonable to accept public proposals for changes to an ongoing campaign as long as those proposals are in either limerick or triolet form, send me a message. LGBTQ+-inclusive, pro-feminist and anti-racist only.
Hey, this sounds awesome! I would love to discuss joining! I'm a 19 year old girl in the EST time zone, but the time difference isn't an issue for me. I'm studying illustration, so I could also do character art for the campaign. I have been looking for a LGBT-friendly and pro-feminist campaign for a while, so I'm excited about this! Feel free to contact me on discord (Acheaa#8767) :D
hey im real interested in this! im a NB player in EST time zone, but my schedule is really flexible. I'm great with working with others and helping with storylines if needed :)
